KonradSimon Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 Where is the best place for a beginner (not at modding, just at USING the damned things) to ask for help? I've read some of the basics on load order, FNIS, skeleton at the end, and it's all generated some questions. Where's the best place to ask?
coldblackcoffee Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 you can start from /r/skyrimmods 's sidebar https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/
oldrayzor Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 Basically we're everywhere. Read up and dive -in. Worst to happen is you'll get ignored a time or two. Welcome.

Psalam Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 Since you're here on Loverslab (which from now on you will only see as LL) I assume you know the very basics of modding. I assume you've loaded and tried a few things from Nexus. Now you're looking for some adult oriented stuff. Further, I assume you are interested in modding Skyrim specifically since this is where you posted. This site is very much like Nexus (I know, I'm already hearing the groans - ignore them, you'll get the differences with time). If you have general questions you post them on these threads (as you have done). Many of the things that you might want to know already have (or have had) a thread. You will find dozens, even hundreds of questions that have already been answered including some terrific walk-throughs. Skyrim General Discussion and Skyrim Technical Support will be your biggest help. LL has just had a site upgrade which has made it marginally slower but has significantly improved the Search engine. Don't be afraid to use it. Go up there type in what you want and select from the drop down where you want it to look. Pretty good chance you'll find what you're looking for there. If that doesn't work then post a thread, just as you have done. There are a LOT of very smart people on this site who are willing to share their time. Do please be polite (I note that you know how to say thank you - don't forget it with time). The people here do what they do because they love modding - they are not being paid - so please show them the courtesy they deserve. Once you find a mod that interests you go that mod's page. Their will be a download button - press it. There are often multiple versions of the mod listed - almost always the ONLY thing you need for the mod is the last one (lowest down) listed. If you have a problem or question with the mod go back to the modpage and press the Get Support button. It works the same way this thread does. Simply ask your question and wait. If you are patient and polite (or at least not rude) you are likely to get a (relatively) prompt and (definitely) useful response. When you are responding to something that someone else has said please hit the quote button. That will give them a notification. I will do this to you when I am otherwise finished so that you can see what I mean. Anyway, this is the introduction that I wish I had when I was still wet behind the ears. Hope it helped. 17 minutes ago, KonradSimon said: Thanks!
KonradSimon Posted May 27, 2018 Author Posted May 27, 2018 Okay, let me dive in with a couple of basic questions. First, any technical problem requires showing one's load order (I think the one on the right-hand side of MO). What's the best way to capture that? Screen shot? Second, I want to run down my, for lack of a better word, process when I've added or removed a mod: 1. Run Duel Sheath Redux Patch via MO. 2. Run LOOT (I've just been hitting the "sort" button in MO) 3. Run FDIS for users. 4. Step 3 invariably generates a warning--"there are files in your overwrite mod"--so I A) Remove a mod at the end of my load called FNISover B) Create a mod by clicking on the "create mod" in the "overwrite" section of MO and name it FNISover C) Turn on that newly created mod 5. Play the game. I have around 60 mods, and the game is working pretty well--doing most of what I want it to do, with just a few little issues here and there. Am I doing extra steps I don't need to? Am I missing steps I should take? Or is this a reasonable way to do things? As I said, things are mostly working (especially since I finally figured out that Further Lover's Comfort and Immsersive Beds don't play well together, and removed the latter). Thanks for your patience in reading this.

That is exactly the advice I was looking for. Thank you! (In particular, "almost always the ONLY thing you need for the mod is the last one (lowest down) listed" is extremely useful, and solves a certain amount of confusion right there).

If you have other questions feel free to contact me specifically off the threads. Just clicking on my (non-existent) avatar will take you to my profile. There is a box there where you can ask a public question specifically of me. Use it as a last resort. Don't let yourself get frustrated and overwhelmed (I did). This is meant to be fun and most of the people here understand an appreciate that. They also, like me, remember what it's like to be a noob. Have fun and you're welcome! Two things I would be remiss if I didn't mention. First, on the very bottom of every page in blue letters on the left is a note that says "View Community Rules." There is no rocket science in there but it is better to know early than late (like I did). Second, on the very bottom of every page in blue letters on the right is a note that says "Help support LoverLab." This will take you to Patreon where you can, if you want, give a donation the supports this website. Two things about that. One the money goes to support this website. Not a penny goes to the many modders who put in countless hours making these mods so that we can play them for free. While they are a minority some modders will include a way to donate to them on their modpage. If you find something you love and they have that available, I would encourage you to use it. Two there exists no other method to financially support LoversLab. There's no place to send a check or use a credit card. I don't make any of these rules but it took months to find that out so this is all simply FYI. No one here cares whether you ever donate or not - I just want to make you aware of the mechanism should you desire to do so. Again, have fun!

First, any technical problem requires showing one's load order (I think the one on the right-hand side of MO). What's the best way to capture that? Screen shot? Load order or mod list for mo is pretty easy, open the directory where you installed mo, from there find the profiles directory, in that directory there should be directories for each profile you have, if you are just playing around it may be just called default, in there is a file called loadorder.txt that is the file you want if asked for load order. If somebody asks you for your mod list then go to the same place and look for a file called modlist.txt, however before you post it copy it and run it through this webpage, https://www.miniwebtool.com/reverse-lines/ Then post the output that website generates, that is assuming you are sorting your mod list from top 0 being the main game files down to the overwrite folder at the botton, as for some reason mo does not keep things in that order when creating the text file, it stores them with the overwrite in effect being at the top of the page when viewing it, which makes reading it a bit of a pain. If posting either of those on here, post them in spoilers, if you look at the area where you type there should be a black eye type icon click that and it will open a new text box, paste the required text from those files into that then hit ok, if you preview it, there should then be a spoilers block in your post and when you click it will then open up the full text you pasted into it.

Yeah, alas, as you say, there's no setup for a one-time donation. But I did ask about that, and Ashal was kind enough to supply me with the information I needed to kick a few bucks in. And offer much appreciated.

Thanks for your patience in reading this. using MO you do not have to go through that entire process listed for step 4 you can replace step 4 with just drag and drop into the FNISover mod with the new FNIS output that is in overwrite and just overwrite the previous files this is a screenshot of mine, the folder i use is labeled FNIS Output, i just drag and drop the new FNIS run from overwrite into that folder and say yes to overwrite when it asks. this does the same as your step 4, without the hassle of remove the mod, then create a new mod. if you choose this method (your method will work fine) just remember to only put your FNIS outputs into that mod. p.s to use spoiler tags use the example below but remove the * symbol [spoil*er] text in spoiler [/spoil*er] if you have any questions and are overwhelemed or lost you can also send me a pm and i will try to help (or at least direct you where to find the help you need). to send a pm click the avatar and then on the profile page click the message button. it may take me time depending on other thing to respond but i will try to help where i can.
