ArmorSmith Extended got taken down by Author

After reading why Gambit77 took down AE on the Nexus earlier tonight, I have to admit I have mixed feelings about it. I fully understand and respect that fact that a mod author owns his or her intellectual property and has the right to do whatever they want with it.

On the other hand, I'm not entirely sure that holding a mod hostage is the right way to garner support just so you can enter some contest.

It just seems very self-serving to me and to be honest, I'd be much more inclined to help the guy out if he had just approached this in a different way.

WTF are you talking about? I am downloading AE v 3.02 as an update from the Nexus right now... /finished.

The link is here. Cha!

When I made my post, the mod was taken down.

When you made your post, the mod was back up.

so.................................

... so I gave you an update ;)

Already knew but thanks for trying  :P

I didn't try, I just did it in absence of updated information, and only that matters, you see?

I've never seen so many modders act like spoiled little children before. This is just the most blatant example of many throwing a fit over everything going on with BethNet and FO4. To top it off, it was a problem on his end? Wow! If this guy is a new modder, it fills me with dread to think of what future modders will also be like. And yes, I used ASE when I was playing FO4 so I know what it is and who the author is.

Yes, he has every right to delete his mod, there is nothing wrong with that, but it also make him a huge jerk, especially in this case, you made a framework support mod and other ppl made mods depends on that, and you just delete it for some unrelated drama.

And I think this is what got most people twisted about his actions. Like I said in my original post, I didn't think holding a mod hostage was the right way to get support for his problem. However, in his defense, I think everyone can understand his frustration and anger, even though it ultimately turned out to be a problem on HIS end and not Bethesda's.

The bigger problem here is will this now become a precedent as someone else in this thread mentioned earlier? I sincerely hope that will not be the case. In fact, I think the modding community is much more mature than that and can see the danger in over-reacting to something that can easily be solved just by taking a closer look.

By no means am I a modder. I can make stupid little edits to my game and I can usually find and solve a problem The few mods that I have made are nowhere near the quality of what you guys post here and on the Nexus. This is why I have nothing but respect for the effort you guys put into your work and gratitude that you share it with the rest of us.

That being said, Gambit77 belongs in this category and should not be demonized because he over-reacted. If he does it again, I think we should kill him where he stands  :D but until that happens, let's just give the guy a break.

I am not optimistic as you, it seems this drama and whole console mod thing a while ago bring out the worst of modding community, it's really easy for people to be nice but so many of them are acting like jerks.

It will happen again, maybe not on Gambit77 but it will for sure.

And people wonder why I hate redundant framework mods like AE and SK, and then this happens. Sorry for those suffering the consequences, but I'm actually laughing here.

Frameworks like F4SE, HKXPack and yes, even Sextec add/will add at least new functionality, and are created by slightly more mature teams and developers.

But this AE/SK stuff? Sorry, it's just arbitrary rearranging that which is already there. For all I care, those mods are gone forever. For convenience, a couple of modders could easily cooperate and develop a similar but better and *open* standard. If they really want, they could even make one that doesn't break other mods for nonsensical dependencies, that's how basic the functionality of these early pre-CK "framework" mods is.

Yep I get that, my own SCR was one of those simple framework mods, and bloated it was, and heck I learnt a lot from it, but pre NVSE it was all we had, and in the end it had a fair amount of NVSE smarts added to make it pull assets from a lot of mods without breaking stuff. Maybe a lot of this simple stuff will too, but for the moment it does simply a lot of thing, saves me wondering in game which bench makes what.

But at the moment many modders likle me don't even have GECK as its still in beta and many overseas people can't get the Bethnet launcher to install it. FO4Edit is all we have.
