Fixadent Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 I have the following PC hardware and get 20-35 fps in some areas of the downtown district in Fallout 4, as well as a few other areas of the game. I'm running the game at 1920x1080 resolution without any graphics mods installed. I also get huge fps lag spikes in other games on 1920x1080 resolution such as Tom Clancy's The Division, and Grand Theft Auto V. *Core i7 8700K *16GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM *2-way SLI Nvidia GTX 1080 with HB bridge *Corsair AX860 860W power supply.
Nagib Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 This game is known for poor performance in downtown. I believe there were some mods to help remedy part of it...
AWP3RATOR Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Do you happen to have the high resolution DLC pack installed? It's an FPS killer on even the best systems. My specs are similar to yours, and I get the same poorish performance when downtown. I have all settings on ultra, shadows to high, god rays to high, etc. I was getting anywhere from 30-45fps downtown without high-res DLC installed. With it, I'm in the 20's. I do have quite a few visual mods installed though and all the settings maxed out, so I'm "ok" with it. MSi X99A GAMING 7 mobo i7-5820k MSi 980Ti 6G 2-way SLI 32GB DDR4 2400 Samsung EVO 1TB SSD (2x) EVGA SuperNOVA 1000T2 PS This actually helps: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/978 but it's a mofo to install - requires unpacking all of the texture archives, replacing files, and repacking them all again. I'm stable at my ENB capped 60 fps everywhere else but downtown.
Fixadent Posted March 30, 2018 Author Posted March 30, 2018 No, all graphics are vanilla, no enb or high res texture pack.
Tompa987 Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Hey, I stumbled upon your post and I am no expert in any way but there is a mod that may help: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1822/?. I do not use this mod myself, but I did make a change in Fallout4Prefs.ini and it helped me - alot. I believe the suggestion on what values to change is from a post in that mod, I am unsure by who as I just copied these lines and saved them in a text document. The first value = change to. Value in parantheses = original. fDirShadowDistance=3000.0000 (this is what kills FPS (original=20000.0000)) fShadowDistance=14000.0000 (3000 = Medium / 14000 = High / 20000 = Ultra (original=20000.0000)) iShadowMapResolution=2048 (optional change this to 2048 (original=4096)) fBlendSplitDirShadow=192.0 (This one doesn't impact performance, but drastically effects quality (original=48.0000)) Like I said, I am no expert but after making these changes manually, there is no difference for me in downtown or any other areas. *EDIT: what it does is change the render distance of the shadows, which seems to be the culprit for many people. There are example values provided, and I have checked these and they seem to be correct.
Evan555alpha Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Your best bet would be to, as others have said, lower some settings. Keeping shadows down to 2048 (or lower) is good, as iirc, the game doesn't have shadow culling, meaning it will waste resources rendering shadows you can't see. Lowering God Rays to either low, or even outright turning them off, would be a good idea, too. They are very taxing on your system when set any higher, and imo, not worth it. Personally, what I did was set the game to the "high" settings, then change things like AA and anisotropic filtering, shadows, and god rays. I can't recall, as it's been a while, but I might have upped the AA and filtering, whilst lowering shadows and rays. Using the following (relevant) specs, I get 55-60fps indoors, and 40-60fps outdoors in most of the game world, save for areas such as downtown, which will be shithouse regardless. i7-6700k @ 4.0GHz EVGA GTX 1050ti @ stock speeds 16GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM Toshiba 7200RPM 3TB HDD When running an ENB at stock settings (The Vivid ENB on Nexus in particular) I see my fps reduced to ~45fps indoors, and ~33 outdoors. I also have the game run a startup bat command which will do any commands I put in to it. At the moment it does two things: setfog 0 150000 cl off What this does is something to do with fog (I can't recall; probably moves it further away or something), and disabled the character lighting. Both likely have a very minimal effect on performance, but I figure that they should be noted here anyways.
D_ManXX2 Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Do you have godrays set to max ?? try either lowering it or fully turn it off.
