Don't tell me I was the only one who noticed! I know practically no one posts in the Oblivion section here but c'mon! Although to be fair I didn't notice until today either... ssssshhhh

As of March 20, 2016, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a 10 year old game. 10 whole years. I was in freakin high school when this game came out, come to think of it. I still remember those first playthroughs of the game way back then. No screenshots sadly. I loved the game and still do. People will levy various criticisms towards the game and yeah, quite a few of them I agree with, but I thoroughly enjoyed the game nonetheless. There was something about Oblivion, something that I'm not too sure how to put into words. Character models aside, it had a pleasing visual aesthetic (that can still hold up today) combined with a certain charm in it's quests and voice acting that in my opinion set it above it's successor, Skyrim (though I don't say this to bash Skyrim, it's a fun game in its own right). It just felt like high fantasy that didn't feel like it took itself too seriously. I hope I'm not alone in my thinking.

More on the quests, who can forget classics like "Whodunnit?" and "The Ultimate Heist"? And the Shivering Isles...

There's so much more to talk about, The Fighter's Guild, The Arena, Glarthir, Super Jumping, shooting the Adoring Fan off of Dive Rock and watching his body repeatedly get battered by rocks and boulders, even the Main quest was great, and the soundtrack...

And of course, the mods. These wonderful things are the reason why I have over 2000 hours into Oblivion (steam and non-steam) instead of 200. I still remember the frustration I felt trying to install the Akatosh mount mod, and the feeling of success as I finally got it to work, and soaring over Bruma. Several years later I discovered adult modding and LPK, and then this wonderful site was born. And, even though I don't post much here anymore, I want to say that LL is undoubtedly one of the best online communities out there. Thanks guys.

Ditto, one of the best I've ever had the pleasure of being a member of.

I still can't explain clearly as to why I love Oblivion much more than Skyrim. Maybe I'm a freaking crunch-lover and hated all the dumbing downs. Maybe i'm just a freak who loves the anime look. Or maybe I love the incredible malleability to be modded.

Or maybe I'm just getting old along with my computer....

Only 5 years before Oblivion becomes a 15-years-old game. Then people in the future would give Oblivion the same look with how we see some games like Diablo 2 now. Wow. But that's fine by me I guess cuz I still enter the battlenet realm time to time.

I know what I prefer playing in Oblivion over playing it in Skyrim: faction-quests.

The ultimate disappointment after my first Thieves Guild playthrough in Skyrim was ..... devastating. And the Dark Brotherhood just did it again (ok, Cicero and killing the emperor were nice, I'll give them that, but those are the only highs in a very very boring questline).

Same goes for the Morrowind-Skyrim-comparisson. And I miss the attributes, as a pen and paper roleplayer I was very sad to see them leave. It would have been so easy to tie them in with the current skillsystem in Skyrim, without changing gameplay dramatically from what we know as vanilla, but they just killed them off.

So yeah: praised be Oblivion and its addons!
