C5Kev Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Well it's happened again! I got a small Win 10 update last night and game will not start AGAIN! What is stopping SKSE from running? So far I've checked or done: - Reinstalled SKSE 1.73 - Have SKSE pre-loader installed - Reinstalled DX9 - Reinstalled NVidia Driver 417.35 - Checked NVidia Control Panel Settings - Checked that SKSE_loader is, in fact, using my 1080 driver - All things run as admin This is utter nonsense having to go through all this crap. At this point, I have no idea what else to do.
ShivasBane Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 I had a similar problem but it had changed the screen resolution to one incompatible with my hardware. I just fired up the vanilla launcher and reset the resolution. Hope this helps. Win 10 screwed with both Skyrim installs, LE and SE. We really need to see your work in SE!
RW311 Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 I would check the logs in the skse folder under mydocuments\mygames\skyrim\skse.

Apparently by making the changes to Windows that are given in here I have no longer had the kind of problem that you are describing (although I had it before). You can fix it all again (as you've done recently) but hopefully this will help you from having to do it another time.

But thanks for your input. 3 hours ago, RW311 said: I would check the logs in the skse folder under mydocuments\mygames\skyrim\skse. GM said last time that one can disable Win Update as in previous versions of Windows. But you can't - at least I can't see how - one can only hold off installation of any update until the time they reboot. Then BAM! In it goes. I did uninstall a previous update, but that did nothing - except remove the update.
GenioMaestro Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 I think you have the link from your las problem. Is only for make works ENB with Win10. https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3089504-fix-for-skyrim-crashing-instantly-with-enb-on-windows-10/page-14#entry56131491 But if the problem is related to ENB your game must work when you remove ENB. As you said the problem is SKSE i presume you have a similar situation like you have some days ago. Your game start whitout SKSE but you can not get the main menu when you launch the game with SKSE. That can be a problem in C++ dll's. Try reinstall the C++ libraries in 32 and 64 bits for Visual C++ Runtime 2010 and 2013. If the game not start whitout SKSE can be a problem in the video driver. Try look in that way.

Psalam Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 Spoiler Something is causing this and any and all "fixes" doesn't really address the root issue. Sorry about dropping the ball on the link. GM did indeed provide the link that I meant. What doing the steps in that link do is more (at least from Windows10' perspective) than fixing ENB. It impacts the way Windows10 deals with games. This is the reason, I believe, that it has "cured" rather than "fixed" my issues with Windows10. It may or may not work for you but it was a Godsend for me.

I did find the post down a bit by Sukid re: making a D3D9.ini file, along with using the injector version of enbseries.dll interesting though. Just might give that a shot. I've gotten pretty good now at reinstalling the game and most mods rather quickly. I'm back up again - but still don't know why shit is happening. Arrgghh. Guess we'll just have to see how long this install last for. ?

I am no programmer (talk to GM and Grey Cloud) but it was THAT part that seemed to do the trick for me. Working on it from the Skyrim side never appeared to help he either.

The minute I first turned on my rig and saw Cortina I thought, "OK, get rid of this stupid, "Help me I'm An Idiot" type-crap!".

Well, that's a lot more of that "type-crap" lurking in Windows10 in the pre-loaded Games apps.

I did disable the touch keyboard thing and the game bar, but haven't really explored the "games" area. Perhaps out of fear. ?

Tell me about it. When I had to buy a new computer and went to Best Buy (because I was under the misimpression that I could just take in the old one, buy a new one, get them to transfer all my files, and walk out) I was there every day (and sometimes called also) while I waited for my machine (and game).

LMFAO! Wow...I hate to say this Psalam, but that's kinda "I just got off the banana boat" type stuff. LOL! If life were only that easy... Some folks at Best Buy are knowledgeable, but most of them have trouble putting shit in a bag.

Virtually everything I've learned relating to modding (hardware, software, mods, etc.) has come in just that way. It's a part of the reason I spend time trying to help people on the threads - so they DON'T have to go through some of those things. I know from experience that the people I look up to on the threads weren't born with great knowledge, they have worked hard to get to where they do what they do. I'm sure it wasn't any easier for them than it has been for me. However, you can learn to do a lot of things if you're just persistent (i.e., stubborn).
