WandererZero Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 So, does anyone know of an alternative program to Sims 4 Tray Importer? While S4TI is good for a few things, it is essentially a poorly built application from a basic functionality standpoint, for instance: you can't ctrl-select or shift-select multiple items, and it does not have the delete key mapped to the delete function. This is basic bad design, and essentially makes it worthless for the purpose of cleaning out tray files efficiently and quickly. So what I'm looking for here is: something that lets me view my tray files, select one or many, and delete them. I've looked and searched around to no avail. I know I can't be the only one who's faced this issue....tray management in Sims 4 is terrible, as I am sure we all know. Any ideas?
2cool4u_1 Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 Tray importer is awesome, except with regards to deleting gallery items. For importing, I actually prefer to do that manually, so I really just use it for exporting, and cleaning mods. So, yeah, I agree with you, it's horrible and slow for cleaning out your library. I used to have well over 16,000 items in my gallery, such that my gallery wouldn't load through the game (I'd leave it loading and give it 4 ~ 5 hrs, in case it was just slow, and it would still be loading). I had to use Tray Importer to clean it out (got it down to just over 5,000), and it was a real pain. Believe me when I say, after cleaning out more than 11,000 items through Tray Importer, I have searched really hard. Unfortunately, I have come up with nothing. I think you're / we're better off requesting a "mod" for this.

Yeah, I mean...for exporting, it's cool. But as a management tool it's the proverbial Pile O' Crap™ . I keep holding out for something out there, but I've searched and searched....but it's difficult to swallow that as bad as save management is, nobody would have done an app along these lines. Ugh.

Jesus Christ. You can't be fucking serious.

It's easy to ramp up the number of mods you use. Trivially easy. When you start adding CC for anything from Lots/buildings to custom sims....you'd be surprised how fast that number can grow.
R-Lo Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 I'm pretty sure that when you delete things from your library its removing the tray files too, It seems to be handled separate to save games, If you want a quicker way to view and delete cc, open it with sims 4 studio, Or drag the package file on to its icon, The studio opens straight into a viewer and you can see the item worn on the rig and all its available swatches and tags etc Sometimes I comb through my folder opening them up and then delete the stuff I dont need, As for families and lots/rooms I delete those in game library

That accounts for about 8,300 items. I played Sims 3, but when you're fresh to Sims 4, all the CC and sims look so shiny and new. If you're aware of my sim-dressing project, I'm using outfits from people's simselves. Well, before I used simselves to populate my worlds, and I was a bit addicted to having my sims dress like sane people. They accounted for the other ~8,500 items. That was until a year ago, now I have abstained from simselves and have under 100 items (which includes all of your sims). I downloaded a couple thousand simselves, but they're only for the project and are kept in a separate folder. 4 hours ago, WandererZero said: More than likely. That's very true. My friend and I decided to share CC (not mods), and the next thing I know I had 39.1GBs of CC only. I was speaking about sims though, not CC. 4 hours ago, R-Lo said: I'm pretty sure that when you delete things from your library its removing the tray files too, It seems to be handled separate to save games, If you want a quicker way to view and delete cc, open it with sims 4 studio, Or drag the package file on to its icon, The studio opens straight into a viewer and you can see the item worn on the rig and all its available swatches and tags etc Sometimes I comb through my folder opening them up and then delete the stuff I dont need, As for families and lots/rooms I delete those in game library Deleting things from the library does delete the tray files, and it is separate from saves. If you delete a sim that is used in a save, you can get them back. Alternatively, once you load a sim (or lot) and save it, you can delete it from your library if you're not going to use them again. The save saves their info. I think S4 Studio is, in fact, the quickest way to comb through multiple CC. I delete almost all my households through the game library, but somewhere after 11,000 the library stopped loading. I had to use Tray Importer to clean it out.
