Anyone know what's causing this?

Title says it all really, I can't for the life of me figure out which of my mods is responsible (if it is any single mod and not a combination of terrible fortune that is). Whenever I start a new game it puts me inside the front of the carriage with my head sticking out between the driver's feet. It seems to fix itself once the carriage ride ends but I'm hoping it isn't a sign of some problem straight away, because apparently fate is against starting a stable game for once.

Anyone seen this before or know of it?

It's been said time and time before, starting a new game with alot of mods WILL cause issues.

You need little or no mods enabled till you leave the cave THEN enable a few, test and repeat till all are up.

Wouldn't that be an issue with FNIS and the sitting animation?

Doesn't seem to be, I've rerun the patcher with no change, although I haven't actually tried reinstalling.

Turns out no, it's not FNIS. As I said though, it corrects itself but I'm just not sure if it's a bigger problem waiting to spring up later.

The cart ride is a glitchy, twitchy piece of crap animation/scripting that can be affected by many factors (past suspected culprits include Animated Prostitution, Immersive Armors, SOS, and basically anything that MIGHT affect animation).  Your best bet is to bypass the cart ride using mods like Alternate Start-Live Another Life, Skyrim Unbound, etc.  Frankly, after the second time you do the cart ride, it is bbbbooorrriiinnnggg.

Yah, what srayesmanll said. With Live Another Life you can still pick up the main quest when you follow the "hint".

And if you don't want to use a mod that skips the intro, do NOT install and activate a ton of mods. Texture/ mesh mods are OK to install since they (generally) don't create strain on the game engine.

Just wait until you are out of the cave, or better much better still, inside an enclosed space (i.e. a house, NOT an inn) to activate other mods. Otherwise you simply WILL get issues with the intro.

Running a program like LOOT on your load order can help. At least that's worked for me as far as straitening out the glitchiness of the cart ride.

I agree that running LOOT is a good idea in general (as a good starting point), doubt is has that much of an effect on the crappiness of the cart ride.  I've mentioned this before:  when I first starting playing Skyrim, it was on the XBox360 (don't shoot me please  ).  On one of the new characters I made (third or fourth character, don't remember which), the cart ride glitched out completely just like people see on the PC and blame on mods.  Again, this was on the Xbox - no mods, no new animations, just the vanilla game.  Complete glitch out.

The alt start mods are the best way to avoid it.

As others have said, the cart ride is incredibly glitchy if you're running mods. You're really better off using Alternate start, and if you're dead set on having the vanilla start, you can choose it from the mod as well.

I use Touring Carriages which uses the cart animations so see this a lot. It's caused by another script firing off at the same time as the animation is running and seems to be a harmless though annoying issue.

With Touring Carriages you see it for example if a soulgem plug goes off while in the cart, the pc then gets stuck between the drivers legs until the end of the journey and then gets put back into the cart by the final disembark animation.

TC is here btw if you like immersion but if you use it you'll also need the .nif fix to stabilise it http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/38529/? and  http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/46703/? and careful with mods like DCL and DH which can break the animation so turn them off if they're likely to fire or you'll ctd (camera ends up in two places at once)

I thought most of the glitches with the cart ride were caused by forgetting to limit the the game to 60FPS in the ini file, like the items exploding off of shelves when you enter a room. Worth a check, but like most others - I use alternate start live another life.

That's a cause, but having a number of script heavy mods can screw with it too. As far as I've read/heard the opening sequence is a little...delicate.
