Maeva's Books, Casta's Books, and Amalric's Books, oh, my!

Just a note that another update to the mod is now available.

 

Nine (!) new books from Amalric, all attributed to Casta Scribonia, and three new works by Maeva.  If you liked the previous books, you will enjoy these.

 

Available on the Nexus at the same place.  The Welcome book, in-game, provides details.

For any interested parties, a note that what is likely the final version of Maeva Scribonia's Bookshop is now up and available on the Nexus.  This brings the in-mod tally of books to 100 of Maeva's and 44 of Amalric's, all excellent reading material, lore friendly, and in keeping with the spirit of the game.  Also several sets of quests to get access to all the books, and a raft of small, odd things and items to keep it interesting.

 

Maeva wrote over 300 books for her own, private library mod, but the rest are unlikely to get released.

 

Hope you enjoy these books as much as I do.

I lied.   Maeva and Amalric have given me new books, and they are too good not to share.  The update now includes 104 books from Maeva (almost a third of her total library) and another six from Amalric, all Casta Scribonia 'bodice rippers'.  I have some more, but I'm saving them for another possible release.

 

In addition, for those that enjoyed the Amalric's Book Cubby quest, I've provided access to the lower decks of the wreck of the Dawnstar.  The key is enabled if the quest is running by talking to Newheim after getting access to the captain's cabin, or if the quest complete flag is set.

 

Just make sure you can hold your breath for a loooong time.

Hiya Trippy. I just recently redid a bunch of stuff and the books from your mod are included in leveled lists in my CoblGold.esp. Any chance you could telle me which books are new so I may add them to my CoblGold.esp?

Just a quickie, ahem, update to this topic.   The Maeva's Bookshop mod has recently been updated to remove the conflict with "Reclaiming Sancre Tor" by moving the wreck of the Dawnstar to  a reef just off the south shore of the Strid River, a little further towards the sea.   You will need to have borders disabled to access the wreck.

 

And more books!  And more manuscripts!   Same terrific quest content!  And your clothes will be cleaner than ever!  (Well, that last bit may be a bit of 'overmarketing', but the update is well worth installing.  Just remember to put the included Meshes and Textures folders into your Data folder to see the new book illustrations, etc.  Or leave it to OBMM, it knows this stuff better than you do.)

Just a quick note, for anyone interested in my mods.  Due to some very poor decisions by the Nexus to remove ownership of published mods from their authors, I have deleted all my mods, including "Maeva Scribonia's Bookshop".

 

If anyone needs any of these mods, for instance to enable some of the Lovers' sub-mods, email me and I will send them out.

OK, the mod is now posted on Lovers Lab under the Oblivion Adults Mods/Downloads/ forum.  New books, new quests, same offensive content.  New update is save friendly, as always.  Remember to extract the Textures and Meshes folders and click Yes to overwrite (it won't overwrite anything not in the mod.)

Hey, Trippy, got a question.

 

I was wondering if Maeva and Casta might have a relative hidden away on Paradise Island that they secretly ship books to?

 

May I use major parts of the Bookshop Mod in my mod? I have a generic bookstore in my Merchant District, or could add it at a village location. I could easily adapt the AR part to one of my locations. I’m trying to finish a few things up before asking for a few alpha testers, then I will start renaming my generic homes and such, and start adding npc’s.

Sorry for delayed response.  For some reason I did not get a notification of this post.

 

In principle, I don't have a problem with what you are proposing, as long as credit is given to 'Maeva' and to Amalric, of course.  I will check with both authors to ensure they don't have a problem either, and will respond to you.  I think all concerned will be flattered by the proposal.

 

There is likely to be some restriction, since some of the books are pivotal in specific quests in 'Maeva Scribonia's Bookshop', and are specific to the overall plot lines.  For instance, I doubt that you'd want to include 'The Hidden Library' in your mod since it would not serve any purpose there.  Likewise, some of the books have scripts in them that turn on events or stages in quests specific to the Bookshop.  These are all 'Maeva's' works - Amalric's are mostly standalone, although some of them lean on the plotline in 'Maeva's' works.  (Amalric states that it was 'Maeva's' stories that inspired him to start writing his.)  But, don't want a player buying a book in your mod which clicks over a stage in the Bookshop without completing the other requirements, etc.

 

Let me get back to you.  I don't expect any obstacles to including most of the works in your mod.  I might provide a list of exceptions, books that mustn't be published outside of the Bookshop for scripting or plot sequence reasons.

I know that there are a lot of ‘quest’ related items, but would not use all. Was thinking something like, some of the books in a similar shop, and maybe some quests along the line of ‘I got a letter from Maeva and I need you to find a book.’ Haven’t really thought out ‘quests’, but when I got the idea, thought I would ask, since I prefer to use LL resources in my mod, if possible.

OK, Maeva is generally favourable.  With credit, and with some books withheld because they give away stuff in the Bookshop mod.  I can make up a list of those, and, once she's approved it, can send it to you.

 

Haven't heard back from Amalric yet.  But I haven't heard from him in a while.  I believe he is in mainland Europe, somewhere, and may have his hands full of other stuff.

 

Question:  Would you want to make the Bookshop mod a pre-requisite, and simply add the books across into your mod (i.e. make the Bookshop mod a 'parent master')?  Or would you want to do it the hard way and add each book to your mod?

We could go either way. Hadn't really thought about details yet. Mainly, trying to get what I have ready for a few to alpha test for general impressions, layout and such. To this point, the mod is not dependent on any other, but as soon as a few people look and run around the island, then will start having masters. If you want to take a look, it may be ready for a run through in a few days.

I'd love to try it out.  And I might be able to make some suggestions, or even help with the implementation.
