Hello boys and girls. This control dilemma with the keyboard really bugged me so I have been poking around for a solution.

The trouble with the inbuilt key mapping system seems to be that even if you remap the Tab button one of the cancel commands in the control commands is unaffected. I couldn't even fix it with AutoHotKey.

But when I found this file http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/6000/? it was only a matter of remapping to the original controls but changing the cancel command that was hard wired in the system. I changed the key to Q and Esc instead of Tab. I will attach my CustomControlMap.txt hear so u can try it. Use, change, alter it after your own liking. This change affects terminals and some ingame menus such as trading menu. Intead of using Tab u now use Q or Esc.

Requirement: F4SE

Installation: Put the CustomControlMap.txt in your Data/F4SE folder (if you have non, create it)

Start up the game and change your Pipboy key to anything else than Tab (I use Mouse5)

When you play the Lusty Lizard games use Tab to show the yellow select box, you can move it with w,s,a,d. select with e. To exit the game use Q.

Disclaimer: I have not seen any ramifications of this change but i will not take responsibility if anything gets broken.

EDIT I found a major error in the control mapping! pulling the file until I sort it out!

EDIT 2: Had a problem with the quickmenu controls but now it seems to work again. sorry for the inconvenience!

EDIT 3: Found another bug. using my previous version got you stuck in some working stations. In this last version using Esc lets you go back.

Using mods to remap the keys is a nightmare, apparently a few of the mods I have seen involve changing the movement keys to ESDF instead of the traditional WASD. Technically there are instructions to change the keys, but they involve knowing what coding MS uses to make Windows recognise you hitting the E key which is apparently '0x45'. Remapping 100+ keys is not what I'd call User Friendly, but I suppose it's a start.

Bethesda make fallout 4 for the console, is user friendly for people playing with a controler. i cannot do nothing for that. just pick a controller or go to the shop for buying some stuff.(the shop in the game! around the fens)

Yes I agree the solution is not ideal but its not that complicated either, you can easily do this with whatever keyboard setup you want, the only thing you need to change is one parameter and you can do that in wordpad.

To start: Fire up Fallout 4 and change your control setup to your liking. Save your changes and exit the game.

Now go to your Fallout 4 games folder, there you should find a txt file named CustomControlMap.txt, copy the file and paste it inside ..\Fallout 4\Data\F4SE.

Now open the newly pasted file with wordpad (for easier overlook, change the orientation in print preview)

Find the line Cancel beneath QuickRadio and Accept (see Attached Thumbnail). This is the line that is hardwired in the system no matter what you map the Pipboy key to. This line also serves as the back button in transfer windows, crafting stations and in terminals. The first column after cancel should read 0x09 witch is the Tab button. This is the parameter we need to change to get the Lusty Lizard games to work. You can assign multiple buttons to one line by using a comma ex. 0x51,0x1B. And after some trial and error I found out that for safety reasons you should at least assign Esc as one of the buttons otherwise you might get stuck in some crafting stations.

In my example i used Q (0x51) and Esc (0x1B)  see attached thumbnail. To find out the virtual-key codes you want look at this page https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd375731%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

When you are done with your changes save the file and fire up the game.

P.s. The CustomControlMap.txt I attached in my previous post is WASD but with this tutorial you can get it to work with any setup.

Nice mod!

What about normal control buttons of game like standart holo-games of Fallout 4? I dont understand you and Greecoor - how remapping buttons?

the holotape game for fallout 4 are make for a console controls type, not for a computer. if you want to play with a keyboard, you need to remap the key. The lusty lizard game are made for the pc(mouse).  you need to Use a controler(xbox one or ps4) forthe pip-boy dont use the mouse in this holotape game(is the problem).

for the remap, you need a txt files postet by greecoor

Does this mod actually adds interactive apps for the pipboy? How did you do this?

swf format, is pretty easy but you need a good app. most of the thing you will try, just make crash the game. enjoy it! nine holotape porn game for you!

Pardon the Noob Question, but isn't F4SE required for this to work and shouldn't it go in the DATA/F4SE/Plugins file?
