Is it worth the switch from SOS to SAM? (Compatibility?)

I really would like to have the SAM content but I'm worried about compatibility? I heard it's not compatible with updated RaceMenu? SAM has been moved to VectorPlexus.com recently and as far as I can tell the author isn't going to release a update anytime soon.

Vectorplexus.com SAM download page

(need register for access I think)

My question is - if I download the version available above v2.011.19

What should I keep in mind? I have quite a few sexlab mods.

          > Mods that state that they need SOS - are they going to be incompatible? Or is the framework the same?

And being fairly new to this, what would be the rough procedure for a switch from SOS to SAM? I'm using Mod Organizer. Would it just be a drop in replacement for SOS?

Thank you all. I looked all around but haven't found any new information regarding SAM.

Any mods that depend on SOS will be 100% incompatible with SAM, not only because the frameworks (and the scripts and everything) are completely different, but also because the models/textures themselves don't even match (you can't use SOS schlongs/textures with SAM and viceversa). There is also the RaceMenu thing, which IMO is a big turnoff because you have to use an outdated version of RaceMenu and NiOverride IIRC. SL and SAM should work fine, though, but I'm not sure because I've never tried.

As for replacing SOS, it's really easy thanks to MO; just deactivate the SOS mod folder, install SAM to a specific SAM folder, and activate SAM. That's it.

SAM is only compatible with the latest racemenu if you have XPMSE skeleton + HDT-PE installed, even if you don't use any HDT mods.

Always used latest racemenu version and never had an issue while these mods are installed.

SAM will be updated soon it seems.

Oh, is it? I though it had to do with NiOverride or something similar. Good to know.

In any case, answering your question: in my opinion switching to SAM is not worth it, though someone with more experience using SAM may have something else to add.

SAM suffer from some issues that were fixed (but the files has been removed). The body is still way better than SOS. SOS looks... crap and glitchy. The only thing cool with SOS is the penis choice.

SAM has better bodies and more option with it in game, plus it has more armor refits (but no more available apparently), and it's the only body male still in development by the SOS author, so miracle can happen. SOS is finished and no more features will be added to it.

In fact, you should wait a little before switching to SAM, because an update is coming really soon. I'm 100% sure SOS will be outdated compared to SAM in the future.

Really? Didn't know that, I mean here on loverslab XPMSE + HDT-PE seems like a preeetty standard installation.

And yes the bodies and morphing is really what got me sold on SAM. Especially for the other races like Argonians

Blaze69 what do you mean by 100% incompatible? For me personally I don't care much for the arousal integration etc. As long as sexlab core can make the schlong hard during sex that's all I need really.

Btw, I use HDT physics enabled vaginas, would that cause a problem with SAM?

Meaning that anything that directly depends on SOS' framework won't work (your game won't even be able to load due to missing masters), and any texture/mesh built for SOS will look wrong on SAM bodies.

I'd listen to khyan69 about direct experience with SAM, since I only gave it a try a long time ago and there seems to have been some changes, so I'm not a reliable source of info about it.

Ah I see what you mean by the Masters.

Thanks for the help guys, the information was very useful

khyan69 if you have any information on whether SAM will play nicely with a HDT enabled vagina model please let me know.

Looks like I'll just try it out and see. I guess with MO that's the good thing - no real harm if I roll back

I had a look on their forums, to my understanding he's only working on a SSE release on SAM? And Skyrim SAM will be left as is? If he really will wait for SKSE for special edition to release the next SAM, I mean... >_>

It's unlikely. In short, the only reason the HDT-enabled vagina does anything is because SOS penises have also had some HDT scripting added to them so they can interact. It's the same reason why, if your Skyrim install has as much creature content as mine does, there are some things that will and some things that will not play along as well.

I can't say for certain that there are neither scripts nor the ability to add them to the SAM body without it being a monumental pain in the ass, but if there are, I'm not aware of them. Given how isolated SAM has been, it doesn't seem likely, though I'm more than willing to defer to superior experience on this one.

SAM is a great bodymod and I can recommend it.

But you should know two things:

1) Its very script intensive. Always when you enter a new area with males it will works in your background.

2) Many mods on LL are not build for it so not all mods may work perfect with it and especially werewolf mods will conflict with SAM and cause graphical issues.

PS: I used SAM for at least two years (switched back to SOS last week) and never had problems with Racemenu as long as XPMSE and HDT-PE is installed

Do you mean a big load increase / fps drop when large amounts of male are loaded in an area? Or it just takes longer to load?

Also may I know your reason for switching back to SOS? Thanks

I dont know if SAM increase your load time, but it will increase the game stuttering.

Its like with any other script heavy mod, they slow down your game and too many can overheat the papyrus engine, followed by a crash/freeze.

And since my switch to SOS I have no ILS anymore. (<-Need more testing)

I switched mainly to SOS because the werewolves issues (MTE + CF + SAM = not good) and, because I start using iNeed and Frostfall, to reduce my script loads.

My PC could handle it, but I dont wont it. :)

I use SAM, and like it a great deal. Vector is working on an update, and it isn't only for SSE.

The big problem currently is lack of clothes/armor. Most of the refits are not currently available anywhere, sadly.

I can confirm what was said about SAM being script heavy on loading a new cell. But SOS also has script problems. So neither mod is problem-free. However, as was also said, SAM at least is in active development (again), so things can be fixed, while SOS is "dead", unless someone picks it up.
