Joomla Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Ok so im thinking of upgrading my gpu. Its currently gtx 760 and it jas trouble running fallout 4 maxed out which really doesnt seem like good thing ass the game isnt all that pretty compared to many it could be optimization but still. So i was thinking of upgrading it to 960/970 but anyone here know how much of an impact that would have? I checked and i have power etc needed for them so thats not a problem.
RitualClarity Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 I have a 970 and so far Fallout 4 (lightly modded with a few textures and an enb mod) runs pretty good and smooth. I haven't added much more in the way of mods to Fallout 4 (haven't played it since I stopped a month or so ago) but feel confident on the ability to mod it further when I do. So long as you have a 1080 p monitor 60hz you should be fine. Not great but fine.
iamknotsatisfied Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Amd radeon r9 390 or 390x Cheaper and more powerful
Joomla Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 Amd radeon r9 390 or 390x Cheaper and more powerful I would rather stick with nvidia as i have in the past
RitualClarity Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Amd radeon r9 390 or 390x Cheaper and more powerful I would rather stick with nvidia as i have in the past AS you stated in your op you were interested in the differences. I have posted some videos and personal experiences but forgot about GPU Boss. Good side to side comparison. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-970-vs-GeForce-GTX-760 Not the best reference but another one to help you choose. That being said if you can swing a 980 it would be much more better. (Ti if possible for future vram needs 5+years)

(Ti if possible for future vram needs 5+years) whuuu gtx 980 ti starts at about 700€ here. that would be about full year of saving up. my current was around 300€ so thats over double it. how about normal 980? it would shave roughly 200€ from the price. if im not aiming to play the totally best looking games maxed out will it be enough? if its really 5 years away the actual need for Ti i think i can save up for upgrade in that time.
Guest endgameaddiction Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 You might as well wait till new Nvidia Pascal cards come out. Then these cards will start dropping, or if you plan to save big, might as well invest in one of those.

I was just commenting in case you could get a more powerful one. Anything be it a 970 or above should do you well for awhile. You might as well wait till new Nvidia Pascal cards come out. Then these cards will start dropping, or if you plan to save big, might as well invest in one of those. Yes the cards are dropping around my location already. I usually try to wait until the next gen comes out to get the previous gen at a better price. I don the very same thing with my motherboard and processor recently. (before the new gen came out) however did break down and get the 970 because my 670 with 2gb vram wasn't cutting my modding needs. It played all the games great at full or ultra on my system but adding textures and such caused some choppiness and I wanted to play Fallout 4. Which again it handles quite well so far (previously attached some videos ) and finally it is a decent price. I andothers I know in RL pretty much agree that the 960 is the starting point for any serious gamer, the 970 is the sweet spot for price / performance and from that point on it cost more and more to get less and less performance improvements. If you can swing a better card 980 than you would be better off but if not you should be fine.
varenne Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 You may want to factor in a new G-Sync monitor into that equation too. I'd suggest reviewing both this: http://www.pcgamer.com/the-freesync-and-g-sync-monitors-available-now/ and this: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync.

However can be gotten later or before if you desire. I like it and would love to get one myself when I can. It can be a god send for gaming as it matches the refresh rate of the gpu instead of the monitor (I believe that is the case ).. Basically lower end cards can have better frames (not framerates) as there is a complete frame created. No tearing or other artifacts created. That being said it is newer technology and the pricing is still dropping fast and haven't hit the "sweet spot" where it will stick. That is the reason I went with getting my GPU upgrade recently instead of the monitor .. but oh do I still drool over the thought of having one.. Well in my case.. three
varenne Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I had to replace my XFX AMD Radeon 7850 HD as the fan is fubared after the last updates of Radeon Control Center. Fan only runs at 90 to 100%, nothing lower. Which sucks as that's been a really good card for 3 years. I replaced with what I now feel is a downgrade to an XFX AMD Radeon R7 360, coupled with a ViewSonic AMD FreeSync enabled monitor. Not at all fond of the physical buttons on the bottom of the panel, to access the setup menus. Seems a bit dated or even retro to me. It replaces an old Toshiba TV/monitor I have had for while but hated, but at least it had a remote to access all of its features. That said I'm still getting used to setting up and relying on Steam and AMD Gaming Evolved for game profiles. Not 100% convinced that any of this new tech was worth the $s I spent on it. Final notes to anyone considering a set of upgrades like this. Do your research well before hand and yes, wait for the prices to drop as they will. If you are using a 3rd party fan controller software like MSI Afterburner and/or RivaTuner Statistics Server, newer cards like mine won't play nice in the sand box with it and I had to disable it.
042lej Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 At the current moment, Radeon GPUs seem to be giving more power for less money. This is coming from an Nvidia fanboy.

Dumbass AMD has once removed the entire Video section from the CC in their latest drivers for my old laptop. Had to uninstall it and revert back to an older driver. The latest is not always the greatest.

bjornk Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 If that's indeed a driver issue, completely uninstalling drivers and reinstalling the old one should fix it. What happens when you use Microsoft's default drivers (after fully removing the AMD drivers with DDU)?
varenne Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Tried that too, including using DDU. I did read quite a bit on it and it has something to do with how AMD changed the GPU bios. Very last step is to flash the GPU bios. If that doesn't work my guess it is the fan is somehow faulty (doubtful since I can turn it on and control it from 90% to 100%, but nothing lower.) but for now it'll sit in it's box till I get motivated to work on it again.
