Skyrim crash to desktop on main menu

Alright, so, I have a pretty heavily modded Skyrim on my E: drive, with my OS (Windows 10) on my C: drive. I decided to back up my Skyrim folder with my saves and whatnot on my C: drive to my E: drive, wipe it, and install Windows 7. I then moved my Skyrim folder back into Documents, and now it crashes on the main menu, right before it loads all the buttons (load game, new game, etc.) but my mods and game are on my E: drive, which is working fine. What can I do to fix this? I'm not sure if a mod list or whatever would be helpful, or if I have to just reinstall my game+mods. I was hoping that would be a last resort.

I read it more than 5 times, trying to understand what you did, and i have no fucking clue - which may be because of my poor linguistic skills, but maybe it would help if you rephrased that entire post.

 

Anyway, if you installed the game on W10, then moved it to W7 without actually installing it, i wouldn't be surprised it doesn't work (for example, you might be missing some registry records, or some dependencies that would normally get installed during the game's installation).

Just reinstall the thing, and then you can try copying the game files over into that new installation.

 

EDIT: also, isn't Skyrim a Steam game? as in "you need to install/activate it on Steam", so if you didn't do that on that W7 installation, then that might be a problem too.

i tried something similar to what you did once. 

you'll be in for a hard time getting the game to work this way, the best way to make any game work properly on a new OS install (regardless of version, and game) is to simply reinstall the game and possible mods from scratch

and yes it is annoying to do so, but you'll save yourself a massive headache trying to find out what went wrong, and what is missing

Skyrim and Steam make entries in Windows registry - you can't just move (any) program from one drive to another.
