Loot Freeze

I have lots and lots of mods, I'm used to some random crashes and freezes and learn to live with them. Problem is when they are more of an inevitable fixed crash.

 

Started having those on my last playthrough, entered Fellglow Keep, started killing mages, and now some of them become insta-freeze traps when looted.

I figured it could be an item that gets randomly spawned in them, since if I load a previous cell save, re enter and loot the same people again, the crash is not necessarily there, but if I load the enter-cell save, it will always crash with the same enemy.

 

Any idea how to even begin diagnosing this or if there's any known culprits?

I'm tired as hell and I dont want to start doing the same mod-disabling shit blindfold all over again.

Have you tried looting one piece from their inventory  at a time till you hit the item causing the problems? I remember having this problem before where one type of enemy would have a item in their inventory and if I tried to take it the game would crash. So I opened their inventory and started taking one piece at a time till I crashed then I knew which one to not take when looting them.

No it doesnt work that way.

The minute I hit activate to open the inventory, the freeze happens. Container never loads.

 

Well, something else happened which makes this whole deal more confusing.

I waited for the freeze. I'm using a thing called OneTweak which allows the use of alt-tab without crashing, so I did it, waited doing something else, and at some point, I clicked Skyrim again.

When I did so, the container (dead body) was open and displaying a list of items f which, none looked weird. Just robes, gold, a dagger and some boots. But it was still frozen.

That mean the game is not really frozen, is making something weird for a long time. 

As you can make alt+tab open the task admin and look CPU usage.

If Tesv.exe have 0% usage can be bad DLL with a bad mutex that is automatically restarted.

If Tesv.exe have 100% usage can be a bad DLL making a constant stupid work.

If Tesv.exe have 25% usage can be a bad script making bad things.

 

While you have that strange freeze try open the console.

If you can not open the console or can not write on it the problem can be caused by a DLL.

If you can open the console the problem can be caused by a script. In the console write:

dps

save freeze

 

DPS -> Dump Papyrus Stacks write in the log all the running scripts. Make the same as any normal Stack Dump but with whitout the first line.

save freeze create a savegame called freeze and you can open it with resaver for look the Active Scripts and other inportant data.

 

If you not see anything important in that log and savegame upload it in your next message. I can take a look.

New weird event.

Console-selected a known bugged  dead mage

Typed disable, then enable

He came back naked. His inventory was now unfucked

Had some "hooded robes"

Picked them out, they dont appear on player's inventory, but they have weight.

 

Tried again the method of looting and waiting. Takes about  5-10 minutes for the inventory to load (this in alt-tab mode, once it comes back, it's frozen again)

The items are not the same as the post disable-enable ones. It sayw "Robes of Major Alteration"

 

So its either a bugged dll or a bugged robe maybe?

I have no idea where could a robe alter come from though. Item says it belongs to Skyrim.esm.

Then, I was able to loot the dead mage in the save.

One of those has to be messing with something. Will continue tomorrow though.

That CPU ussage match with 100% usage of 1 core in a 6 cores CPU same as 25% in my 4 cores CPU.

If you not have access to the console i doubth a problem in one DLL. Normally, the execution of DLL's not lock the render engine and allow use the keys and the controls. Your problem seems to by a deadlock in the game engine.

That can be a problem in the savegame.

When you enter any location the npc's have the position, habilities, weapons and inventory defined by the mods that you have when you start the game the first time.

If you type disable-enable and the npc show naked is because that clothes, really, not exist in the game and when you take it can not show in your inventory, because not exist, not have name nor description. You see it because is stored in the savegame inside the inventory of the npc with the name and description used when the npc was created the first time you start the game.

But when you take it the game can not show info about an item that, really, not exist as a real object inside the game. You are seeing a copy stored inside the inventory of the npc.

Theorically, that items must disapear inmediatelly and normally not cause freeze as you have. Remove a mod in mid game is not a problem for the game because that items automatically disapear when you take it or when you clean the savegame.

Be sure you have cleaned your savegame.

The problem can be related to Clothing & Clutter Fixes because that mod have scripts that make dynamic changes of items and, maybe, when try make the replacement, as the item really not exist, the game go crazy.

Sorry the long delay. Been busy.

Anyway. Think I fixed that. Turns out it was the bashed patch. Tried a few combinations of options to rebuild it and now it works.

 

I'm having a different issue though.

Still trying to fix it on my own account, but i'm starting to think I'll probably require some assistance, maybe I'll post a thread for it, or just continue here I dont know.

I was playing with my fully modded version, and I had gone a really long way from the start, deep into the game, and suddenly, I get insta CTD on save.

Thought the save might be corrupted which usually gives a message or shows a papyrus anomaly with ReSaver, but nope.

Worst part is it doesnt give any symptoms until the bad save is reloaded and I try to save again from it. It affects any kind of save, manual, auto or quicksave and it's not location-dependant. Save = CTD that's the deal.

Only one weird thing happened before, which was that I saved manually, and instead of giving me normal 034 etc number it gave me a weird number like Save 234543634, and one autosave on enter said "Unknown Location" (But I didn't continue from that one, since it crashed a few seconds after it made it)

Saves after "234543634" did a reset on the count, so they were 000, 001 etc.

Oh an another weird symptom was one of the saves that could still be made (after weird number, before CTDs), but still carried the bug (Loading it is possible, saving is CTD), seemed to nuke all config files. On load it gave a message about JContainers not existing, then faces and hairs were gone, and Familiar Faces deleted my exported character files.

Had to delete all my progress after that since I'm hoping going back can prevent it, but I really have no frigging clue what might cause that, and I fear that without that knowledge, it will inevitably happen again.

I think that savegame is totally corrupt and, probably, each savegame made after that 234543634 is damaged.

 

Normally, the game not have any problem making the savegame, but one of each 100 or 200 savegames is corrupt and have bad data. The only way for notice it is load one of that corrupt savegames for discover that the game not works correctly when load that exactly savegame while when load another savegame the game not have any problem.

 

One of my golden rules is: If the game not works as expected NOT save the game.

Load the last stable savegame and delete any intermediate savegame.

 

 

But i know that, others times, you had others criticals errors when save the game.

I remember a savegame whitout any script and now you get a savegame with number 234543634. 

WHY you had that critical errors? I not know. Can be bad lucky? Maybe. Can be a bad mod? Can be.

But i never had a similar problem and i not find any reference in any post in the web to a similar error.

Can be a machine problem? Can be, but i really doubth it.

Yeah, that's what I ended up doing.

I think it was just a one time thing. Scary as hell to encounter it seeing as it has no solution.

Thought the entire setting was doomed if it was inevitable, but it seems like it isn't.

 

Continued playing from there on. So far, I've only encountered lesser issues with NPCs

One on The Forsworn Conspiracy quest where going to talk to Thonar Silverblood triggers the attack on his family and then he tells the player about Madanach, only in my game, he doesnt. I get first 2 lines of dialogue and then (...) and the dialogue tree loops unable to clear that quest objective. But it's bypassable by doing the Nepos part, after which Eltrys gets murdered, player gets framed and the Cihdna Mine section of the quest gets triggered.

 

And the latest is on The Blue Palace, when upon enter, there is a court scene where Falk Firebeard talks to Elisif about Wolfskull Cave or something... In my game, that scene doesnt happen, and all NPCs are stuck saying "please dont interrupt the court"; probably because I installed something called Skyrim Radioactive... a merged thing of it anyway. That mod alters interiors a lot and completely rebuilds the Blue Palace, starting by moving the throne room to a new third floor. Still, it's not that mod alone, since I think it should work on top of a vanilla game, but on mine, it doesnt, probably because of mod interactions. I'm too dumb to mod dialogue, questing or AI so I dont think I can fix it. Anyway, I can also bypass that by waiting a day outside, after that, the court scene is no longer called and I can talk to the NPCs normally.

 

Also I'm sorry whoever reads this for my going "off-topic", but this is my biggest project actually; to have a full long playthrough with a heavily modded game without it getting broken mid-way, or me adding new mods that make dramatic changes.

I'm fighting through the small issues I encounter along the way. Could make a new thread, but I dont want to spam.
