Should I quit gaming?

Or you can go in a different direction: stop playing games and start modding them! Seriously, you can blow twice the time and zero money learning to mod.

@ the mad god:

with #4 (the DLC issue), bethesda would be a prime example of this.

with #7 (DRM), you're completely wrong. Many companies have gone way overboard with DRM, one good example would be EA...... why do you think spore was (at the time) the most pirated game ever, folks didn't like the DRM that only let you install like 3-4 times ever w/o calling them up and ASKING them to allow your serial number to be installed again. (IE: only installs even with a net connection).

11- actually console fanboys ARE what has ruined gaming.

Spending your time and money to other thing like for sport' date=' family, small entrepreneurship, career training, love and study is always a good idea.

People gain nothing when they spent the life on video games, other than ambidextrous masturbation.

I totally agree with you that we need things in our life other than video games. However, when reading http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2012/12/19/intelligence-iq-test-debunked.html I noticed

"Intriguingly, people who regularly played computer games did perform significantly better in terms of both reasoning and short-term memory," said Adam Hampshire, one of the study's authors.

... so apparently video games can have a positive contribution to the non-gaming aspects of some people's lives.

Still, if you are not enjoying them, I would think it obvious that you should be finding something else to do with your time.

Let's look at it in another way.

Q: Should I ditch my current significant other?

Why? I just don't enjoy her company anymore because:

1) Cost - She's too high maintenance, her tastes are out of my price range

2) Quirks - There's some days she seems to do things just to annoy me

3) Too focussed on the physical - She has a nice body and she's pretty, but that's all she's got going for her.

4) Holding out - She says she's 100% committed, but she won't committ 100%

5) Infidelity - Says she wants an "open relationship"...

6) Mixed Signals - ...but when I tell her I only want her she feels guilty for #5

7) Unreasonal Demands - Refuses to accept me as I am and expects me to change

8) Inflexibility - Refuses to compromise and requires me to change

9) False pretenses - Led me to believe there was more depth to her then there really was

10) Lack of Variety - Only wants sex, but is almost useless for anything else

This, to me at least is kinda funny. I mean if this was about about a girl/guy (depending upon your preferences) you wouldn't be so torn. But games...oh, games are much more difficult to drop aren't they?

I say tak a small sabattical and go into movie mode, read books, etc. Basically, fill your former gaming time with something else for a week or two and then ask yourself this question again. If you still feel like you do now, then drop the games.

Don't quit.

Steam sales and decent little indie games have made gaming worth it again.

That and various awesome mods for older games (ie. S.T.A.L.K.E.R).

Plus, you can always take up a bit of modding yourself.

Perhaps end up with like minded individuals working on a project you all like.

Just saying :)

Emily also guess it's normal as you age and quit on games.

Normal is a meaningless word that has zero basis in reality. Your normal may be weird to me and visa versa.

I am a kid at heart and I play games as much now (at 40 something) as I did when I was a teenager. I'll still be modding and playing games until old age robs me of the ability to. ;)

I'm almost 30 and I still enjoy playing games. Hell, one of my goals in life is to beat 1,000 of them (a goal I'm almost 75% of the way to). So fuck your concept of normal; it's my hobby and I love it, even if I can see just how badly mauled and frayed it's become in the past decade or so.

But if you don't enjoy it anymore, then give it up; it's a hobby, not a life style you're locked into.

Normal really lacks any meaning these days, as the rapid advance of technowledgy as well as social changes has rendered the concept of 'normal' irrelvent.

Give life with computers, cell phones, internet, etc, a century or so and a new normal will reassert itself, then something new will come along (be it technological or sociological) that will yet again usher in a paradigm shift.

It's better to say that it is a consequence of aging then, the more you age the more games you play, consequently each game will seem less unique.

Some people to play their real life over 'second life'.

Max out their skills, inventory & wealth.

No simulation.

Safety protocol off.

Game unpluged.

Emily do both life though.

The Mundane life & the digitals.
