All NPCs have black face Skyrim Special Edition

Recommended Posts

I made a thread on the wrong board so I'm putting it on the appropriate one. I have been getting black face on all npc due to lack of vram. This is my new load order since I am trying to figure out which mod is being a resource hog.

Black face bug starts occurring with these mods, also it affects male and females I dont know if this is redundant or not apologizes in advance for my ignorance on the subject matter I don't make mods, code, or anything I just download mods. Ive only recently started coming across this bug I have an 8gb 1070.

i cant say much about vortex, but make sure that the mod that overwrite npcs is also higher in plugin list.

I think vortex automatically sorts them is that what mean?

Take no notice. load order will not do anything for black faces caused by lack of VRAM. Grey face due to missing textures, yes.

The issue here is that you need to have your Skyrim configured correctly in order to use memory better (RAM and VRAM). If you were using LE I could help you but I don't so I'm pointing you here instead:

Hopefully reading that will help and someone will jump in here and give you some advice.

I screenshot of the problem would still be a good idea. Save the image as a jpg and drag it to the paperclip in the bottom left corner there.

IMO vortex sucks. MO2 is a better engine, much more intensive to set up, but once you do, changing mods around (say you have kids and want the sloot mods disabled) you can actually profile for that (save game not included). and such as this, you can just click a check mark and the mod is off. So checking for bad mods (there are quite a few LE mods that work as is) you just uncheck and it keeps your Steam or Bethesda files in PRISTINE condition so you are never having to redo this or that to make it work. to quote Fraud Howard "It just works" Since you posted you have an i-7 and 16gb ram on ddr4 i'm going to guess you also have win 10 and a gtx 1070. except for not knowing which i-7 you have it's pretty close to a rig i built for a friend of mine.

Grey Cloud is correct, but in SSE the memory cap is gone (ESP limit at 255 is still in effect), your only limit is your cpu and how much ram and vram you have. (unfortunately this is where Microsoft actually did something right) if you let windows manage your vram if the game needs it it boosts it. However there's not much difference between grey and black to most people. grey face looks like this and is caused by one mod overwriting facegen data while the second mod tries to put the face tint mask on the wrong "skull" (or two faces at once if that's how you want to look at it) This ios one i am currently tracking in my game. but i have a pretty goot idea it's bijin aio fighting dibella sisters, i just have not messed with it as i also have a little puppy i'm training and teaching.

Spoiler

EDIT:looking at your load order a few things pop out. eyes of beauty below bijin for one, move bijin npc and bijon frea-iona well towards the bottom.or move all the eye mods up. i think i counted 6 of them.

Its because you have too many mods affecting the same npc's, I forget what the term actually is but you will need to go into the Creation Kit and regenerate their facegen files to clear it up and have your mods... I seem to remember a utility/mod that would automatically batch do this but I'm not 100%.

Then why is it affecting males?

i fixed all black faces in my build with the overwrite folder in mo2

Run LOOT first. this will fix most but not all black faces.

Just make sure that the files.

\overwrite\textures\Actors\Character\FaceGenData\Facetint and the nif's in \overwrite\meshes\actors\character\facegendata\facegeom correspond to the mods you want to have priority.

worked 100% for me.

Extract each mod facegendata folder (both Textures and meshes) to the MO2 overwrite folder  in ascending order from lowest to highest priority and overwrite as you want.

Tip: the NIF name is the same as the base id. (not needed for this process but if you really want to get tricky and mix and match)

you need both the facetint and facegeom data.

I fixed the issue, it was an npc overhaul mod it wasnt listed in npcs and I was really confused. Thanks for all the suggestions and help though.
