ChancellorKremlin Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I actually find it easier to create characters using the startup showracemenu effect the game gives you at the beginning, than using GECK. In fact, I'm hating it. My NPC is looking like some weird paled out Orangutan that wouldn't be out of place on Dr.Moreau's island. Or, any way to use PC faces created ingame and import them to the GECK?

I think there is a way with Wrye to import faces from savegames to esps. But I never tried that.
DoctaSax Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Haven't tested, so no guarantees: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35769 should show you how to transfer face data from save to another record with FNVEdit http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/36471 should be a prog like faceexchange lite or something but apparently comes without a tutorial wrye had that sort of functionality in wrye bash for oblivion but I don't think it's in wrye flash for nv

It's taking me nearly ten times as long to create one character using GECK, when I could have made loads using the good ol' robco reflectron! The option is there, tho. Didn't know about that ripper program. Might give it a shot myself and revive some old heroes as NPCs. Never got FaceExchange to work.
ChancellorKremlin Posted October 8, 2012 Author Posted October 8, 2012 Hmmn, both those tools seem to be just to exchange the face from one save to another, which isn't what I want to do. I either want to be able to create faces ingame and then use them from within geck to make NPC's, or use another tool (similar to showracemenu) to make them.

[/quote'] You can use Singular Inversions FaceGen and then one of the face ripper utilities supports .fg files exported by FaceGen. My Oblivion mod Fix for Head06 Grin contains a text file called How To Do This Yourself.txt which contains instructions for how to properly load a Beth head into FaceGen. Think FaceGen Exchange for NV supports .fg files. As far as I know, the trial version of FaceGen saves .fg files so you don't need to purchase the full FaceGen. BTW, FaceGen from SI is the technology the game uses that Beth licensed from SI. This is what Riven1978 used for the mod Riven's Famous People which contains a buttload of .fg files of celebrities.
ChancellorKremlin Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 Thanks astymma I know this means I can use facegen in lieu of the GECK, but by having a read of your tutorial, would I be able to acquire the EGT, EGM, TRI and DDS from the PC head I have in one save, to then import it into facegen and then back out again so the GECK would use it? Or would doing that be impossible? CK

Or would doing that be impossible? CK [/quote'] Using those files in FaceGen is just a requirement to load a head in FaceGen. None of that information is actually exported with the .fg file. All that's exported are the slider settings in the .fg file. Basically, in FaceGen, you load your head... edit the sliders to come up with something you like... export an fg file. Then you use FaceGen exchange to inject the .fg file's contents... not sure if it allows injecting into an esp/esm or just into save files or if it allows cut/paste of the hexcodes of the facial settings. As for the head files, unless you're using a custom head, all the nif/egm/egt/tri/dds files are the same for every NPC. The NPC may use a mask over the top of that but unless the NPC is using a race with its own folder containing a custom head and/or head texture all NPCs use the default head and head texture. faceGen has nothing to do with all that, the RACE entry in the esp/esm handles what head files are used. Masks are sometimes used to personalize an NPC and they would be in data/textures/facemods/filename/texturename.dds with vanilla NPCs in /data/textures/facemods/FalloutNV.esm/ as an example. There are also body masks in data/textures/bodymods/filename/texturename.dds as well. Unless you meant something else (and yes I'm...er.. verbose... hehe).
ChancellorKremlin Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 No problem in being verbose Astymma, I'm often verbose all the time lol. Actually, I think I've found a solution which I think doctasax either hinted or in my stupidity was outright alluding to. I've used FO3/FNV Save Face Ripper to get the info on my PC's face from that save, and opening FNV edit, I'm basically going to overwrite the original info with my save one (as outlined in the screenies below) http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35769 Only problem I've found so far is that FNVedit won't, well, allow me to edit anything. I've taken Ada Strauss as the target, but whenever I'm in the facegen data bit (having loaded only FNV) it won't allow me to delete or add anything to the dialogue box. I'm new to FNVedit by the way, so I've probably screwed something up.
KainsChylde Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 In my signature, go to the thread about making your game work. In that thread there's a link to the FNVEdit training manual. Why they didn't just package it with the program I'll never understand. I'd just post the link directly but I'm mobile, which makes linking a pain.
ChancellorKremlin Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 Thanks KS, I'm going to start reading it properly now that I downloaded. I've actually figured out a solution to the problem. What was proposed in my previous post worked, I opened up my original esp (the one I'm trying to create NPC's in) and this time I was able to edit the info got from Save Face Ripper and insert it into there. Saved, opened the esp in GECK and voila! Perfect swap. It looks like Amy and Crassus Wayne will be fully fledged NPC's after all!

The standard duble-click entry dialogue is too small and will truncate the text entry field.
ChancellorKremlin Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 I know, having zilch experience with FNVedit, I knew there was something I was doing wrong. I thought I was doing the shitft + double click process, but I wasn't. When I got it right it worked like a charm. Nice to know I can use the game to make my NPC faces, I just don't like the GECK - sometimes less is more. Not always, but sometimes
