etrius107 Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 So I've installed a heck of a lot of mods on Skyrim, and most all of them work. The only problem I'm having is that FNIS won't read the animation mods when I run the tool, so none of the new animations will play ingame. I've been trying a lot of different fixes, including the ones on FNIS's own page. For starters, here's what I see when I run the tool from Vortex. https://pastebin.com/qtnGEKB2 After noticing the Bad Installation warning, I tried an experiment. I copied FNIS to Skyrim's data folder and ran it from there. It fixed the warning, but still no dice. https://pastebin.com/naFvUaRD I even tried to use the command line fix that FNIS has on its mod page. Also no dice. I'm pretty sure it was installed in the right order and has the right load order too, to the best of my knowledge. I'm just about at my wit's end, with no more ideas except for just gutting the whole thing and installing all of my mods manually. Any suggestions?
GenioMaestro Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 You have a bad installation of FNIS. Delete all yours installations of FNIS, because none of them works, and download and install FNIS again. Talking about installation, Fnis not have any diferent to any other mod. Simply download it with Vortex and click the button for install it. After made that, Vortex run Fnis automatically each time is nedd. In case of problems you have icon of Fnis in the Dashboard of Vortex, click the mini-triangle for launch Fnis manually if need.
etrius107 Posted March 17, 2019 Author Posted March 17, 2019 So I've done that. Deleted and redownloaded SNIS. I've already been running the tool from Vortex and tried launching manually too. No change, the tool still won't read any animation files. I've got that same installation warning when running it from Vortex too. Running the GenerateFNISforUSERS tool as an administrator doesn't seem to work either.
GenioMaestro Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 Your log say that you have a bad installation and only can be because you are making some bad things. Read the wiki. I not say any diferent. https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Tool_Setup:_FNIS Seems that you are manually uncompressing the file. You must NOT uncompress it. You must add to Vortex direcly the file with extension 7z. From your first log: Generator: D:\Games\VortexDL\downloads\deployment\FNIS Behavior 7_4_5 XXL-11811-7-4-5\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users\GenerateFNISforUsers.exe Is evident that your game is not located in D:\Games\VortexDL\.... From your second log: Generator: D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\FNIS Behavior 7_4_5 XXL-11811-7-4-5\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users\GenerateFNISforUsers.exe You have FNIS in the game folder but you have it in a folder called FNIS Behavior 7_4_5 XXL-11811-7-4-5 and must be in Skyrim\Data\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users\GenerateFNISforUsers.exe The folder called "FNIS Behavior 7_4_5 XXL-11811-7-4-5" must not be here and only can be because you are MANUALLY UNCOMPRESSING THE 7Z FILE.
etrius107 Posted March 17, 2019 Author Posted March 17, 2019 I think I'm doing a poor job of communicating the steps I've taken. Allow me to retry. I am not manually uncompressing the file. I downloaded it directly to Vortex from the Nexus site using the Mod Manager Download button. I only have the second log because I did manually uncompress it and put it there out of frustration for a single try. Then I went back to doing it directly from Vortex. I tried to redirect FNIS files into somewhere outside of Skyrim's data folder like the FNIS description says to try, pictured below. But something you said gave me a thought about something I forgot to mention. Quote Is evident that your game is not located in D:\Games\VortexDL\.... The VortexDL folder exists because I had to redirect Vortex's download and deployment path to the same drive my game is located on instead of my :C drive. Could that be causing a problem? Does my game or deployment folder need to be located somewhere specific for FNIS to read the rest of the mods? For extra information, the rest of my mods DO work, so I have no clue why the GenerateFNISforUsers tool won't work properly. I'm sure there's just a step I'm missing. UPDATE: I seem to have figured it out. I tried refreshing Vortex's tool menu instead of adding the file path the way I was originally told to makes the tool work. Thank you for your help anyway.

I'm coming here in Nov 2023 just in case you still didn't find a solution. DO as others said, remove FNIS and it's folders from Skyrim>Data folder. reinstall fNIS and go into vortex. Select Fnis and under the "Action" column next to the "remove" there is a down arrow tab. Click it and click on refresh tab. That did it for me. FNIS started reading the animations

I'd guess you have neither devious devices or sexlab installed as its only reading animation files for Defeat and Deviously cursed loot (pretty sure that one at least requires devious devices framework)
