The Story of the Red Witch
Chapter Eight: Thinning the Herd
After the two of them calmed down, Silas placed Liri down and pressed her against the wall.
Silas: Listen… You’re going to be tested soon, from my clan and outside sources. I’ll try to help you as I can, but…
Liri: But whaaat? Why did we stop? Is there a problem?
Silas shook his head and placed his helmet back on.
Silas: Calm yourself. My… scent acts like an aphrodisiac of sorts when I get... excited. Tinira’s idea, the rotten bitch…
Silas: *whispers* But as I was saying, you’re going to be tested. Do your best to not get broken… seeing as Aere is here.
Whatever effect Silas had over Liri suddenly vanished as another took its place…
Liri: L-Lady Aere!? She’s here!?
Silas: ‘Lady Aere?’ What in the world has she done to—
???: Thank you guard for looking after my… pet. But please, leave us. Now…
Liri at looked Silas with pleading eyes, and after a few seconds he went straight into guard mode…
Silas: Sorry ma’am. I’ll leave you to it then. You two stay out of trouble now.
Aere: Of course…
As Silas passed Liri, he whispered…
Silas: Regardless of her hold on you, I’ve given you a gift. Make sure you use it.
After Silas walked off, Aere glared at Liri.
Aere: So, who was that? Hmmm?
Liri: It was just a guard. I… I had needs, so I took care of them.
Aere: LIAR!
Aere raised her hand to strike Liri...
...However when the mage flinched, a smile was brought to the maid's face.
Aere: Heh, so… you do know your place…
Liri: (Dammit all! If I could just use my… wait a second…)
Aere: So… WHO WAS THAT LIRI? AND DON’T LIE TO ME!
Liri closed her eyes and tempered the anger she could feel rising within her.
Liri: It was just a guard.
Aere: Right…
Aere glared at Liri but seeing as the red head seemed to be resolute with her answer, Aere decided to say no more about the matter.
Aere: Anyway we’ve got to get off. The Mistress has been fuming about—
Aere: Wait a second… Where’s your colla—
Without warning Liri blasted Aere with the strongest spell she could muster and sent the maid flying.
Liri: Haaa… haa… My neck still felt tight so I didn’t notice… but… I’m not going to be controlled by you people anymore!
Liri went to find Aere and when she did the maid was motionless, still paralyzed by the effect of her spell.
Liri: Hmph, she’s not dead, but I can’t have people asking questions about her…
Liri lifted the maid and hid her out of plain sight. Afterwards she disrobed, tied up and gagged Aere. When she was done, Liri smiled at the maid's predicament.
Liri: You thought yourself my better. You didn't even have any basic magical resistances. Hiding behind someone else's power... Didn't think you were this pathetic, 'Lady Aere'.
Liri: I’ll do what it takes to take you bastards down. Even if it means wearing something as disgustingly unnecessary as this…
After putting on her new attire, Liri sighed and threw the shoes away.
Liri: For the sake of fooling them I’ll wear these tactless clothes, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to wear heels of any kind! Now be a good girl and wait right here Aere...
Liri: I've got a clan to dismantle.
After getting herself mentally prepared, Liri started back towards Solitude.
Just as she made it back to the Volstikar household, Liri felt an eerie chill in the air…
Liri: (This… this cold… how do I even feel it? This doesn’t bode well… I hope you know what you’re doing Silas…)
Entering the house, Liri immediately came eye to eye with yet another maid, and this one did NOT look pleased.
Liri: (Do their numbers ever end?) H-hi…
???: Were is Aere?
Unlike the previous maids, this one seemed unlikely to be just another pretty face…
Liri: (They made an Orc a slave? This… this isn’t good…) On a mission from the Mistress.
???: I’ve not heard about this ‘mission.’ Why aren’t you with Aere? And those clothes…
Liri: (Look back on this and laugh… look back on this…) L-lady Aere has… succeeded…
A smile appeared on the Orc’s face and Liri could see her physically loosen up.
???: She did, did she? Well damn. This is the third slut in a row for her. Good atta girl!
For a moment Liri let her feelings take over and gave the Orc a disgusted look, but she immediately masked it.
The Orc must not have noticed seeing as she continued without pause…
???: Alright then new meat, the name’s Urzul. Now that you’ve been broken—!!
Urzul: Where’s your collar? I was told that you were given a magic suppressing collar that we were explicitly told to never remove.
The Orc glared at Liri and readied her weapon, which oddly enough was a broom.
Urzul: I won’t ask you again, where is Aere?
Liri: (Haaa… I guess my story about these being magic suppressing clothes isn’t going to work…)
Liri shrugged and began gathering her magicka.
Liri: You girls are good, but a bit too observant for my tastes.
Outraged, Urzul attacked Liri...
...Who despite her lack of close range combat experience was able to keep away from the Orsimer for a while...
But ultimately she wasn’t quite agile enough as an errant swing caught Liri in her back...
...And after garnering a sharp cry from the mage, and sent her reeling.
Urzul: You stupid bitch… and to think the Mistress had high hopes for you…
Urzul lifted her ‘weapon’ over her head and looked down on the Nord.
Urzul: No matter, sluts like you are a dime a dozen.
Urzul: It’s time for you to die!!!
Liri: (NOW!!)
When Urzul’s swing was about to connect, Liri smirked and what followed stunned to Orc to no end…
The blow seemed to never strike Liri, in fact it went right through her!
Then suddenly, her body began to disintegrate...
...Until there was no trace of her before the Orc.
Urzul: W-w-what!? That was just a familiar!? That sneaky little bitc—
Liri: That was no familiar, Orc.
Liri: You Volstikar maids think you've got all the answers... But I'm afraid I've got some bad news! I've changed all the questions!!
Urzul turned to see Liri standing there with magicka oozing from her. She may not have understood magic, but Urzul knew power when she saw it, and knew that whatever Liri had planned was lethal…
Liri: But seriously... Sorry, but one way or the other I’ve got to thin the herd. Blame your Mistress and her godforsaken clan, not me, for your death.
Rather than accept her fate, Urzul leapt at Liri fully intent on striking the Nord down…
But she wasn’t able to get anywhere near close to damaging the mage.
When Liri finally ceased her onslaught she knew there was no turning back.
Knowing that this was going to be just the beginning of her troubles, Liri took a seat and tried to catch her breath.
Liri: Haa… haaa… I tried to act though, but that hit… I never knew a broom could hurt as much as a mace… *sigh* Why are Orcs so strong for no reason…
???: Because they’d be completely useless otherwise.
The mage tensed and then relaxed and then tensed again.
Liri: (It’s a little more than depressing that the lesser of three evils can still invoke so much fear in me…) *sigh* Hello Yslif…
Yslif: Bold, no… bolder than bold. You lied to my brother and you still didn’t bring me my meal after meeting the warrior again… And you speak to me as if I were a commoner?
Liri: She’s no warrior. And I brought you a meal… blame Foran for you not being able to partake in—
Yslif: You DARE!?! I should have your head for that!
Liri: And then Silas would have yours, and I think more than anything you’d hate more than I’d hate mine.
The youngest Volstikar scowled.
Yslif: You mean to tell me that my brother freed you of your bonds? That he’d go against the decree of sister!?!
Liri: I’m telling you that if you kill me, you’ll be dust before my body hits the floor.
Yslif glared at Liri and moved to pounce on her when suddenly she stopped and straightened up.
???: Didn’t my cute little sack of meat tell you NOT to attack her?
Yslif: B-b-brother!!
Silas's glare depleted the younger vampire of all her previous bravado and forced her to divert her eyes.
Yslif: I… I didn’t even—
Silas: ‘You DARE!?! I should have your head for that!’
Silas gave her a wink, and Liri had to stifle a laugh when she saw Yslif wince as he continued to reprimand the younger vampire.
After almost scaring her to death, Silas banished her from his presence and she went off running with tears in her eyes, much to Liri’s pleasure.
When the younger vampire was out of their sights, Silas struck Liri to the ground.
Silas: Who do you think you are to talk to a Volstikar like that?!
Liri was stunned on why Silas had the sudden 180 in attitude towards her, but she looked up at him and saw that he wasn’t looking at her…
But rather at someone behind her…
???: Hmph, looks like you’ve taken a bit of a liking to your little pet. This must be attributing to her uncultured behavior as of late.
That same chill Liri had before when she thought Yslif was someone else returned, but the sound of that voice solidified her fears.
Liri turned around and her heart began to race as she gazed upon Tinira who was standing before her.
She didn’t know why, but subconsciously she gripped onto Silas and could feel her pulse begin to slow.
Tinira: Did you hear that change, dear "brother"? If I didn’t know better, I’d say your little ‘pet’ trusted you, feels safe with you, or maybe… loves you…
Silas sucked his teeth and then sighed.
Silas: You’re just upset that you’ve never had a ‘pet’ treat their relationship with you as nothing more than hunter and prey, you venomous witch.
Liri felt the tension in the air rise at Silas’s words and again was reminded of her station among the vampires. Reminded of the status of her relationship between Silas and herself…
Liri: (I... I didn't realize the magnitude of what I've been brought into... These two would level Solitude just to one up the other... I’ve got to get out of here! NOW!!!)
Liri: (This could all just be a ruse. He might just want to free himself from this clan and keep me as his trophy when this all ends…)
