lambient1988 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 So, I have now completely modded my Skyrim to the way I like it, through Mod Organizer. I would like to take backup of this. Because the last time my modded game died and I didn't take backup. My game kept crashing and I got too lazy to redo everything, so I didn't play Skyrim for two years. This time, I would like to take a proper backup. How do I do so? Mod Organizer Install Path (I am not using Portable edition): E:\Games\Mod Organizer Skyrim Install Path: E:\Games\Skyrim - Legendary Edition Mod Organizer Mods / Profiles Install Path: E:\Games\Skyrim - Legendary Edition\Mods Is taking backup through Mod Organizer a good idea?
Seijin8 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Simple way: copy the mod organizer profile. Problem: doesn't keep mods form being changed More complex: copy profile and make a backup of the entire mods directory in Mod Organizer. Problem: means if you ever have to revert, all the mods that have been updated will no longer be.
Nazzzgul666 Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 I guess no backup whatsoever will keep mods (or files in general) up-to-date automatically, partly because that's the point of it. You might want to have an option for going back if you break stuff.^^ So method 2 like Seijin8 suggested should be fine.

Backups are ALWAYS a good idea, but doing it only with MO is not enough for a selfconfident deep sleep.. I think I mentioned it somewhere before, but I take a pretty little no-brainer approach (similar to Seijin8's) : buy a cheap USB disk weekly: make backups of left pane and right pane within MO (click the button) weekly. zip the whole profile folder, attach the date to the filename and push it on the USB disk ( e.g. for today myprofil.20190202.7z) monthly: zip the whole MO folder, attach the date to the filename and push it on the USB disk (e.g. for today myMO.20190202.7z) goto 2 That way, my games survived quite a few broken hard disks. And if you feel worried about your USB disk, simply get another one, alternate between both and go on.
