Hidden Treasures of SD Plus

SD+ has its problems, but what's surprising is that nobody has built a mod on top of it.

To quote a response from @DeepBlueFrog on the SD+ forum:

There is a wiki page about the mod events supported by SD+ but it could use some updates:

https://github.com/SkyrimLL/SDPlus/wiki/For-Modders

For a list of most of events defined look in the _sdras_player.psc script:

https://github.com/SkyrimLL/SDPlus/blob/master/SanguineDebauchery/Data/scripts/source/_sdras_player.psc#L199

If you look at these pages, you'll discover that SD+ exposes an enormous number of ModEvent calls that can be used to make it do all kinds of interesting things, without even requiring a dependency. And that's not even considering what you can read out of it wither StorageUtil.

For example:

StorageUtil.GetStringValue( kPlayer, "_SD_sDefaultStance")

Values are: Crawling, Kneeling and Standing

I wrote about the idea of adding a mode where DF hands you off to SD to deal with enslavement on the DF forum. Knowing more about how you can use SD+, it would be possible to do that with some considerable customisation, and still run DF at the same time (though the master would not be a "follower" in the vanilla Skyrim sense at that point).

It's interesting. It really seems a shame we don't have a whole suite of SD+ "overlay" mods, that take the basic SD+ enslavement and build a specific scenario on top of it.

I really hope people do this at some point, I really like SD+ and usually include it in every load order for skyrim. DF is a new'ish discovery for me and I find it also pretty fun.

I consider SD+ broken really, so I dont see any use.

But to that later.

1. Mod authors never tie or build up to existing mods

There are tons of mods out there that just wait for that to happen but it doesent.
Devious Devices Equip provides ALOT but is only used by POP (a waste really)

Same with Sexlab Utlity Mod (SUM) from inte.

Everybody just makes his own stuff and tries to fix things that are not broken or that could easily be done by other mods.
Its a real shame I think.

2. SD+ beeing broken
The core idea of SD+ is nice, but it does not work

it was never updated since I first started playing skyrim mods years ago

The problems;

1. running away does not work. you are never released

2. punishment does not work reliably

3. punishment is so dated its a joke. Whipping textures are ugly, the PC location is not fixed when whipped (hilarious to see a cage moving when whipped)
4. punishment happens waaaaay to seldomly

5. everything requires speaking to the master -> ridiculous click fest
6. only reliable method is getting the master killed by other NPC -> unimmersive
7. the master just walks behind you instead of restricing you to his are -> see 6.

The Slave Allowance is unnecessarily cumbersome and has no visible or feelable differences
Too many masters just dont do anything

Aah, I get there again, its just no use. I wrote several very lenghty posts in the SD+ thread about all this but DeepBlueFrog did not even make new milestones for them.

I get the feeling only the Sanguine Quest is ever continued and I fail to understand what it even is or how u really play it.

Agree with Nymra's points here, tried it and ended up taking it out to free up plugins. Shame really as the shrine under the brewery was cool and i enjoyed the aesthetics of the dreamworld but there just seemed to be very little to do once you're there and i never found a way to get released even when pulling the emergency chain? Also i found i was getting enslaved by NPC's waaaayyy too often but that was probably due to my MCM settings.

On a brighter note though i think it could be a interesting basis to build upon for a mod creator and would be willing to give it another go if that happens.

I'm not sure the above is quite right. There's some truth in this, but it's not completely accurate.

SD+ has been updated several times over the last few years, and it has been reasonably stable and well behaved since the second-to-last update.

1. True - it doesn't seem to work. Either the master teleports to you, or you get shock-collared to death.

2. Mostly works for me.

3. Yes. It's variable. Sometimes it works well, other times it's not so good.

4. Depends on the master personality. Really does. You need to see a lot of masters to appreciate that though. You might get several for which it's not a thing.

5. True, so true.

6. Not even that is reliable in the case of creatures.

7. Not so. It depends on the master personality and his trust level, and other things. He definitely will restrict you if you do nothing but annoy him. Some masters are easy to get to follow, others really don't want to, and take time to come around. Some masters have a very strong idea of where they want to go, and demand you follow. It definitely varies from enslavement to enslavement.

The real problem with 7 is that masters cannot path well, when they are in charge of the direction they usually get stuck in loops. It's very common.

I have never once had a master arrive at the intended destination, in several years of using SD+.

Slave Allowance is a poor mechanic, as it's hard to get out of a hole once you're in it, and very easy to lose.

It's not an immersive or flexible approach. The tasks you're given to do are not always possible, or even logical.

The master's feedback often seems conflicted and contradictory.

When I tried SD the only quest I liked was the Spriggan questline, and I'm pretty sure someone's recreated that since then as a standalone plugin.

asuming this with any skyrim mod is 99% of the time incorrect, sadly :(

The latest SD+ seems pretty stable.

It does a better job of calming on surrender than Peril right now, which is impressive given Peril really doesn't do much more than just that.

However, creature enslavement is still terrible, with no way out. Creatures should just quickly lose interest in you, or die of their own accord, otherwise it's unplayable.

Tasks are still bad too, but I can see ways to fix that with an external mod that simply makes them possible to complete.

I'm interested in looking at it again to see what I can make it do for me with some modification.
