Required DLC for mods?

Soooo...out of all the DLC for this game (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn), which is the most required for alot of the mods on here?

I guess to be more specific / narrow it down to what I'm planning on modding / adding, what would I need for the most ideal Pregnancy setup? (the required DLC, mods i can figure out)

Why not just find all the mods you want and then see what LOOT tells you to get?

becaaaaaaause i've never modded Skyrim before, as the only version ive ever played of it is the meh ps3 port, so i didnt know such a thing existed?

Oh. Glad to see a new member of the community. Welcome aboard.

LOOT is an essential program for modding that automagically determines a (usually) good order for your mods to be loaded into (or applied to) the game (You can check its work with xedit, but that's kind of advanced, so just read descriptions carefully), and warns you when you're missing a master file. If you just download the mods you want (which you should do with a manager, in my opinion MO and then Vortex when it releases), it'll tell you 'Hey, mod X is asking for DLC Y.' And if you use MO, you can set up two profiles: one to play now, and one to play when you get the DLCs you need.

That said, I really do recommend all three DLCs, because then you can get the Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch, which fixes the vast majority of Skyrim's bugs. A lot of mods either explicitly require it, or really expect it to be there. There are the individual patches, but I don't think those are being updated anymore, and there are some issues that can only be addressed by the Legendary version. And of course the individual patches don't satisfy the "Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch.esp" requirement. The High-res texture pack from Bethesda is terribly optimized and I don't recommend it at all.

Dawnguard would probably the most required due to how old and expansive in content it was. Followed closely by Dragonborn due to it also being rather expansive in its content. Hearthfire would probably be the least required, but being how cheap it is you should probably still consider getting it just to be covered. The hires texture pack isn't required for any mod I'm aware of, but its free should that come up.

Kind of the cart before the horse here.  Best bet is to look at what sort of mods you are interested in and then you will know what you need based on what they require.

and what if I DON'T have the Legendary edition?

Steam is being stupid and removed the Legendary Bundle from their stores in-order to basically force the Enhanced / Special edition on you (can still find base Skyrim, but need to get all DLCs separate)

Just to be clear...  "Legendary Edition" just means Skyrim with all of the DLCs.  It's not a single file or special download.  Getting all of the DLCs individually still makes it the "Legendary Edition".  So anything that says it requires "legendary edition" (such as USLEEP does) just means you need all of the DLC.

As someone mentioned above, your best bet is to get all of the DLC especially since USLEEP itself is a prerequisite for many mods.  While Hearthfie itself is a pretty useless dlc by itself, a number of mods use it's assets to create much better mods.  Dawnguard contains changes to Vampires and Werewolves that many mods need.  Frankly, I think Dragonborn is the weakest of the lot.  But again, get them all if you can.

Yeah, legendary edition and normal + dlcs are exactly the same files at the end of the day, so it doesn't matter how you get them, just that you do.

That said, getting them all separately could be expensive, especially since Bethesda (I assume) stopped including the original in Steam sales.

Agreed.

I can't speak for other pregnancy mods, but Egg Factory is designed to require none of the official DLCs.

ah will it be better then nmm?

Well, it is literally getting developed to replace/retire NMM by the Nexusmods team.

And they've hired the creator of MO to help.

I should hope so. It's planned to replace NMM. It functions similarly as far as how it actually installs the mods (links, rather than the full-blown vfs from MO), but it gives MO-like control over installation order (you no longer have to specify the whole install order, just the order between conflicts) and a profile system that's closer to MO's speed. It'll hopefully have all those little quality of life improvements from MO as well, like the ability to see if BSAs are overwriting instead of just loose files, and custom shortcuts rather than just the ones that the Nexus deemed worthy.

It's all being built on a modern backend, which will be massively faster than the dinosaur tech that's been forced to do the work of NMM.
