Diffuse map as DXT1 or as DXT5 or as A5G6R5 and

which one leaves my diffuse just as it was?

I was adding a butthole to my diffuse because I

just learned how with Paint.Net and now I find

myself confused because I dont want my texture

altered in anyway besides the added butthole

Use DXT1. The others are used for textures with alpha maps, which allows for transparency in the texture.

DXT5 is used for textured with alpha maps(transparency), but the body doesn't need those, so saving it as DXT1 should be fine.

but the original is 22mb and as DXT1 it

is saved as 8mb, doesnt that mean its

going to be subpar to the original?

DXT is a type of DirectDraw compression; DXT1 does not save alpha as an alpha channel but rather as 0,0,0 RGB pixels. DXT3 and DXT5 both have support for pure alpha channels.

Things like glow maps and skin for SSK should be saved as DXT1, but weapons, armor, and clothing for games like Skyrim and Oblivion should be saved as DXT3 or 5.

The problem with vanilla texture quality was terrible DXT compression that was rewritten many times.

For best quality, don't save with DXT compression, for best performance and memory, save as DXT5.

I personally use GIMP, and save as DXT5 with mipmaps.

this is all very helpful thank you in advance

In your case: a black body, many people do not see the difference between purple textures and black ones (out of VRAM vs missing mipmapping)

I THINK I only get black bodies because my Steam installation

is in Program files (x86) which I know is bad btw. Specifically when I use Texblend

to blend in a Color, but when I blend Normals or Speculars

I dont get the Black Crystals or the Gray Glossy body

textures is 33% smaller because you didn't check generate mipmaps

isn't there tutos about textures?

as for the differences between this or that, most didn't bother checking

Mipmaps are progressively smaller textures saved as layers in the texture file. You know when you turn the texture quality down? That tells the game to use smaller mipmaps.

Stock texture=4096x4096, MipMap 1= 2048x2048, mipmap 2= 1024x1024, mipmap 3=512x512, and so on.

if enb is the worst thing you can install, how come so many use it?

aren't there screenshot comparaison for enb to check the visual and performance differences?

you were expecting a huge fps drop?

nothing complicated to enable/disable stuff, to check what eat fps, tu tune it down if it's not worth it for you

180122082024686734.jpg

it just don't look as good without enb

my biggest performance problems weren't enb

it was some mods meshes (huge fps drop without the enb patch, didn't check why) and high poly replacers (it's bigger than original, it doesn't fit in the mod furniture, collision problems crush fps)

I have to set the ENB ini files to read only to completely disable some FPS eating stuff like antialiasing, SMAA, shit like that. It's terribly optimized too, the game takes twice as long to load, and 90% of the effects like DoF and god rays suck. Literally the only redeeming part of ENB is memory management, and the 4GB patcher and SKSE do that anyway.

ENB is literally the most pointless mod in existence. Just use Dynavision, Imaginator, and SKGE. Nearly no performance loss.

I have SLI 1070s that destroy benchmark charts. With the three abovementioned mods, I manage 60FPS most of the time except in Markarth where it can drop. With ENB, with vsync, iPresent Interval, and vsync forced off in NVCP I can only manage 30-ish FPS even with enboost. SOmething is critically wrong with the binaries that somehow fucks literally everything up.

Not to mention the redundancy of having enbhost.exe, earlier it was just a fuckin DLL file and an INI with some shaders...now it's like 15 files.

I'll keep my 60fps, thank you.

I'd rather have 30 fps less than the shit skyrim shadows. Actually I'd rather have no shadows at all over the skyrim ones.

SKGE shadows don't look good either, imaginator I can't find a use for other than increasing gamma, depth of field is a ridiculous effect who should only be used for screenshots.

Basically you use ENB just for shadows, disable deferred rendering and you get no fps drop, almost. Also you can use the mods you mentioned as well.

PS: Maybe enb doesn't work well with SLI?

Your opinion that ENB can be replaced is funny at best, you should check that your opinions are not coming from your own incompetence to setup and optimize the game because that would be embarrassing. Mipmaps are used for anistropic filtering, thats why people make them. Not to make it compatible with lower texture resolution settings.

Or you could just get a decent graphics card? I went out and bought a 1080. (had to sleep on the couch for a week after .... totally worth it) Now I turn everything to full. Use uncompressed textures, high end enb with a sharpening filter (cause screw DoF), ugrids 9, and then let my gpu render it in 4k and scale it to my monitor. 60 fps all day, everywhere.

/facepalm

you won't disable sunray by setting the files to read only, that just unallow you to save your changes in enb menu in game (maybe)

you have smaa if you don't click use fxaa in skyrim launcher, nothing to do with enb

antialiasing is also in skyrimprefs.ini (if default is 4 and enb is 8, you have 8 in game with enb activated)

no idea what anistropic filtetric is

mipmaps, it's between full res and lods

ugrid 5, in 5*5 with default settings, your char use 4k texture, like npc near the house that use 2k texture, and the 1k barrel

you move back, house is now in x*x, your char use 4k, npc and house use 1k, barrel 512*512 (mipmaps)

you move back, house is now in y*y, your---------------, npc and house use 512*512, barrel 256*256

----------------------------------------z*z----------------------------------------------------256*256-----128*128

you move back, game replace house mesh with its lod, npc and barrel disappear (they don't have lods)

with mipmaps disabled house stay 4k in y*y

with one mipmap removed, your char is 2k, and house become lod in z*z (what they call lower texture resolution, that's to check if it's worth it to resize down, you don't play with that)

Anisotropic filtering is for when you look at a texture from an angle, it blurs out without it. Also if mipmaps aren't generated and you lower the texture quality from high you get garbage.

GTX 1070 in SLI beats every single-GPU setup but the Titan V in Unigine Superposition, Passmark, Firestrike, Heaven, etc. SLI 1070s, with supported applications are far, far better than any single GPU on the market within the same price range. One GTX 1080Ti is about $800, I paid $800 for both 1070s.

One GTX 1080Ti might get a score of about 6500 with a good overclock in Superposition, and that's a ridiculous score. The RX Vega 64 gets around 5200.

SLI GTX 1070s get over 7500.

I play on three screens, SLI is absolutely necessary for performance scaling. Skyrim and Fallout 4 both support SLI very well. I don't play very many games that don't support SLI, and those are fine without it.

People say SLI is dying, that's wrong. More applications ship with SLI support than not these days, nVidia just killed multi-GPU with Volta.

There are so many stupid effects that ENB uses like fog and cloud control that are completely pointless and a waste of CPU cycles. Also Boris Vorontsov is an arrogant self-important prick

SKGE also has water management, good AO, and a bunch of other fantastic features.
