Armor mod causing skin bug for all female characters?

Hi everyone.

So I think this because of something in my options because I have had this mod before and never had any problems like this... This is a fresh install skyrim with just some basic mods like racemenu, skyui and SKSE.

So... basically by installing any of these 3 armor mods:

would cause this kind of error:

I am 100% sure that this is causing it because by manually installing them I get the bug, if manually remove them then the bug is fixed.

The easiest solution is just to not install them but honestly I dont understand why this is happening...

Anyone have any ideas?

Not really a lot of light to be able to see anything very good but to me it looks like a memory issue. Does the blackness start to disappear when you get closer with the camera?

Also all three of your screenshots are the same screenshot.

Yeah looks like lack of enough memory

Happened to me once, caused by oversized body textures(something like 67mb each)... Even though my rig should be able to handle this.

I would check the nifs first.

  • Are the Properties in the NITriShapes for the skin portions correct?  Do those Properties point to the right BSLightingShaderProperty?
  • Does the BSLightingShaderProperty have the right flags for skin?
  • Do the texture paths in the BSShaderTextureSet point to the right folders? (textures\actors\character\female\FemaleBody_1.dds, etc)
  • Are the subheaders in the NiTriShapeData correct; the right Num UV Sets (1) and Has Normals (no)?

Are you playing a custom race with custom texture paths or using a mod that repaths the vanilla female skin textures to folders not normally used?  If either of those are true the game processing a texture swap will eat a shit load of memory.

Have you tried giving the armor to a follower and if you have, does it do the same thing?

EDIT:  Yeah and uber-sized body textures (4069x4096) will cause problems like this.  Tip; texture quality doesn't come from over-sized diffused maps and other fake hi-res nonsense.  Body detail comes from normal maps and nothing else.  2048x2048 textures work just as well as bigger ones, and they don't tax your system.

Yea sorry I mean to include these screenshots as well I dont know why it happened.

here are some zoomed in ones, which as you guessed made the blackspots disappear.

But the beast races are fine:

Anyway I keep playing around and it works now... its so odd.

I also think this is a memory issue. I am going to downgrade from 4k to 2k but I have a 970 gtx so I doubt its a system issue but rather a skyrim settings issue... right?

Well the issue is resolved now by idk what exactly...

@Kendo

Idk how to check those specifications but that was just a vanilla race and I think you are right about the skin thing because if it was just a memory thing or lighting thing it should have effected them all. but it only affected those with this certain skin.

Despite what you might read on various mod pages or ini tweak suggestions, Skyrim does have a limit on texture sizes and there isn't a 'tweak' that will fix it.  For face details (like freckles and wrinkles) it is 512x512 and tint masks (like war paints and make up) the size limit is 256x256.  Anything larger than that doesn't do anything other than suck up disk space and game memory.  The same is true for body and face textures.  2048x2048 is the limit.  The game simply won't process anything larger than the intended size.  The ini tweak 'BAllowBigAssedTextures' or whatever it is called doesn't do a damn thing.

You're better off going through your folders and ditching all of the over-sized textures you might be using.  You game performance will improve.

Yea this is a new install so none of those are even installed yet so I am going to be avoiding them :)

Thanks Kendo.
