SE vs Skyrim?

So, I'm doing a fresh install of Skyrim, and I'm kinda curious as to what the beneficial differences between Special Edition and regular ol' Skyrim are.

I know Skyrim has a lot more mods than SE which might be a defining factor (Especially since I'm probably going to pump it full of Sexlab stuff for uh immersion), but I'm not sure as to whether SE has better exclusive mod content (Both adult and non-adult), or any actual beneficial fixes to the base game that can't just be done with mods or fixes.

From what I've seen it's just Skyrim with an ENB and some pretty graphics, but are there any actual technical changes that'd make SE more beneficial to play?

My understanding is that yes, for the moment, it does have less mods available, but its important to note that Skyrim is an old game, with some built in resource limits that mods can't get around. You can have tons of scripts running, or have an amazing looking Skyrim, but not both if you want stability. There is wiggle room to make things work but its a constant balancing act. SE has a higher resource limit, and better optimized textures so they take less memory for the same quality. You still can go overboard on scripts or textures but balancing them to stay stable is much easier.

Or so I hear.

EDIT: I primarily use regular Skyrim at the moment, I'm waiting for Sexlab SE to stabilize and then a few specific mods to be ported over.

SE is generally more stable and much better able to handle heavier script loads and many more NPCs in one place.  Skyrim has a very large number of memory patches, speed boosts, etc that makes most of the current advantages of SE mostly irrelevant.  Mods for SE are catching up more but need people playtesting them to speed the progress along.  Bit of a cath 22 at the moment.

Bottom line if you want tried and true go with old Skyrim.  If you don't mind helping getting everything up to scratch then SE is definitely at a point where it can be fairly enjoyable.

The biggest advantage that 32-bit Skyrim has over 64-bit Skyrim is that, since it is complete (as far as BGS is concerned), it will never be updated again. That means that SKSE will never need to be updated anymore.

I second mercplatypus' statement regarding stability.

I crashed constantly while modding Oldrim. Did everything I could to get a stable game going with the mods I had installed.
Multiple times I've had saves just stop working and refuse to load out of no where, crashing immediately.

So, I made the switch to SE (which i already owned but never played). I quickly realized how much more stable it seemed to be. I could stack mod after mod with not even a single crash for a pretty long time. Havent had any major issues with my saves, even though I've been installing and uninstalling mods. After weeks of Oldrim struggles this is like a breath of fresh airrrr, modding SE. T_T
