Ernest Lemmingway Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 You shouldn't need a new power system with those two upgrades alone. RAM doesn't put that much of a draw on your power demands and the new CPU shouldn't draw too much more than your current one. Unless your system is already having problems with power, you should be fine.
Loogie Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 500W is more than enough to drive those two new components - only thing that gets absurdly power hungry in a normal setup is the graphics card, and a 500W one is well within the recommendation for a 1060. My only question is, how old is the power supply? The reason I ask is the i5 you're currently using came out in 2014, and 5 years is typically how long you should trust a power supply. That being said, the no-name power supply I got in a Gateway in 2011 - and the i3-2120 processor that came with it - are both going strong.
Darkening Demise Posted December 13, 2017 Author Posted December 13, 2017 PSU is around 1 year old since I first started using it.
