NuttySquabble Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 I might have missed this discussion, but what is actually the difference (from a user perspective) between these two releases? Which one is more stable and has better compatibility with mods? I don't assume you can switch between them mid-game, right? EDIT: Judging by most reponses and my own trials, SexLab 1.63 is better and will be supported by more mods than SexLab Lite.
ZangHouzi Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 I have also been asking myself the same question. In the end I decided to go with SexLab 1.63 Beta and I have to say it is very stable and almost all the popular mods work well with it: https://www.loverslab.com/topic/94228-sse-conversion-tracking-may-13-1085/
khumak Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 I think the main differences are how custimizable they are. Sexlab Lite comes bundled with a bunch of preloaded animations and you can't customize things as much as you can with the full version. Not sure if SLAL works with Sexlab Lite so if you want an animation pack that's not already included you probably want to use the full version.
papa emeritus Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 I use the full version sexlab for several weeks. Furthermore sexlab defeat, mnc, slal and various animation packs. Everything is working well. I just have more options and better animations than with Sexlab Lite.
tasairis Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 SexLab Light was a tweaked version of SexLab that was able to work before all the nice things like SKSE and such were ready. It also bundled lots of animations. Wasn't perfect but it was much better than nothing. Of course now we do have SKSE and all the major SKSE-based mods (and most of all that only really happened in the last few months) which is why Ashal was able to update SexLab for Special Edition. Still beta but basically everyone will tell you it works fine. Normal SexLab has the most compatibility, of course, since it's the original. SL Light mods had to be reworked to be compatible with it, and there are a handful (notably MatchMaker). But that doesn't mean you can grab Skyrim LE mods - Skyrim SE has a number of changes that can prevent many LE mods from working. CTDs and all that. But 99% can be converted easily. And no, you cannot switch between them. Installing both will cause problems. You can switch if you really want by treating the two as completely separate mods, so that means following clean save procedures when uninstalling one and installing the other and praying to the Nines that Skyrim doesn't break. And doing that also means you'd have to uninstall all the mods that depended on the one you were removing. So you're not going to want to switch. vinfamy's work on SL Light was wonderful and filled a gaping void where once people had been able to (cough) fill gaping voids. But SL is here now so go with that.
Celedhring Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Upgraded to Sexlab 1.63 from Sexlab Lite...havent looked back since.
wg171 Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 Sexlab 1.63 should be the better choice.....buuuuut It requires Skyrim SE and SKSE to be up to date... Do that and Racemenu stops working so say goodbye to that pretty face At least this is what happened to me. Rolled back Skyrim SE and re-installed SKSE 2.0.7 and my face was back

Which one is more stable and has better compatibility with mods? I don't assume you can switch between them mid-game, right? From a user perspective, animations and mod compatibility are your concerns. In my opinion, animation support in SexLab Light SE is fine, though the running notifications as it loads can be a bit troublesome whereas SexLab 1.63 runs more in the background. Overall, I don't see animations as too huge of a deal, but that's me. As a mod author, compatibility is a much bigger issue. SexLab 1.63 uses mod events as the triggers for communication between the framework and mods. This is easy and scalable as SexLab mods don't necessarily need to include the framework as a master file. SexLab Light SE uses SM events in the CK. This makes things harder for compatibility because the SexLab Light SE master is required to have access to the suitable keywords to hook those SM events. So you cannot expect SexLab mods to be compatible with SexLab Light SE unless the mod author creates either a separate build or a patch. Thus compatibility depends on an active and interested author where with SexLab 1.63, older mods often just work. While I have nothing but respect for vinfamy, and without SexLab Light SE I may not have even bothered to write a couple of my mods, SexLab Light SE felt like a hedge to get us through until Ashal's SexLab was ported for SSE. Now that we're pretty much there the official SexLab is generally recommended.
