Hello! Anyone knowledgeable in modding Skyrim via Vortex (I tried MO2, it only loaded the mods downloaded from nexus and obvs not the loverslab ones or any else) please help me if possible! I am new to modding Skyrim but have been trying since Friday to get my mods (Skyrim Romance and the required mods for that one specifically) to work but since switching to Vortex today, Skyrim won't even open anymore. I'd be happy to send pictures of whatever you need, apologies as, again, I am a beginner, so please be patient :)

My suggestions:

Start by reinstalling skyrim SE and launch it once using Launcher and choose options.

Then go back to using MO2 and choose portable version when launching it first time.

Install Skyrim Script Extender, and LOOT. (google it)

Launch game through MO2 using SKSE, not SkyrimSE.exe

-then google tutorials or watch some videos on youtube if anything is unclear.

Hi. To install mods from loverslab you have to use the button ,,Install from file'' in the mods category. If needed Vortex will show a window for to choose an option for your mod.

About your problem with Skyrim app, check if all mods u have installed are compatible with Skyrim SE. I had similar problem and it worked for me.

Also try checking file consitency  file consistency on Steam. If that won't help, You can  wait for someone else to respond because im not an expert, since im using Vortex for 3 months, or try reinstalling Skyrim.  When i modded Legendary edition it always helped.

Hi, these are the things i wish i got told when i started.

download this https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/164

and learn to use it, there are tutorials on the page and on youtube. this is the best thing you can do honestly.

this will do 90% of the work for you.

also the gamerpoets tutorial on M02 is a must. forget Vortex.

don't run the 'sort' function on mo2

install and use loot until you can sort your load order with SSEEDIT and M02.

Which honestly won't take that long if you watch the tutorials.

Loot is great for beginners with relatively small load orders but is really not much help with 100+ mods and beyond.

this path will take a little longer to get going but will lead to hours more epic gaming rather than staring at the desktop again.

I had checked when using MO2 and they should be compatible, the thing is I removed all mods from SkyrimSE's file and just downloaded the standard FNIS (SE), SKSE (SE), and SkyUI (also SE to my knowledge) and the game still wont open. I'll definitely try reinstalling, thank you for the advice!

I will definitely try this! Uninstalling Vortex and reinstalling Skyrim as I type this. Hopefully starting from scratch will work. Thank you for your help! Hopefully I don't have to complain on this forum again once I get the mods installed lol

do either of you two I responded to earlier know where I put skse64? In the game's data folder or MO2's folder? Or just let MO2 handle it?

The "Data" should be installed with MO2,

the rest (u do not need all of it, but you can) should be manually put where your SkyrimSE.exe is located.

"..SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\"

It is also possible to just dump all into "..SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition" if you dont mind having a "non clean" data folder.

-Launch game with SKSE in MO2 from now on.

EDIT: this is if u use the zip version of SKSE

make sure you set skse, loot, fnis etc to run with admin rights

right click exe, go to compatiblity, click run as admin, apply.

if MO tells you an app requires elevation it doesnt have admin rights set.

windows x64 x86 folders don't like 1 program modifing another. (this is what viruses do)

some anti viruses can give a false postive for skse and you may have to set an exemption.

I apologize as I am not quite sure what all the technical stuff means...I'm still trying to download SKSE64 and it says that it has "most likely not been downloaded correctly and will not work", I've watched the tutorials too...

Then you probably need to redownload it and then unpack it.

So

1. I download the SKSE64 SE file

2. I take everything but the data folder from the SKSE and copy it into my skyrim game

3. Then I take the data (and have tried the entire thing) from SKSE and put it in MO2 but the file is unrecognizable

I followed the tutorial, what am I doing wrong? :(

Just move like this and launch game in MO2 through skse.

Its a bit messy in my skyrimSE folder since I am currently occupied with FO4 instead.

You can also just move everything but the data folder, then install the skse.zip into MO2, only the data folder is needed in MO2,

but u need the rest in skyrim folder.

Thank you so much for visuals! I really appreciate the time you're taking to help me figure this out :) the problem seems to be with the second pic for me, I click "insstall mod" and then skse64 or skse64 data and it takes me through empty files...629887468_Screenshot(2).png.f0c48bb7efe7b4eef93d3b5112d1c51a.png

Unable to see your pic, but if the skse64_2_00_17.7z is empty or missing something u probably need to download it again.

It is possible to manually install it to mo2:

1. Unpack the skse64_2_00_17.7z

2. Rename the "data" folder to something else, like "skse64"

3. Take the renamed folder and put it in "mods" where your MO2 is installed.

4. Refresh MO2 or restart and it should show in the left window.

That worked! Thank you so much! Hopefully I can get the other stuff like FNIS and SkyUI downloaded too, will be sure to hop back here if I have any problems. I love how loverslab is more responsive to modding problems than nexus lol
