Tried everything I can think of

Skyrim keeps closing and not reading SKSE, among other things. I've never made a mod, and am not terribly experienced with modding, so I assume I missed something. I do have both Nexus Mod Manager and ModOrganizer, and I went through the folder to make sure they agreed on which mods were present after trying to update all required mods (though I may have missed some). I'm attaching snips of FNIS, LOOT, MO, and NMM version of things. If I need to make snips of my files, please tell me and I will provide them ASAP.

If anyone can help, or I need to provide more/different information, or even this needs to be moved to a different forum, that would be greatly appreciated.

At a glance:

The way you're using NMM and MO together is a waste of MO -- it really isn't doing anything for you since NMM is acting as your installer.

When LOOT says there are things that need doing, do them.

Are you starting the game through MO's Skyrim launcher, or SKSE?  You should have MO launching SKSE (assuming there is a purpose for MO existing, which right now looks suspect).

I agree with most of that except I wouldn't bother with the LOOT warnings. Errors yes; warnings no.

You really need to do some homework on what modding Skyrim is about. You shouldn't be using NMM and Mo and you don't appear to be using NMM correctly.

There are several good video tutorials on the various tools you need to use, e.g. NMM or MO, LOOT, etc. If I was you I would go for either Vortex which is NMM's successor or MO.

Give this a read, it will help you get a stable base game before you load it down with mods.

@Seijin8 It's less that I meant to use them together and more that I used MO several months ago, forgot it existed as my focus turned elsewhere, and when I downloaded NMM I linked it to those games it could find. I can try to get NMM to forget Skyrim exists though...Ok. Got NMM to forget Skyrim. I only got it when I was doing Dragon Age mods, so I can keep it for Bioware.

As far as launching attempts there have been: desktop Skyrim, desktop SKSE (created using the method linked on the SKSE website with the Scottish(?) accented guy), MO Skyrim, MO SKSE, NMM Skyrim. Some will only start the drums+fog before closing, others as soon as I've 'created' the character. I can screenshot those issues and include them if you like.

@Grey Cloud I can look for tutorials...this week, I think. Also, do you know if there's any way to port what I already have in NMM to Vortex so I'm not starting from scratch on the modding? If I do it too long at once any information turns into a blank gray mash, so I'd like to know ahead of time if it's going to take several sessions to get right.

@ANGRYWOLVERINE and @Grey Cloud Thank you SO MUCH for giving an explicit starting place. I have been trying to learn where I can and understand the underlying functions, but most of what I see either assumes you know nothing and so doesn't really explain or assumes you're familiar with designing mods and - still - doesn't really explain. I'm sure it would make more sense if I were employed in a computer science field and so constantly practicing, but as games are the hobby they can take a back burner for months at a time. I really appreciate the consideration in your forthrightness.

You would probably be better off starting from scratch.

1. Decide which mod manager you are going to go with and watch and read tutorials on how to set it up.

2. Watch and read tutorials on how to set up a stable base game.

3. A mods a bunch at a time, making sure the game still works properly after doing so.

Most of the people on LL who have a stable game with lots of mods have worked at it for quite some time. You wont do it over night.

I don't use Vortex but I'm pretty sure you can import NMM's mods into it.
