As an aside, I'd offer to help make a LL Neverwinter Nights mod but I tried once and couldn't even get a companion to work right. I have ideas but not the expertise. Perhaps I should try once again to learn how scripts work. They terrify me!

I tried Gladiatrix but I really couldn't get into it. It seems like its just dungeon after dungeon after dungeon. I was like WHURS TEH BOOBZ!? Maybe I didn't get far enough? I got to the part where you go to the crypt with the two male champions from the other school and at that point I threw up my hands and quit. I thought we were going to be doing arena fights and then some sex in between or something. Not slogging through dungeons with basic encounter triggers. They didn't even have any archers or magic users, they didn't use the terrain in meaningful ways to enhance the fights. You just ran through corridors until the next set of 5 auto attack melee mobs pop in.

 

 

I know this sounds like I am bashing, but I really want to like this thing. So far, however, I don't see the redeeming qualities.

 

What do you guys like about it?

Does the system change after you finish at the academy?

Do the fights get more interesting?

Is this even an adult mod? Because Ive played 4 hours and seen only a masturbation scene.

 

Maybe I am simply spoiled by AWDR?

My thoughts exactly. And I played longer, into the city arena fights and those special missions you get. Sexy stuff always seemed to be just around the next corner, but nothing really worthwhile ever materialized.

 

Edit: Actually there was this one scene in a bath house that was actually about to be great, but it turned out to be just a cruel tease. Sigh.

There isn't *much* sex in the module, but there is a decent bit in the city. A lot of it is optional and you have to find it.

 

 

 

 

As for the masturbation scene I'm guessing you are referring to early in the grove, if you follow the sound you hear you can have some fun with the stable boy. Come back later and really go at it.

 

After a certain fight in the main arena you'll get invited to a voyeuristic sex club and have to "wrestle" in front of a crowd.

 

At one point you have to go "undercover" as a stripper/escort in the Gentlemen's club.

 

Once you and your party leave the city to the snowy wastes there's an inn you can choose to stop off at and much 3-way fun ensues... stuff like that. So there is sex you just hafta find it.

ADWR has a lot more sexual content than the Gladiatrix series but I found it worthwhile once you get past the initial dungeon crawling aspect of it.

 

I hope you give it another go because it gets pretty interesting in my opinion.

FallynRayne's priority seems to be "telling a very specific story," so player choice can be expected to remain minimal throughout the Gladiatrix series. I'll be ever-so-glad if part three proves me wrong. Sexy stuff consists mostly of romances and the occasional scene catering to one kink or another here and there. What little there was of Dragon Claw Inn entertained me more than this entire series so far.

 

The Aurora Toolset is the only set of module creation tools I've come across that really tempted me to continue modding. Everything just clicks: great conversation editor/structure, manageable scripting, simple yet flexible terrain editor. Making monsters and NPCs is a breeze, as is itemizing a dungeon (no need to add stuff to half a dozen lists as blueprints, I can simply plop down a chest and put loot in it).

 

I've toyed with the idea of using NWN to tell a story about a sorceress who gets entangled in the power games of the kingdom's mage elite. Some of it is already written on DreamPath... making it a choose your own adventure type thing would be simpler, but NWN would add more variety with combat and such.

 

While Demonheart doesn't really seem like it's going to be my kind of thing, I look forward to Celeritas Eos and especially the sequels with a player-made protagonist. I'm glad to see people are still playing and building for NWN.

This may very well be the case. ADWR is the pinnacle. It kind of snaps your neck with that opening scene and sucks you in. You are right away emotionally vested in the main character's plight. Gladiatrix however takes a little longer to get moving. The Glad series isn't what I would call a "sex module", but more like a regular NWN module that happens to have a few racy scenes. If you've made it as far as the academy and still don't care about the main character, then maybe it's not your bag.

ADWR actually spoiled me for a lot of RPGs... and fiction in general. It covered all the bases, and delved into emotion and relationships in ways that make Bioware seem simply childish in their approaches, and the Witcher mild.

 

I suppose thats the reason Game of Thrones/SoFaI is so popular. After all, the module seems to be pretty much based on it, at least world-building wise.

 

I delved into the toolset once to try my hand myself, but I think I started too big. I may have a look again some day, maybe try something in the style of Dragon Claw Inn. Somethng like it seems a good starting point.

And adding to the chorus here, ADwR pretty much spoiled me on any adult oriented RPG's.   What was truly amazing about Valine's module, is it was her first one out of the gate.  Simply incredibly it was so good from the very beginning.   It hit all my interests, including about nailing all my erotic buttons as well.  Simply magnificent.

I see where your coming from, and I am perfectly fine with a more combat oriented mod with some sexy stuff. It just seeme like, and I am not trying to be a dick, that they just didn't pull off the combat, resluting in a boring mod. I found myslf engrosed in the story to some extent (admittedly im not that hard to please in that regard) but I found myself dreading the dungeons because they all felt so bland.

 

Most of the fights (that I saw) were essentially this:

 

-Walk down corridor with encounter triggers

-Spawn monsters around player party

-Monsters try and auto attack party

-Heros bash monsters with auto attacks till they are dead

 

And while that would be fine in say a persistant server or MMO, where your just grinding for loot or XP, in a narritive its distracting and frankly boring.

 

For a mod about combat you need to be a bit more creative with the darn combat. Here are a few ideas:

 

-Room with a rampart around the edge and a ramp to get up to it. Archers are on the rampart shooting you and you have to get up to them before they range attack you to death.

-Melee mobs spawn and bottleneck you in a corridor while a monster wizard stands back and pelts you

-Three or four archers/casters are spawned at four corners of a big room and you have to run between and fight each before they spell/arrow you to death.

 

Those are just off the top of my head, Spend five minutes thinking and Ill bet you can come up with better ideas.

 

 

If the combat is boring in a combat heavy mod there is something wrong.

 

Also the masterbation scene I was talking about is at your first night at the acemdemy. You fall asleep afterwards and oversleep and are forced to train in your underwear, its was pretty funny.

In ADwR, the princess can always choose what to do in those situations, but Gladiatrix only offers teases. Nevertheless, Gladiatrix II improved a lot, hopefully III will be even better. =D

From her blog on III it seems there's going to be a lot of shenanigans going on in the third installment. I just hope it lives up to the previews I've seen of it.

I agree in that it looks like FR is hinting there might be more sexy shenanigans taking place in the 3rd one.  The first one just kinda tested a bit.  The 2nd one did have a NC scene with the main character.  And I thought a really sexy one was set up in the cave where the PC and another looked on.  I thought that was very well done and erotic, but..afterwards there didn't seem to be any consequences from that.  No extra lines of dialog or other scenes followed.  So that was a bit disappointing.  But yeah, there has been a lot of "near miss" sort of stuff in her enhanced sexual situations that basically just teased us.

 

So I am hoping the progression continues -- that she'll build on what happened in II and continue to add on from there.

 

Demonheart (with Thirdpres writing additional scenes) and Celeritas Eos both sound promising.  Demonheart will likely take awhile before it gets released, but Celeritas Eos is getting pretty close to being fully tested and ready for release soon (hopefully).

Hopefully celeritas eos is actually going to release on feb, the auther said similar things 3 months ago. Too bad my project and real life stuff are filling up all my free time, not sure if i will have time to try it out.

It's much better actually. There are a lot less backtracking and more sex scenes. There is also one nonconsensual scene, but it's not really that spicy. To be fair, Gladiatrix I is FR's first attempt at making a game, we should really cut her some slack. It's not like ADwR which has been updated constantly for 5 years.

I agree on all points, especially the last, in fact I have been toying with the idea of working on a mod myself. The NWN toolset is a such a great asset, I feel like I could do some good things with it.

No, she is very secretive about her projects. Thirdpres from vault is the few people who can directly contact her long time ago, but he cannot seem to find her either. There is rumor that Valine had twins few years ago, that's why there is no more updates. Maybe she will surprise us in 10 or 20 years......

I guess my feeling is it would be nice to know one way or the other.  Either that she says there will be an update....someday.  Or that she's completely done with it.   It's the not knowing that is making a lot of us a bit antsy.

 

Ok, she has got her own life and certanly doesn't owe me or any of us a thing.  It just would be nice to know one way or another if she ever plans to do any more work with them.  It would save me the weekly trip to the Vault looking for updates. 

 

Regardless, am hoping she's happy and healthy and enjoying whatever she's doing at present.  Those ADwR modules were fantastic and I am so glad she did decide to release them to the Vault for all of  us to enjoy.
