Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong section. I have been having so many problems with Skyrim SSE (especially after Bethesda keeps screwing up the game with every update) 4th totally fresh install, all updated clean installed mods, new fresh game, and I still get CTD's or worse a total system crash, ripping my hair out! Anyway off now, will check back tomorrow, last chance saloon to get SSE working... If that doesn't work then going back to Oldrim! Not a large amount of mods either, and none that mess with the base game.

You can stop updates to SE by limiting updates to a very narrow band of hours that you definitely won't be playing it.  Then only load Steam in offline mode and set it to update only when you play it.  Using SKSE64 should prevent you from ever playing through the Steam client and triggering that.   Once you've set up your Skyrim game, set your Skyrim folder in Documents folder to Read Only.

Another way is to make the steam manifest file for Skyrim SSE read only. (i.e. the 'appmanifest_489830.acf' in your steamapps folder ). Steam application can't write to it then and therefore doesn't start the update.

You can also turn off automatic updates to prevent the game from being updated.

Another way to do it is to set your game to "only update until launched" and then always run Steam then SKSE through your mod manager. Just don't do it the other way around otherwise it will update guaranteed.

Do you have any details other than you're having crashes? Such as loaded mods, system specs, versions?

I don't think I have ever had a total system crash from using any version of Skyrim.

I don't see a big difference between SSE and oldrim. Better working and difference from x64 but only that. I see around the net that there is a huge mod problem for SSE/mods so i stick to the oldrim. You should also do that Mombasa69.
To turn off update function in steam, they force you to update now or never..thats the way they learn from google it is pointless but helpful for short time.

This indicates an issue with the system rather than modded Skyrim.

 

Modded Skyrim will prove a severe test to most systems which means it may be triggering critical problems that other games don't. Corrupt or outdated graphics driver would be the first stop, failing drive, temps, corrupt Windows install, bad memory stick, bad graphics card, PSU, MoBo, etc.
