Random noob moment, load order question

Ok, after how many years of playing Skyrim and I am just now asking this question. When a mod says, put it as high in the load order as possible. Which high... say I have 170 mods active, do I try to put it in the high 160-170 range, or low 30s? Since it counts from 1 going down to 170, which ones high?

Reason I ask, Loot places a mod, Feminine Females (makes women in armor walk like women) in the upper 30s, and it doesn't work there. I place it dead last at 170, and it works perfectly.

High is just under the esm's.  As to having it first or last.  If it ends up working towards the bottom, it means you are running things that directly conflict with it.

You can investigate that, or you can leave it where you have it, provided everything else seems to work.

What greg said.

Loot is great and all, but it cant beat manual manipulation.

Really it comes down to fiddling with load orders till you find what works best and using tools like xedit to see whats happening along the way, while only using loot as a starting point.

The reason is, after Feminime Females are still other Mods with change of NPC's (Lydia etc).

Loot is generally very good, but not always correct.

Feminime Females at 170 is ok.

The mod only modifies the "Opposite Gender Animation" flag.

Alternatively, you can use TESV Edit to change this flag in all affected mods.

After that, 30 will work - as sorted by Loot.
