Tes5edit question and problem

I can easily change actor's values in TES5edit for almost all created NPCs and Vanilla NPCs. Now, I have a unique follower in my game the has values which I don't like such a cowardly, neutral, helps nobody ... Whenever I change any value in Tes5eidt, my game crashes at startup. Changing load order doesn't help. The only solution is reinstalling the mod. I compared her with other standalone unique followers and changed their values in T5E without problem. There must be something that makes the game crushing after loading her with changed values. If I succeed to load the game, she is invisible and the game can't identify her ID and her presence. Can someone point me to the places where and what to check? Thank you.

I don't know about using TES5edit for these things, but I would use the (dreaded) CK to just make a small patch .esp file to make the few changes. Don't try to edit files directly; that causes havoc. I know first hand.

Thanks for the answer and the warning. :)

I don't have Ck and I don't know how to use it. SO, I guess I will leave that mode alone.

Did you try that aproach only with your ongoing game or did you also test it on a new game?

I remember to do that sometime in the past with some modded NPCs. But I only used it in a new game.

I tried to do it three times on the new game. That particular follower is the only one that causes me problems in T5E. All other that I changed and edited works fine.

Hmm, strange. First impression is, it doesn't look like there is rocket-science involved.

Next  idea:

try to edit another value ... relationship or equipment ... and see if that crashes too

next idea after that:

try the same edits with followers from a different mod

All in all with the prupose to narrow your CTDs down to the real cause.

I intend to test a bit of DD4 later today but my dummy game has a modded NPC with me in my playerhome .. I'll try change something silly in that mod as well .. (it's been a while for me).

This mod was created with Skyrim NPC Editor - lol.

And contains Apachii hairstyles.
This is also used as a hairstyle for the NPC.

You should clean up the mod with CK.
Or if TEX5Edit has to be - try erasing all "semi-legal" hairstyles and using a standard hairstyle.
You can use the official ESM of Apachiihair as master if you want. and also the Update.esm

T5E accept changes but the game refused to load modified NPC. I tried all. Even most insignificant change and the game crushed or loaded without visible modified NPC.

Thanks. Will try that. :) Must find the right Apachi hair ID first. :)

I said it - it's created with Skyrim NPC Editor.
Great tool, but not to create mods.
Is very good for fix facetints, but not for mods.

It's not a special follower - no unique skills, no own dialogues, and not very pretty. Best of all - forget it, there are more worthwhile mods. ;)

hmmm.. I sense a little miracle here ..... that it ever loaded at all :P

It is not surprising - and there are worse things than that.
As long as no tools like CK or TES5Edit are used, it does not matter. ;)

Thank you guys for participating in helping me. You see, Laraya looks much better in my game than she looks in authour's pictures and I like her. All I wanted to change her traits. She's very hot redguard. I will try to remove her Apachii hair today and let you know how it went. I also checked her file for errors and found a bunch of it. Since I'm not English natural speaker person, I didn't understand some things and didn't know how to fix it. Still don't know and thanks to your suggestions I know where to start. You guys are awesome.

Thank you. :)

I you want hot Redguard I have for you Aaliyah

Thanks buddy. I think I tried her but she doesn't look so good in my game. I have different mods then you and different textures. You know which one I'm very interersted to have ;) but you keep her looked. ;)

Looks like you will have to change values manually to fix her.
Try to create a new NPC with Tes5Edit and pull all the needed changes from Laraya's esp file.
That way you can recreate the mod correctly.

Thanks for suggestion. I do not know how to make a new follower in T5E. Even after looking the video tutorial. It's a bit complicated for me.

So here is the update of what I did: I removed all hers dependencies and copied adequate ID references. I got the same result: CTD or loading the game with her being invisible. I obviously do something wrong. Therefore, I giving up from changing her. THANK YOU ALL FOR SUGGESTIONS AND ADVICES.

I tried to duplicate, looks ok but skin tint is not exact also getting a lot of light reflection in the eyes.

Anyway try this if you want, she has no equipment so you will have to edit the esp and as the existing esp was corrupt the voice and ai behavior is just my guess. You can edit anything but if you change looks and regen face data you will have to use nifmerge from original face gen mesh and then copy over the textures as that is how I did it.

The plugin has lots of unfilled records, like race, headparts, voice, tints and other stuff.
Laraya has to be recreated.
1. Take Lydia's NPC record from Skyrim.esm as an example and fill all the records as in Lydia's example, only change records to Laraya's if the defer.

Ignore tints/head parts as they are different indeed.

Head parts are messed up in plugin, you need to recreate those two.
BSA doesn't contain anything other than Facegendata, so you will need to reference hair and hairline from Apachii.

Apachii Head Part is what is been placed as NPC in cell, that has to be changed to Laraya herself.
You are in a world of some work, if you are going to do that.
I guess you will need around half an hour for all that.

Nagib, That file I posted is a new esp with valid records, I just used the original npcs head mesh to create a matching character then exported it into an npc file and rebuilt it with ck and nifmerge. It is safe to edit and has no hard dependencies but does require apache hairs texture folder to be installed, it contains none of those head parts which weren't needed at all, I did test it quickly in game and it works fine.
