And did you run vramsizetest and configure your enblocal.ini file and do the edits on the S.T.E.P page?

I'm not. I'm just using a preset I found on either Loverslab or the Nexus, I think. I'm using Windows 10 with an Zotac Gaming RTX-2080 (8GB-VRAM) with 64GB of DDR4 RAM. If you've got or know of a preset for those specs, I'd be happy to try it.

The CTD can not be related to ENB in any way. The video card have 8 GB of Vram and is practically imposible fill it with that mod list.

Install ENB if you want, but is add another posible problem because ENB is not directly compatible win Win10 and must be installed in a specfic way following the correct guide.

If the CTD is caused by add mods removing the mods must solve it. Read the requeriments and the instructions of the mods and install it in the correct way or simple remove it and continue play.

If there is an ENB that is installed but incorrectly configured then it can cause problems.

Skyrim doesn't know about 8GB of VRAM that is one of the things ENBoost does, it allows Skyrim to use more VRAM. Does the W10 problem with ENB apply to ENBoost also?

If the problem is caused by a mod, then how?

Try getting rid of this:

NexusSkyrimOverhaul_Magic.esp

If this is one of those mod package things then it is a bad thing. It has been withdrawn from Nexus for copyright reasons I think.

Try starting and playing a vanilla game from the regular Skyrim launcher (with no mods). Let's see if the base game actually works.

Bedtime here.

Your first line is correct. If the game have ENB and the parameters in the enblocal.ini are incorrect the game can have problems. The most big of them is ExpandSystemMemoryX64 but is controled by Crash Fixes and show a warning message. Others bad parameters can not have a severe influence in the game. And is very strange can be related to the CTD. But all is posible.

For other side, Win10 is a bit special for ENB. Voris not give official support and the problems affect to all versions and variants of ENB. Not matter what parameters you have in the enblocal.ini because the CTD caused by ENB in Win10 is related to a bad version of the DLL's of DirectX 9 included in Win10 and the only solution is follow the guide, install the correct version of DirectX 9 and configure the rest of the applications of Win10.

Finally, we have that discusion before. ENB allow the game use more Vram ONLY when the video card not have enougth Vram. For ENB start working the Vram in the video card must be FULL or near. If the game not use ALL the Vram in the video card ENB make nothing. The boost mode and the memory optimizations of ENB are not necesary when you have enougth Vram. And for that the step guide say "user with 4gb of Vram or more may not need ENB" and the OP with 8 gb not need ENB.

ENB is a very good tool and is strictly necesary when you have less than 4gb of Vram. In this moment the Steam Chart show near 12k players for Skyrim LE and probably half of them or more not have ENB. Years ago, in the 2013 and 2014, near all players have ENB. Today, ENB is a tool for increase the visual quality of the game and is not used as stability tool because only the old machines need it.

Yes but how long ago did Boris say it? Both W10 and ENB series have been updated since then, so does it still apply. In any case, the OP here downloaded DX9 from the link at S.T.E.P.

ENBoost is a memory management feature added to ENBSeries to address the crashes and freezes relating to the well-known system memory (RAM) limit of 32-bit applications like Skyrim.

TESV.exe can only use a maximum of 2GB of system RAM on 32-bit Windows systems

That is pure guesswork.

That is impossible to prove as you cannot use an ENB without also using ENBoost.

Years ago and as i know Voris not change their support rules. A simple search in the Enb forums with the key Win10 show a lot of messages. This is written by Voris 15 days ago. Is for fallout but is aplicable to all games.

Any user with a video card with 6gb of Vram or more can prove it whitout any problem.

Only need rename the DLL and play for verify that the game not crash when not have ENB.

PLEASE... Not read ONLY the part that you WANT because a lot of times the things are NOT explained with ONE parragraf. If you REALLY want learn, PLEASE, read the entire page and, if you have any problem for understand it, ask for it.

PLEASE, read the ENTIRE page: https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB

In order to understand how ENBoost works, it is important to first know how Skyrim manages memory. The main Skyrim game executable, TESV.exe, is a 32-bit Large-Address-Aware (LAA) application. This means that although TESV.exe can only use a maximum of 2GB of system RAM on 32-bit Windows systems, it can access up to about 3.1GB of system RAM (4GB - about 900MB of system resources) on 64-bit systems. To drive the video card in displaying Skyrim's 3D rendered graphics, TESV.exe must store object geometry (the shapes of things in the game) and texture data cached in its memory space, which is then copied to your video card's VRAM to display. The memory limit is not a problem with an unmodded Skyrim because the cached data is dynamically loaded and unloaded to make room for new data as it's needed, and it almost never completely fills up all of TESV.exe's available RAM. However, when mods are added to Skyrim, the memory needed for cached data is significantly increased, and the more mods that are used, especially higher resolution texture mods, the higher the chance that TESV.exe will run out of memory. When this happens, either the program crashes or some objects do not get rendered. ENBoost overcomes this memory limitation by ...

As you can read say: and it almost never completely fills up all of TESV.exe's available RAM.

And what that mean??? YES... if the memory is not FILLED is not a problem.

the higher the chance that TESV.exe will run out of memory.  And that is the problem solved by ENB.

If you have enougth Vram and not FILL it you NOT NEED ENBoost.

And for that step say: Users with newer videos which have at least 4GB VRAM may not require its use.

Until you understand that 'may' does not mean 'definitely'. I have told you previously that I tried running without ENBoost when I got my 4GB of DDR5 VRAM card and I suffered from CTDs. As soon as I went back to ENBoost the CTDs stopped.

Until you understand that 'almost never' (on an unmodded game) does not mean 'never ever' on a modded game (and who LL is running an unmodded game).

And, I did read the entire page and have read it several times over the years. I posted excerpts which were relevant to what you had said. The point I was making was that ENBoost is not just about VRAM. The S.T.E.P. quote is talking about RAM.

I said you early that YOU need ENB because YOU have some mods and textures that exced your 4 GB of Vram.

If you remove that mods and that textures YOU not need ENB. Is easy. You can verify it with your game and your machine. If YOU need enb not mean that ALL users need ENB.

The parragraf that i paste is too clear. I the memory is not FULL the problem not happend. You only need free some memory.

Excuse me, but that line means you do not know what you're talking about.

The Vram is a private memory block inside the video card. None program can access it, change it or touch it.

Only the video card can put things in the Vram and made it with the drivers. And made that because a graphics library like opengl, directx o cuda request it. And that libraries are used by the games for transfer the mesh and textures to the video card.

When a program need compose a image need read all the related mesh and textures and need put it in RAM. Next call a function in the graphics library for order the video driver transfer that data to the Vram.

When the video card have all the data the game send the DrawCall order for render the object.

When all the objects are redered inside the Vram of the video card the game send the order for show the image and the video card update the screen.

I repeat part of my first line: When a program need compose a image ... put it in RAM.

Like none program can touch the Vram the problem, of course, is in RAM.

If you think that ENB are accessing the Vram you are totally wrong.

ENB is only a DLL that cache the mesh and textures of the game and intercept the directx calls that made the game for give to the video card some mesh and textures from their OWN RAM memory space. And make that because the RAM memory space of the game are FULL.

The RAM memory space of the game is FULL because when the game call the directx function for put a mesh or texture in the vram the driver of the video card answer if that mesh or texture is allready in the Vram.

If that mesh or texture is allready in the Vram the game not need read it because not need transfer it.

If that mesh or texture is NOT in the Vram the game must READ it and put it in RAM because NEED transfer it.

If you have enougth Vram the game not need have the mesh and textures in their OWN RAM because the video card allready have it.

But if the video card not have enougth Vram the video card discard data constantly and the game NEED transfer mesh and textures constaly.

In that situation, with a lot of memory movement, is when ENB start work caching the mesh and textures in their OWN RAM.

When the video card say:

"Not, sorry, i not have THAT texture because i discard it for not have enougth Vram. The game must transfer it again"

ENB intercep that call and send the texture from the RAM memoy space from ENB to the video card.

Making that the game not know that the video card not have that texture, because ENB intercept the call and provide the texture from the ENB RAM to the video card, and ENB say to the game that efectively the video card have the texture and the game not need read the texture for tranfer it to the video card.

That operation free RAM in the game and for that ENB is strictly necesary when you have 2gb of Vram.

And you can need ENB with a video card with 4 gb of Vram.

But is near imposible fill the 6gb of Vram with Skyrim and of course i never see a video card with 8gb of Vram filled when playing Skyrim.

This quote does not qualify that it is modded Skyrim, it just mentions newer cards. In other words, there is nothing in this sentence which says that modded Skyrim should need ENBoost any more than unmodded.

In short, the S.T.E.P. points to a limitation in the use of system memory (3.1GB of RAM) which can be overcome by ENBoost. That is wht my 8GB RAM, 2GB VRAM + ENBoost game worked fine but my 8GB RAM, 4GB VRAM without ENBoost game kept bombing. It would also have bombed with the 2GB card and no ENBoost. And all with the same mods.

NO, I'm sorry but NO ... again you do not know what you're saying.

The 3.1 gb limit is intrinsic to all 32-bit games. Really the limit is 3.5 gb in 32-bit programs that do not use graphics because the remaining 500 mb is used for buffers of the operating system and when graphics are used those buffers are increased up to 900 mb.

That limit can NOT be surpased NEVER. And ENB does not increase that limit in any way.

The only thing that ENB does is put the meshes and textures in their own memory space and that frees memory in the game because the game does not need to read or transfer meshes and textures. That leaves more free memory in the game but that will NEVER allow to exceed the limit of 3.1 GB because that limit can NOT be surpased NEVER.

That's why the technology has changed and that's why we have 64-bit operating systems and 64-bit programs and 64-bit games. Only and exclusively for that, to be able to access more memory.

But all this has no relation to whether ENB is necessary or not. And I do not know HOW to explain it to you.

If a user needs ENB or does not need ENB, it depends on how much memory his video card has and depends on the mods and textures he is using.

If you have 8 gb of Vram you will not need ENB even if you have a super modified Skyrim with 8K textures because it will never fill the 8 gb of Vram.

And if you have 6 gb of Vram you probably do not need ENB either because it probably does not fill them.

And if you have 4 gb of Vram you may need ENB or maybe not because it depends on which mod and textures you have. If you have a few mod and do not put HD textures, you will not need ENB either.

Obviously, if you have 2 gb of Vram you need ENB mandatorily because as soon as you put a few mods and a few textures the Vram will be filled and the game will begin to read textures and transfer them and it will end up exploding.

But if you remove your mods and remove your textures you will run out of problems and you will not need ENB to play a Skyrim Vanilla with a video card with 2 gb of Vram.

ENB is not strictly necessary or mandatory and I do not know how to say it to you or how to explain it to you.

Because ONLY depends on how much memory his video card has and depends on the mods and textures he is using.

If you think that an ENB can solve a CTD in a Skyrim with only 70 mods when the OP has a video card with 8 GB of Vram you are very wrong.

Where do I say that using an ENB will solve CTDs? I suggest using ENBoost and leaving the ENB proper until his problems are gone. And that is not semantics or pedantry as I mention both.

(I see that I wrote 'know' instead of 'now')

Thank you both for your help, Skyrim seems to be running fine again after removing some of my newer mods. Also, I was "Mancubus" before, to avoid any confusion. Thanks, again. (Edit) Skyrim was still crashing like mad, so I deleted the game and am now reinstalling Fallout 4. At least I was able to pass over 9,000 hours in Skyrim, so I could use the "It's over nine thousand!" meme. ?
