Reginald_001 Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 I'm currently enjoying a home theater projector (which is pretty awesome with DTS surround) and have some pretty decent monitors at home. I've received a nice little bonus for making 16 hour workdays for 8 weeks in a row and no weekends and now I've been attracted to perhaps buying a VR headset. But I see I'm pretty green as there's quite a few available and most of them seem to be created for very particular needs (e.g. smartphone usage, watching movies, business/office work (why would you?? etc..etc..), I see people need to physically turn their heads while playing a game which is a no-no for me. My workspace is much too clogged and I like sitting down while gaming. I think if I wanted to buy a VR headset I'd do 3 things with it: Watch movies, watch porn, try to create or find VR porn games (yup I was honest about it). So I see higher resolution headsets are coming out (e.g. 2k headsets) and I've been looking into the Vive models for now, which look pretty good. But I'm a) not convinced yet I should buy one and b) not sure about brands and quality... is it worth the investment? I was wondering if any of you have knowledge/experience and recommendations you want to share.
Kaldor Draigo Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 no there not there not worth it to me at all its just worthless junk when vr isnt supported anymore so i suggest just save your money
ToJKa Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 As an owner of Oculus Rift, i'm going to say no. Sure the depth effect is very nice if you can deal with the nausea, but it's uncomfortable and awkward to use, poor resolution, and the games are shit. And it's expensive. Or atleast were when the thing still worked. Like with Raytracing (as an owner of RTX 2080 TI too, the rendering alone upgrades graphics of Quake 2 to Doom 3, but also lower framerates to ~45) i'm going to say that the technology isn't there yet. After 5 or ten 10 years it will be awesome. Unless it goes away like 3D televisions. If you've got disposable money, it might be worth it for the novelty, but personally i'm much happier with my ultra-wide display. ...Come to think of it, the display was more expensive

I had a lingering feeling this was the case. 2K displays are coming on the market, but I have to say I'm in love with the analogue feeling of the projector/beamer I bought. Everything just blends nicely on the wall and it makes all movies looks huge and crisply lit because my wall has a slightly reflective surface. It's really like having a home theater and I think nothing besides an expensive widescreen like yours beats that kind of experience, especially when I set my woofers so loud the room rumbles when shit happens in a movie. I saw people in videos, jerking around with wiring and getting sick as well. I think I'll have the same experience, as I already get sick from using my reading glasses, let alone a VR headset. I would like to have a see-through display though, that would seamlessly project stuff onto my apartment, like.. yellow post it notes on my fridge, screens/monitors projected onto my wall on fixed places.. (or in the air) a virtual girlfriend like Ivy that would wander around the apartment with me as long as I had the glasses on, etc..etc..
Mr. Otaku Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 It depends on what you want really. I for example use my VR headset for sim racing, since i'm a huge motorsport/car enthusiast i'm heavily interested in sim racing and i take it more seriously than just using a controller. I have a wheel set up and manual shifters and everything, though they aren't pricey because i'm not exactly rich. Sim racing in general does not require a VR headset of course, you can use a flat screen as well. But an addition of VR into sim racing changes the whole experience. Once you go VR with sim racing there's just no comparison anymore. Flat screens will never be the same. Though there are some indy games that ae fantastic with VR as well, notably Playhome and Honeyselct comes to mind, VRKanojo is good but only for an hour or so, more on that some time else perhaps. But, i can't say that i would use it in a looter shoorter or hack and slash type game so to speak, though a strictly VR sniper shooter could be a cool little niche idea. Skyrim is in VR but i didn't invest in it either, didn't even consider it, though there are more reasons for that (I'm not buying more Skyrim Todd!!). It very much depends on what you want out of your VR and what kind of experienbce you wanna have with it. I mean VR porn is an absolute blast to watch with a VR headset i can say that much, they cost a bit more but eh, most of my porn is just regular 1080, 2K and 4K anyway so i don't really have an issue there. Movies aren't exactly made in 360° VR cause then they'd cost at least 10 times more of what they usually do. So in conclusion, VR's range is pretty limited right now, and if you absolutely aren't sure what you want the VR for you might wanna look into the genre and different communities around VR before you make a decision. Sim racing and porn and some indy games are the reason i got myself a fairly standard and run of the mill VR set. You gotta find your reason. Hope this was helpful. 。^‿^。 If you wanna know what VR sim racing for example is like, check this out for some reference:

Ernest Lemmingway Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 It's not just the tech that's underdeveloped. Content is likewise lacking as of yet. Simply put, there aren't that many videos, games, and whatnot that support VR itself. Most things you can play over a headset but very few of them are actually designed to make use of the potential. Even those that purportedly are designed for VR are usually pretty limited in what they let you do with it. Adding depth to the graphics is not enough IMO. This is tech that's supposed to let us interact with a virtual environment in ways similar to that of the real world. So far that hype has not been realized. Especially when the tech to take things further already exists but is still limited to VR arcades or computer studios. Even simple stuff like gloves that contain air bladders to simulate the pressure of holding something solid. Where is the home version of that?

Even simple stuff like gloves that contain air bladders to simulate the pressure of holding something solid. Where is the home version of that? I love the gear in Ready Player One (up to a point). The pressure suit with 'penile sleeve' and 'genital sleeve'.. gimme that.. with a headset or much better yet, unobtrusive lenses or just augmented glasses (sort of like google glasses). Then add virtual stuff to real life, augment it and improve it with virtual items that you can touch and interact with. Hell, even a simple pressure suit should be really hard, it's an air pump, some air pockets that can fill up and drain.. et. voila pressure. Gloves and joints in the suits can give pressure and added motion.. There are small projectors, affordable range, that I've been thinking about of placing in my bedroom, so it can project onto the ceiling. That way I can lie in bed (if I'm sick, or otherwise.. 'engaged') and watch movies. Not sure why whole parts were cut from this (where he explains he has a full body suit that feels everything, but it closest to the scene I could find). Never mind found the whole scene, and in HQ. This setup that he has.. sitting down comfortably.. that's the one I need and I'd invest money in. "Microfiber crotch inlay".. Hehehe he.. also, she's smoking hot..
