Broken game after uninstall

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

So I've got a strange issue that whenever I use sexlab I get all sorts of strange bugs, especially when I uninstall sexlab or sexlab mods. Now sexlab itself works perfectly fine but the main game is pretty much bugged to hell. So recently I uninstalled sexlab and sexlab defeat and I'm aware this a delicate process so I made backups of my save files and took all sort of safety measures and read all the unistall instructions. I'm not gonna write up the full process I did just yet but the main points are that yes I cleaned sexlab first and unistalled from mcm, ran fnis (which didn't give any errors) and basically did everything the way it was instructed for sexlab and defeat.

However something went wrong as I started getting bugs such as strange animations when npcs died (theyd be solid on the ground aka no ragdoll just in a weird position), trees not having any leaves or branches which would suddenly appear out of nowhere, weapons being invisble when wielded by a follower and general performance drop. Also I should note that I never even saved the game when I used sexlab (only used it very briefly) apart from when sexlab mcm unistall instructed me to do so. Anyway so I reverted back to a previous save thinking it would solve the issue but that didn't help. So then I moved all those recent save files out of the save folder and copied there the backups I made before even starting the whole installation. This didn't help either and I started getting skyrim FootIK errors when loading saves. So I moved the saves back (which should have been totally untouched too) and I could load some of the saves again but the bugs still persisted. Now I know this is sexlab related as I didn't install anything else at the time and the problems started right after uninstalling sexlab.

What I'm trying to understand is why is sexlab such a mod that can affect basically all the saves even from before ever using sexlab and why does it seem to affect the whole game. How can I avoid this in the future and is there a way to fix my current issues? Let me know if you need any logs and whatnot. For now I'm going to try a savegame cleaner and see if that helps. I think there's a way to solve the bare trees issue too as it's to do with the trees animation and there's a setting in the skyrim inis somewhere for this. Still I'd like to get rid of the other problems too.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Peace,

You should never uninstall scripted mods during game play it's the best way to shoot yourself in the foot because even if you turn a mod off their scripts are still there running in your save file causing havoc. If you are going to remove scripted mods you must either start a new game or try to use a save cleaner to remove all the unwanted stuff from your save file.(Doesn't always work)

Yep I'm aware of that and really try to avoid this but sometimes I break this rule. But I was under the impression that it only affects the saves you run the mod on but in my case even the untouched saves were affected. Does it affect the whole character somehow?

So I downloaded SaveTool but it says there are no orphaned scripts detected. I'm using Nexus Mod Manager too but that shouldn't stop SaveTool from detecting oprhaned scripts right? Also I should note that I updated my fnis from 6.3 to newest version and ran it again and haven't run into any major issues (yet). Don't know if outdated fnis was the problem or it was just random. Gonna continue playing fingers crossed.

It might of been the cause hard to say or maybe when you shut the game down the other saves reset back to normal. I have had it before where I lost control of my character and couldn't move or anything and loading a different save didn't help as it was still there but shutting the game down and bring it back up fixed the controls and all saves were back to working order. NMM has nothing to do with save files it's only a mod manager for installing and uninstalling mods.

Alright cheers for the advice guys. Perhaps shutting the game down had something to do with it indeed. It seems now that my game is working normally again. There is still an issue that sometimes npcs would die in a fixed position and when I moved their bodies around there was no ragdoll effect but when I loaded my game and killed the same npcs again it worked fine. So that's something that's been happening after I used sexlab but it's a minor issue that doesn't happen often and I'm okay with it as it's barely noticeable. And yep don't have any mods that need sexlab so all should be well. Something I keep learning (and then ignoring) is that it's best to keep sexlab playthroughs and normal playthrough as separate characters. But this time I think I've finally learned my lesson lol. The current character is just too precious for me to mess around with.

Anyway once again thanks for all the advice and by the way this seems like a great community too! Perhaps I should have made an introductory post but I like getting straight to business  also I think it's safe to close this thread or whatever as things seem to be fine for now.

Peace out,
