Ark of Truth Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Modders who don't share their creations do so for a reason. Maybe it was made with undistributable resources' date=' like stuff ripped from other games or media. Maybe its still a work in progress, and the images are just a progress report of what they've done so far. Maybe they are hypercritical of their own work and don't consider it worthy of distribution yet. There are any number of reasons for not sharing, but there are ZERO reasons for us as mod users to be rude about it. As demonstrated by the post above mine, simply asking can reveal a lot and possibly get them to share with you. If not what they made, then the resources to make your own. [/quote'] The point is not whether they share. The thing we are actually discussing is whether they should post screenshots of work that would never be published. and we're saying it's up to us what we post and show people not you. Why can't you guys understand that? Just because it doesn't get published doesn't that it wasn't going to be at the time of that posting. I've made mods which were going to go up, posted some screenshots and at the last moment disappointed everybody due to one of the authors revoking permission for me to use their mod. Bottom line is you cannot control what modders post regardless if it's mods or screenshots of mods. You will only piss them of to the point they will no longer release ANYTHING. Now seriously quit you complaining and be grateful for the stuff you do get.

What people are complaining right now is someone posted a screenshot featuring an armor that is not available anywhere then someone showed up and ask where he could get that mod. Then the author just popped up and said no, he is not releasing it to anyone. Who is pissed off do you think? It became a lose lose situation when it could be a win win situation. If you are not releasing the mod then keep it to yourself. Enjoy the mod you make yourself instead of coming up here and pissing off others. If your mod is in progress and someone stops you from releasing it. Yes, people may get angry but it's not your fault. You didn't intentionally create that kind of chaos. Someone already talked about this. Please see the above posts. He probably explained way better than I did anyway.

dobmc Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Woah never realized Arky had joined this argument. But goddamn you're name is so symbolic. Well nothing bad with that. But... Why don't we stop being rational and have some fun? Booze or boobs anyone? I'm thankful of the modding community anyways

I'm thankful of the modding community anyways Been here since page 4 I don't like it when users complain about other modders when they have no idea what they are going about. If I was the site staff I'd lock this thread before modders start to lose their cool, either that or modders start locking the mod downloads.

What folks like Jimhsu said is where it is at (see his above post). If you as a mod maker don't wish to be bombarded by folks asking about how to get something in your screenshot then you damn sure should NOT be posting that screenshot on a gaming forum. What is so hard to see understand here? Now if you are posting something to an "art" website like Deviant Art then that is a totally different scenario and you or anyone else are free to post anything you like without issue since it is "art". On a gaming forum posting a screenshot is pretty much considered "advertising". It is showing off what you made, and folks are going to ask how to obtain it and you had best be ready for that. If you don't want the hassle then don't post the screenshot to a gaming forum. Just because he said no and didn't explain why he said it doesn't mean that there was not a issue with a resource used in it. Just because a certain hair is in that screenshot he made does not mean that is what he is advertising. At the end of the day you can't force us to upload stuff we don't want to share. After all why should I gave my custom made stuff to ungrateful users who complain and don't even say thank you. Yes, folks do need to be grateful but that in no way excuses a mod maker (or screenshot poster) from being an ass. Again, if you are posting screenshots for stuff on a gaming forum, be ready to share or be prepared to accept the criticism along with the compliments. At the bare minimum if you can't share for some valid reason, then post how you made the items so others can follow your footsteps. The whole discussion is about context. What you "should" post and where. What applies to one situation does not obviously apply to another. Note I said "should" as I am not advocating "controlling" mod makers, but rather offering up some advice on how not to put themselves into a loose, loose situation. Bottom line this is about common courtesy from all parties, mod makers, screenshot posters, and everyone else.
Ark of Truth Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Come on Greg, We both know this is still an attempt to get modders to release their mods they don't to share through complaining about it.
gregathit Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Come on Greg' date=' We both know this is still an attempt to get modders to release their mods they don't to share through complaining about it. [/quote'] Well, having read the majority of the posts in this thread, I just don't see it that way. Some may think that but the majority I don't think do. Of course I don't consider myself as a mod maker but rather just a normal user, so that effects my perspective. Besides, any attempt to force the hand of a modder is doomed to miserable failure. A person would get more fulfillment pounding sand.

You are still not getting it... sigh... We are not forcing you to share. We are hoping you guys not to frustrate people with screenshots with mods that are not available anywhere. Someone made a good point here. This is a gaming website. And there is even a place for sharing mods. People will hope that you share stuff with them and so that they can play with your mod in their games. It's fine by me if you don't want to share but you have to expect the reactions from them just as much as how they need to think about your feelings. This is mutual, not one sided. On a art website, you're just displaying art to people who see that picture as a piece of art. No one plays the game and wants that in the game. Truly hope you understand this time. This thread is not about ranting at all. We need to have moderation on a forum you know.
lostrabi Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I would honestly say this thread is going to explore a dark place and emotions are going to make bad things happen. Walk away Id say. I rather not lose talented modders but the one complaining about how much he wants some thing he cant get. We could all just slaughter some random npcs and repent on our sins and transgressions.

There are Aesthetic, Combat, Funny, Misc, Poses and MODS categories. You can't really say modder is advertising his mod unintentionally or something when the category of his image is not set to mods.
javamonsoon Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I don't really care if modders share or not; most mods nowadays require you to have other mods. There's only so many mods you can use anyway, and when you skip the landslide of mods that require Apachii, what's left is basically not worth it. (That is, a waste of the modder's time and a waste of the time of the end-user.) Good mods are few and far between and when you secly look at it, there's only a handful of modders out there that do something that's truly worth having in your game. What I detest are those modders that really have a good idea, post a WIP and then state that they'll only finish it when they get enough (usually an undefined) number or likes of endorsements. So they're actually expecting me to download some unfinished stuff that is still in the crap-stage and then they want their willies sucked for it. The whole notion that we downloaders should not have anything to say because what's on offer is free is deplorable. It's the main reason why we have to wade through a veritable ocean of crap to get to something worth having, all rooted in the very fact that someone with the CK and a half-working understanding of it can do something minor, call it a mod, post it and walk away smelling like a rose. Sharing may be caring, but I don't care for turd.

Are you going to try to tell me that the crapxus images section is "Art"? It is still a gaming site and gamers are the ones who frequent it. Gamers have a different mindset than someone browsing Deviant Art or a similar website. Most gamers are browsing for ideas on how to improve their game. Context is king, as I have repeatedly stated tell I feel like a broken record. If you post to a gaming forum you'd had best expect folks to ask where they can get what they see in your screenshot. If you can't handle that then I advise you not to post that screenshot there. Post it to a website that isn't a gaming forum but rather an "art" forum. It will be better for everyone (yourself included). Again, I am NOT excusing normal users to abuse screenshot posters. Those who abuse modders should be dragged outside and have the trunk monkey sicced on them (if you never have seen the trunk monkey commercials you are really missing out - just google it). At the same time, those who post screenshots need to use common sense and common courtesy as well. To borrow that worn out saying: "Can't we all just get along?"

It may have gotten taken down though. Edit: If I remember right it's not titled as super ugly, but instead they titled it something along the lines of prettier or beautiful just for troll points. I remember comments being positive though, and lulz being had. So it may still be there.
