Need some advice for making F4 Mods

I have been wanting to make a magazine retexture for Fallout 4 for a while now but I'm not very familiar with how modmaking works for F4. I have made some smaller modsfor Skyrim and The Sims 4 but nothing for Fallout 4. Is there anything I should know about the basics, any specific programs I should use and do you know of any tutorials for retexturing (specifically magazines)?

BC5 & BC7 DDS formats for FO4 are similar to Skyrim SE.

But both games can read the DXT5 DDS format as well (usually what most magazine re texture mods uses).

There are 2 versions of each Magainze.

One goes into the folder "Fallout 4\Data\Textures\Props\ComicsAndMagazines" The other in the "Fallout 4\Data\Textures\Props\ComicsAndMagazinesHighRes"

Most re texture mods just duplicate the two. But I think the Highres version should get a slightly higher poly count version (just my option).

They use a standard square texture format (512x512, 1024x1024, not sure if they support 2k or 4k never used a re texture with that high a detail).

If you build a package, make it nmm/mo compatible so that the end user can choose which magazine sets they want to install.

Say they like your re texture of the Awesome Tales but they like someone else's Tesla set... They can choose to install just the parts of your mod they like.

Yada Yada Yada...

I'ld say download and take a look at the different re texture sets either here in the fo4 adult section or on the nexus.... Some of them may give you an idea of the layout.

Also you can choose to do new or beaten up styles (like burnt corners, scaring, etc).
