Skyrim Hearthfire

Well' date=' for PC users, it really isn't too significant considering there are already mods that do the exact same things as the showcased content for the DLC (Build Your Own House mod + Adopt a child mod). So, why pay money for DLC when you can just download a few mods and get the exact same effect? I'm not suggesting developers do nothing, rather they just do something more worthwhile. Like spears. Where are my goddamned spears? And romance, too. That'd be great.

At least xbox 360 users will be happy about this DLC. I have a feeling PS3 will get shafted by Bethesda somehow.

Yeah, well. No. Modding is great and all, but I am pretty sure that Hearthfire will be much better than any adopting or house building mod. Always keep in mind that Bethesda has much more resources and tools available, they can add whatever they want to the game, modders not.

I can understand if you don't want to pay money for something like Hearthfire - but claiming that there are mods that do the exact same thing just isn't true. I'm pretty sure Hearthfire will add some new mechanics to the game, while modders often have to use workarounds to get things done. The "build your own home" mod for example mostly uses the enable and disable console commands when placing or removing stuff. Hearthfire, on the other hand, will most likely feature more... elegant and complex solutions. Which, of course, can then be used by any modder to build new house-building or adopting mods.

TRUTH WAS SPOKEN :D

....So' date=' why pay money for DLC when you can just download a few mods and get the exact same effect?....

Maybe because you get a much better scripted tool to do mods. The mod is good as well, but the DLC stuff is much better scripted. I cant understand why people complain about something that makes modding better....

Right. I agree completely, from a modder's perspective. More tools and resources would be great, without a doubt. And of course, the possibilities that it opens up will more than justify the cost, too. Which won't be hard considering it's only about 5$ (I'm a miser, though).

From a player perspective, disconnected from the side of making mods but still able to use them, it's a bit more different. Sure, the methods used by Bethesda and modders are different but, from what I've seen from the trailer, the result isn't much different from each other. Of course, what's happening behind the scenes to produce the results should be different and Bethesda's method will be more compliant with the game engine and, ultimately superior (Though, I honestly haven't had any technical problems with the Mod so...), but as a player... I don't really see too much of that. All I see is, use a workbench to design a house, room by room, and, boom, a house appears, much like the Build-A-House mod. Aside from the trophy room, steward, and bard (Which I feel can be implemented via mods as well, with the exception of voice acting), it feels like it will play similar to Build-A-House. Of course, since the trailer didn't showcase features in-depth, I could be completely wrong and Hearthfire blows all I know about player housing away but I'll prefer to have my doubts. I'll even let you guys say, "I told you so" without me getting angry or raging if I'm wrong.

I know I didn't touch on adoption but I've never tried the Adopt-A-Child mod so I can't really make a comparison. Aside from brutally murdering them, I don't have a lot of interest in Skyrim children. I hope the kids you adopt aren't as rude and ill-mannered as, say, Braith. If they are, they ought to have implemented a punishment system. Now that would be interesting.

I hope they decide to make a dwarf race' date=' i really want to kill some dragons as gimli

There are no classic dwarves in the TES universe. The Dwemer are actually elves and they are about the size of your average human or elf. They are only called dwarfes because the first race the Dwemer came in contact with were giants.

LMAO they already have enough problems from parents on this and every other game out there' date=' why on earth would they shoot themselves in the foot once again by implementing a punishment system for the children in the game? Do you have any idea the shitstorm that would cause?, parents aren't allowed to punish there kids in real life without the threat of going to jail for it. Fun as it might be to torture the mouthy little buggers, it would cause more trouble then it's worth.

[/quote']

True, I don't actually expect them to have implemented one. But, y'know, parents are allowed to do extremely minor punishments like grounding and the like (for whatever good that's worth). Now, if I ever adopt a child in Skyrim and they think of mouthing off at me, I'm sending them to their room... filled with rabid skeevers.

One of the other reasons Hearthfire excites me is not so much the new content of houses and kids but the mechanics it's adding: housing materials, adopting kids, raising them, decorating and customizing your home. Not only cool new things in themselves, but things I can't wait to see modders tweak as well.

Also, I just realized I'm going to be spending a ton of time moving my shit from Breezehome to wherever I build my house. The video game equivalent of moving: yay. Anyone want to mod some moving vans?

would be cool if they added in more depth to marriage aswell, some more interactions and mechanics maybe?

being able to get different reactions and results with dialogue gifts, radiant quests done etc.

giving your wife a dress for starters, having her happy/angry about deeds you do and comment on that, teaching your kids skills or something.

stuff of that kind.

Nagging you and getting angry at you for not listening to her.

Asking you to take the garbage out or clean out the gutters?'

Lol, I do agree though.

But... I'm all for The Sims: Skyrim edition.

k so now that hearthfire is out for the pc, are there any bugs/fixes in it? Any conflicting mods? Preferably a fix for that annoying skyrim mouse cursor and the pc mouse cursor would be fantastic, it buggles me so often that my camera wont turn as fast as my mouse

Word is that Hearthfire deletes some navmeshes.

This is a huge problem. Any mod, including the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, will cause CTD's due to using, referencing, or changing the navmeshes that Hearthfire removes.

As Hearthfire was made with a CK/game version newer than what we have, there's no way to fix it.

My suggestion is to ignore Hearthfire until these can be fixed. Everything in it can or has been done already in other mods, more or less. There's really no reason to get it, at least until fixes can be applied.

besides some minor bugs and issues with Hearthfire (actually - a lot of them!), today stumble across major one - started a new game (before, on other char, i builded house near Falkreath), played for a while, got letter from Falkreath jarl, but instead i go to the Dawnstar, complete quest there, become a thane, got a housecarl and bought a land... now when i trying to build house there, any part of it - nothing appear there, no house layout on the ground, no foundation, no walls, nothing... just for giggles (i sensed that crap coming) i travel to the Falkreath place and guess what? it builded house there... yeah... loading older save doesn't help, anybody know how to fix this?

yeah, Hearthfire itself pretty much useless, since you have mods like "Build Your Own Home" and dozens of followers mods (don't care about adoptions, i'm not into loli stuff), but again, it works pretty nice in conjunction with other mods like "Tundra Defense", if only it was not bugged as hell... damn you Beth, learn something from the modders

so then i take it that hearthfire doesnt add any fixes to the original game, all it does is just aadd new content that may or may not mess with my current mods

I have had no problems with Hearthfire so far. I haven't build at the Dawnstar location yet. But 2 times the Falkreath and 2 time the Morthal ones (first was a testrun just for tryout the building segments).

The only things I had is that the mannequin mods seem not to work in the new selfbuild houses (tried 5 different mods). No gender change, no mesh/texture changes. They have the standard vanilla bug of floating around here and then.

Also I haven't had a dialogue option to send my husband home, when I took him with me on travel. Couldn't get rid of him/send him home.

Planting is quite of strange. Sometimes only one ingredient is taken automatically and is planted, sometimes you get the slider for the amount. Choosing more then one results in 'You are only supposed to use one'. The script definetly needs corrections.

I don't like that you cannot remove the trophies in the trophy room later in the game. I set a wolf on one of the positions and later I wanted to replace it with a frost troll. Not possible. Would be nice to have that. I guess some modder will take care of this sooner or later.

Actually I am quite satisfied with the mod. For 4,99€ I always would buy it again.

I was glad to find out a custom follower who is also a merchant can be a steward, I was not sure this was going to work since they sell the house upgrades, but so far it looks like it's working although it's still early days it's good to come home and be able to sell all your junk or buy new supplies.

i have a succubi steward from the succuibi race mod on that site we dare not say lol. she walks around sells me supplies doesnt clear out rats the in basement. just tells me i have to go check it out. she does take on bandits and such tho that try invading.

you can adopt a child without doing the dark brotherhood quest. there are some orphans running around in differnt towns. you can take on once house is built. i have a son i found wandering around dawnstar. also i think the dawnstar location and the morthol one are best. i beefed up my house with tundra defence mod and built a town around my home from dawnstar.

as far as changing trophy room stuff goes. same problem cant change them and have same issue with mannequins and i play a female hero and use mod armor.it stinks all house mannequins are male when i cant display my stuff on them.

hope a modder can fix this.

as far as just a house mod its a bit more. you can build 3 houses. each to your own liking and depending on location can have some interesting outside things as well. like a fish hatchery that will grow any fish you add to it. just need one of each fish. farming it uses one of each item the script multiple number bar shows up when you have 5 or 6 or more of the same item like selling a potato when you have 15 of them. adopted kids call you momma or ma in my toons case when you give them toys or clothes you get charity bonus like when you give gold to a begger. cool trick get a home cooked meal from spouce give it to kid gets you the charity bonus for free lol. kids will fight and you can punish them yell at them. send them to do chores, go to bed go outside and play in a snow storm lol. you can get a family pet. my son braught home a small skever and said look what i found ma can i keep him. my responce was a hell no!!!. then i found a stray dog and showed it to him and poof insta pet. and you can hire a cariage driver. tho i say dont save your money. as i have yet to get a carriage to work even in vanilla game. i give destination sit in back and guy just keeps saying are you ready yet and we dont go anywhere lol.

you can hire a bard fro msteward and fire them then hire a different bard till you get one you like looks wise and song wise. so far thats all my info on hearthfire hope it helps you all out
