Privacy on Steam?

This makes me laugh a bit, no to your answer but, BUT if you do make sure you turn off the streaming broadcast or EVERYONE can watch you play lol. also read steams info on that pretty sure they dont like anything lewd on any public stream

To be honest I've never cared what my steam "firends" think about my activities. I upload screenshots of my modded games all the time, and still have public broadcasting enabled. If they don't like what I'm doing with my free time, then they can just unfriend me.

Well, I was just playing today, and a friend writes "careful you dont make your eyes bleed in skyrim there".

 

I instantly go to Steam Settings, open the 'Broadcasting' tab, and what do you know? Friends can watch my games. 

 

Did this friend see me gameplay? Dunno. Technically I should have gotten a request notification. The comment just seems like too much of a coincidence. So do yourselves a service, and be sure to disable broadcasting. Probably go offline for good measure. Avoid a bit of embarrassment. 

If you pressed shift tab it would've told you it was broadcasting, and you could've seen it in the upper right hand corner of your screen.

if it was broadcasting a little stream chat would've popped up and you would've had options in the lower left like 'stop'

If you didn't notice anything, it's likely nothing to worry about. 

Plus, if they're your good friend you shouldn't have to worry about them judging you- just be real with them, they'd understand lol

but yeah, you can also change your settings for that as i'm sure you've found out

Maybe steam doesn't show your mods right now but someday they might change that sort of thing so everyone can see what their friends are using. Facecrook does this kind of changy thing all the time so I expect steam and other services like origin etc to do the same things eventually. What you should have done is stay away from other people you know in RL if they also use steam don't tell them your ID whatever. You could have a separate account for things like that I would think you could have more than one steam account.

Eh, I doubt it.

there'd be no real point functionality wise to simply just show your friends what mods you're using (with the exception of steam workshop)

but most mods are downloaded from third party sites and the files are changed without any real contact with steam itself, so I doubt they'd do anything like that

plus there'd probably always be a privacy setting if for some crazy reason they did add it

It would be linked to mods that were hosted on steam only for sure and you have to keep in mind that we are always going to be victims of data mining from now on because data mining makes money otherwise suckerberg would still be living in his parents basement right now.

My recommendations for a better privacy on Steam :

- put your profiles in "private mode" (meaning: only you can show your profiles, no one else, even your friends)

- disable the "screenshot" function on Steam (and use something like FRAPS for that)

You are right. And yeah, good friend, bit of embarrassment, have a laugh, nothing to worry about. Either way, it wasn't in one of the... "weirder" moments, lol.

No. Mods are not visible to your Steam friends.

Neither DLCs. Only the amount of time played and the achievements are.

 

DLCs are visible to all Steam members, if profile is not set private. You can see them from Games list, as they were actually games in collection.

 

I don't recall what was the case in May. Now they are, which is why I wanted to point this out.

If I buy Skyrim via Steam, and then install mods, will other people with whom I'm friends on steam be able to see any of the mods I have installed? I am friends with relatives and coworkers on Steam and I don't want them to see that I'm installing sexy mods from here- it would be embarassing!

 

Disable broadcast mode, set it to "Invite an allow by you only", otherwise you might end up with funny situations.

I don't think they'll ban you from everything outright, at the most they'll disable broadcasting for you. Steam doesn't care what you do with your games as long as you're not cheating in MP or broadcasting/posting nudity or sexual content.
