Ajn1cxlv o

Plotrue8 o

???: And there's no blood. That's good. I should find whoever did this and thank them, I owe them that much at least.

L83k3d04 o

???: Well I can walk, that's progress. But progress would be my saviour getting rid of that awful hair and beard. What was his name again? Lance?

Tatadbzr o

Lance: Awful? Really?

W5sxvbcg o

Lance: But perhaps it is about time I got a haircut.

Twnfirh9 o

Jaypcz5b o

???: Huh? What? Damn the door.

Bdujfo2g o

???: Uhh...good morning.

Oh1jaq8k o

Lance: Good morning I guess...Look can I come in and talk. As nice as you seem I don't like strangers in my home.

Idakyotm o

???: Well can you give me a few minutes to sort out my hair, you didn't exactly leave it alone?

2inuijhr o

Lance: You're right, but it's kind of urgent.

Js683r9e o

Lance: And I need to check your wounds. They are quite severe.

4i74ak9p o

???: Fine I'll be ready as soon as I can!

Aa2pwjvt o

???: Damn what am I supposed to do with this?

Ymuufwzg o

Lance: Ready?

Ljvcr8c4 o

???: Uh yeah, sorry for the wait

X183qefz o

Lance: No need to apologise, I'm patient enough.

U8a92ddn o

Lance: Anyway you've had a tough time, you didn't stop rolling about in bed for a few hours. I thought they might have been death throes.

Ohk6vkat o

???: Woah sorry, sorry, I didn't mean to-

Z0vsnleo o

???: I'm so sorry!

79bwl8mw o

Lance: Wha-

Fxs4ugo5 o

Lance: Don't worry about it you know, as I said, you've had a tough time.

M6b9e7q8 o

???: Thank you, I owe you-

8kyvdta7 o

Lance: You don't owe me a thing. Besides I have to do some good at some point. Anyway, we need to talk.

Bpmymqty o

???: Sure come in.

Qdfwmps1 o

Lance: So what's your name?

Fvm4xukg o

???: Uhh...

Ifyptgr6 o

???: I don't really remember.

26trzefa o

Lance: That's fine, I think I'll give you a new name then. Well I found you at night...

Voc2shjm o

Lance: ...Luna, that sounds good.

A0ny72zk o

Luna: Luna? That sounds okay.

J6lvqlgb o

Lance: You could look a little happier for it.

Swvnsrai o

Lance: Never-mind I think you were just uncomfortable. So Luna right?

Regoxq9t o

Luna: Yeah Luna, that sounds good.

Hylvoocq o

Lance: So, Luna, I think I should get you out of the house, being in here won't do you any good.

Kqlg9bzy o

Lance: So if you'd like to get ready, I'm going to take you hunting. There should be things in the wardrobe and make sure to bring a bow, there's one by the door.

J46iny2p o

Luna: Okay then sir, I'll see you outside.

Smpwvxqq o

Luna: It's a shame there isn't anything better in here, but something is better than nothing.

Xq06ymja o

Luna: Mhmm, this is nice but the poncho is a bit much, besides we're going hunting. I need my arms free.

Qfc4pjwu o

Luna: This is...colder, but better. I think. Now where did he say that bow was?

Stwjxxuk o

Spoiler

Lance: So you found the bow then, lets get going. It's already fairly late.

C3mnsd9o o

Luna: How long are we going to be out sir?

Omvn5yyp o

Lance: Please call me Lance. Sir is a little too...formal for me.

Tavzokbb o

Lance: Now come on, lets have some fun.

Gryyej1j o

An hour or so later...

Lance: That's it, just lower the elbow a little bit.

Trtiruc1 o

Lance: Now keep an eye on the meat, I mean prey.

In95lvme o

Luna: Like this?

50qvjc4i o

Cathung!

Nj93uvbs o

Luna: Dammit! Sorry, I...

2o6796fs o

Lance: It's fine, the horker didn't notice. Now try again.

M72si8r1 o

Cathung!

Luna: Please hit...

5dty5du3 o

Wheeeww!

Ohfv0393 o

Lance: Huh, good shot kiddo.

Et6msl8c o

Lance: Almost as good as my sister was on her first few tries.

Bqodau18 o

Luna: Almost?

Nwrls2it o

Lance: I'll tell you tomorrow at some point, right now we need to make camp and get that meat cooking.

Ejfigncg o

A few hours later, in the early night...

Awoooooo!

Q8wmjgj7 o

Luna: Can they not shut up?!

Ykwr3odl o

Luna: And where the hell is Lance?

Itkrc4lv o

Luna: What was that?

Ffeu4eed o

Luna: I'm sure it was nothing, Lance won't be far I'm sure.

O66cyanp o

Awwoooooooo!

Od1magld o

Luna: Dammit I hope Lance is okay, he still isn't back.

Bxyssemo o

Luna: Wait! What the- Help!

Jvtm7opj o

Werewolf: {Snarling}

2jrsyylt o

Luna: No! Please!

Plijkir1 o

Spoiler

Luna: Zzzzz

Azbote46 o

Lance: Hell what a night. No surprise she's not awake. But when writhing like that, I think more sleep is definitely needed.

2f2sqsp7 o

Lance: Well that's strange. The wounds have healed, that's something I've only ever seen on-

Llhyuv6p o

Luna: {Yawn} Good morning.

Cm3cxt4j o

Lance: Good morning, how'd you sleep. It didn't sound too good.

Suk45n4p o

Luna: Fine, apart from a weird dream.

Dd8bk4iq o

Lance: What was it about then?

Qs8tzg3z o

Lance: I mean you can't have been writhing for no reason.

Bmlbzgw4 o

Luna: I'd rather not talk about it if that's okay.

Axss88ja o

Lance: Are you sure we have plenty of time?

Hfv0q8xq o

Lance: In fact, no. I want to know how you grew up, who you grew up with?

Qrzijbip o

Luna: Well...I don't remember.

I2b30qwm o

Luna: But I'd like to think that I was a princess. Losing her fortune. Escaping her home within an inch of her life and meeting a lowly hunter.

Dnez5usj o

Luna: Who'd teach her all that she needed to know to survive on her own.

54htkyzl o

Luna: Then she'd grow up with them, having the hunter as her father and his wife as her mother.

Ydm2b2ms o

A few minutes later...

Gitzlf3w o

Luna: But what about you? Who'd you grow up with?

6cklhwbl o

Lance: Me? Well I grew up with two siblings. An older brother, he was an ass. Said I was always too cautious. I don't know where he is now, then my sister came along. With a few other pups- I mean siblings. She was the only survivor, but I taught her about shooting. My pa was too old and my mother was the same to teach them.

W5bzpok0 o

Lance: Me and my sister spent lots of time together, hell we were the only ones in the house most of the time. So we grew to love each other, not bicker like most siblings.

Rjoirq4h o

Lance: Then on her sixteenth birthday she just up and left.

19rrfu8h o

Luna: I'm sorry I-

Nmmh6okq o

Lance: Don't be sorry, it was nothing you did.

Zhr3zf8d o

Luna: Thanks for telling me, I wish I had something to tell you about.

Mjim3k7y o

Lance: You will once you remember. I'm sure it won't be that long.

Rijyt5o9 o

Luna: Thank you, that means a lot.

Z7n1a3lv o

Later that night...

Biqg11oo o

Lance: C'mon get some rest, today was tiring, you deserve a rest.

Rijtwfxi o

Luna: Fine if you say so. I'll see you in the morning Lance.

Kwacz5qd o

Lance: Good night pumpkin.

Bj8m5xr7 o

Luna: Good night...

Zcpaexl1 o

Spoiler

Luna: Zzzzz...zzzzz

45kwdcrb o

Luna: What?! Where am I? Why am I here?

O52twjfj o

Luna: Oww!

B6lkptcs o

Luna: What's happening to me?!

Jtjykvmd o

Luna: {Growling}

Thanks for reading, this series won't come out as often as I'd like to do some custom poses for it and other things. So this is something different than Shea's story. It also allows me a break from the same theme, so I don't get bored. But anyway, thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed it!

Ok this may just be an issue on my side but the images are only half loading, meaning I have half a head to work with.

I'll try again later, the internet here is not the best at this time of morning.

Great job, definitely your best entry so far and a very interesting end.

I'm looking forward for the next one.

Thank you, turns out planning things properly does great. But thank you very much!

I think it is an issue on your side, try again later, but they've been shoved to jpegs so I can't do anymore, sorry about that.

P.S I had the same issue when I was recently away, but it got fixed when we finally got better internet. My advice don't run anything too internet hungry while loading the page, that worked for me.

I agree with Alter Native, this entry had a storyline with slowly unraveling mysteries only hinted all along, several plots (Luna's unknown origins, the werewolf mystery, Lance's whereabouts, the relationship between Lance and Luna) , the characters are interesting, Though the dialogues are less refined/worked upon than in your usual entries, the direction and scenario are clearly better. So awaiting for more ! ?

Actually depending on your objective, there are still some things you can do. You see, it's the total size of an entry that determines the loading time. So, if you use jpegs instead of png (which is half the size with your preset), but that you double the amount of images, the total loading time will remain the same. So the number of images is to be considered. Smiley_henri_gaud-belin_HFR.gifFrom there, you can make a few different choices :

  • Reduce the amount of images. You're only using one line of dialog per image, sometime a very short one. Maybe using two lines of dialog for some images would help reducing that number when different images aren't really needed. I'd say typical entries range between 50 to 100 images. This one is about 150 images large, so it's bigger than the usual, and people will be more susceptible to notice the impact of mild image management on loading times.
  • Reduce the resolution. Most people won't display the image in 1920*1080, and in fact if not fullscreen, most will have the forum resize it to something like effectively 1280x720. So lowering the resolution a bit could be an idea. To give you some reference, Alter Native uses 1600x900 images for most of his* entries (which do feature 80 to 150 images usually).
  • Reduce the compression a bit. You're using jpeg preset 100, which is 2x smaller than PNG. I'm using preset 95, which is nearly 5 to 7x smaller than PNG. ; and people never complained about having spotted a single compression artifact in my entries. So maybe you could adjust it to get your own compromise (96 ? 97 ?).

You're not forced to do all of those of course, those are just ideas for you to pick in. K5RIBNNq_o.gif

*I said his entries, but according to recent reports from Lady of Hats, it seems that Alter Native is in fact a pony.

Well I'll try and keep the chapter shorter, but considering it was the start of something new, I figured I'd do something a bit longer. Maybe next time it won't be as bad considering the Shea chapters do fine.

The length was good, it's the amount and size of the images that is large.

As for Shea's loading times, they're were acceptable, 'cause they when from horrible to just longer than usual when you switched to jpeg. But they could still use some refining. So I'd consider at least reducing a bit the resolution ± tweaking a bit the compression if I were you, as that's one way to solve the loading issues without affecting your story telling style.

It's because you're a serial server killer, a bandwidth murderer, known for savage persistent pngs-weapon assaults. Though we're trying to get you on hormonal jpeg therapy lately. :classic_angel:
