Can't enter Markath mid playthrough

I have a lot of mods installed, I was trying to test sister of dibella mod and I noticed a bit of a problem:

If I use LAL to start me in Markath inn, I have no problem

If I start any other locationb (traditionally hunting in the woods option) I crash upon trying to enter markath world cell.

Is there any vanilla that would cause ctd upon entering if you didn't go the main quest until whiterun first?

I had a similar "bug" with ASLAL- I chose the Riverwood start, then after doing Camilla's little quest involving her two boyfirends, I got the BFB quest from her brother and headed straight to Whiterun to get the BFB quest from Farengar so I could kill two birds with one stone. I cleared BFB and turned in the Lucas Valerius quest, then opened my map to fast-travel to Whiterun and discovered that there was no Whiterun map marker and I had not "discovered" Whiterun despite having had the encounter with the guards at the gate and run all the way through the town on my way up to Dragonsreach!

After hours of troubleshooting the missing map marker, I discovered two things:

1. This is such a common occurrence that someone has actually made a mod to place a new Whiterun map marker

2. My mistake was ignoring the ASLAL quest objective when I first "woke up" in Riverwood- it clearly told me to run back to Helgen and enter the back door to meet Ralof (or presumably the Imperial pig for people who choose to side with the anuses who just tried to chop your head off for no reason whatsoever.) By skipping that step, I broke the game and never "Discovered" Whiterun.

By now you're thinking "Nice story, Vyx, but what does it have to do my inability to enter Markarth?" Well, I'm suggesting that you need to look in your journal and find the ASLAL quest you probably skipped, and finish it. Then try to enter Markarth again. :classic_biggrin::classic_heart:

You don't actually have to help them- you will be guided to the EXIT from Helgen underground and go in there to meet up with (whichever) and if it's Ralof, walk with him to Riverwood. I don't know where the Imperial dude will go with you, I have never in all my playthroughs sided with the Empire. I just can't bring myself to hobnob with the buttwipes who tried to remove my head for absolutely no reason other than I was there. :classic_angry:

I play regliar Skyrim and many a time I have 'discovered' Whiterun when I was about to exit the main gates. Can't recall ever having a problem with Markarth. I use ASLAL, he adds belatedly.

Both go to riverwood, the imperial is the brother of the blacksmith I think.

Welp, nope, accompanied Ralof and tried to go to Markarth, ctd upon entering the cell.

I wish fraking skyrim's logs were actually usefull to find what's the cause.

Two questions:

1. Do you have Racemenu64 and SkyHUD both installed? If so, proceed to question #2. If not, ignore me and have a great day. :classic_rolleyes:

2. Exactly where does your CTD occur? You said "entering the cell" but since I can't see any handy signs saying "Entering New Cell" anyplace in Skyrim, I need to know where your CTD occurs. If it's as you enter the "load doors" to Markarth, I may have a solution for you. If it's somewhere else, I have no clue.

1. I do have racemenu, IHUD and mHUD, skyhud tho? what's that?

2. I'll try to explain a bit then:

  1. I press e at Markarth Main Entrance Door
  2. Loading screen appear (the smoke only one)
  3. Just as it's about to finish loading and show Markarth, it CTD (supposing that either an event or something it try to display make it crash)

There is a "fatal conflict" (translation: CTD) between SkyHUD (and possibly other HUD mods) and the Racemenu64 installation- Racemenu64 stealth installs Expired's "Floating Health Bars" mod. You will CTD any time you come into "bow range" range of any hostile entity, which is when the Floating Health Bars are triggered.

When you first enter Markarth, there is a Forsworn guy just about to stab Margret, and he becomes a hostile entity when he attacks her, triggering the crash when you load into the city. You need to manually delete the FHB files:

    Data\Interface\Exported\hud_extension.swf
    Data\Interface\Exported\hud_extension_config.txt
    Data\Interface\Exported\meter.swf
    Data\SKSE\Plugins\hudextension.dll

See if you have those files and (back them up first, then) remove them if you do. Then try to enter Markarth again.

I did, tried without those, still crashed...

I guess there's only one method left: disable and try each of my installed mods (it will take a lot of time tho)

I'll report here if I find what's the cause.

I remember reading about a similar crash (couldn't enter Makarth) because something was stuck on the Amorous Adventures quest involving Annekke, Sylgja and Dibellan Priestess Senna. I can't remember if it was on the Amorous Adventures thread or the Flower Girls thread, but it was on the Nexus and it was at least a couple of months ago. Just throwing that out there, I don't even know if you have AA installed, but it's the only other similar problem I've read about.
