Kendo 2 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I'm not vocal about it at all. Go back and read my posts in this thread. I openly admit I've only played Sims4 and I'm not bashing Sims3 anywhere. IF Sims3 hadn't crap out on me (fresh install and no mods and I get a CTD within 20 minutes of play...I didn't even get to play) then I'd probably be modding for it. Things didn't work out that way.
Wicked Loveth Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Maybe vocal was the wrong word. I toyed over "adamantly/vehemently opposed" but that's neither here nor there lol. I was referring to "I'm modding TS4 now so get over your hate"... I probably should have quoted that post in my #21. I can't tell you why TS3 would crash, maybe it was your computer? I have no idea -- it just seems unlikely that it would crash on a clean install especially if it was an official version of the game. I'm running XP and I've never had it crash to desktop on a clean install with no mods. NEVER. Anyway, I just looked at the minimum requirements vs recommended requirements for TS4 and... cosmetically it looks like it requires more but that's probably for the graphics that oddly resemble TS2. {sigh} Let me explain before the salt flows free. In terms of TS2 vs TS3 -- yes TS2 had more sculpted faces and bodies -- without custom skins but the same can be said about TS3 with custom skins. The graphics were on the low side but I'm not one to throw money at something just for better graphics (don't even get me started on PS3 vs PS4). TS2 = loading screens, TS3 does not. That right there pretty much sells TS3. And now TS4 has loading screens? Can you even patch those out? There's more, obviously (but keep in mind I'm not specifically referring to mods), but after a while the arguments start to sound like a broken record which is why I prefaced my very first post in this thread with "it all depends on your preference". I kind of wish you would try to play TS3 but if you can't handle one crash then I guess my wish is lost in the stardust. I said before that TS4 looks exactly like TS2 with better background graphics. I can't tell which content is for TS2 or TS4 if I'm looking for something on Google. Honestly, I'll scroll through pics and think "oh that's probably TS2..." but no it's for TS4 or vice versa.
Kendo 2 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Elf Prince and I are buddies. 'get over your hate' is me messing with him.
ToBeContinued Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Based on the well, base game alone, Sims 3 and Sims 4. No mods, expansions, outside extra (insert word(s) here). I'd honestly have to say both are on even terms. Each has its strengths and weaknesses, one exceeds in one area while the other not so much. I know full well of how several people bash/hate EA and or Sims 4. Uh hum, hum clearing throat.......Dar.......cough.......en.........hack.......ing D..........emi.........snort......se, excuse me. I personally enjoy both 3 and 4, I find neither to "Suck". They are both "Gems". And you people get it all wrong, basing a games greatness or downfall upon outside content like mods and such, even expansions, is not what makes or breaks a game. Its the base game, gameplay itself, graphics, sound, and depending on what genre its from several other in game factors. Would an NFL game be that much better if some modder added a ficticiuos team? Does a game(take your pick), that has a nude mod(no sex) so much better? No to both. So Sims 2, 3, and 4, Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and Oblivion, Diablo 3, Pillars of Eternity, Wastelnad 2, hell even as far back as the original Command and Conquer, and so on are great games on their own legs. So yes, which both Sims 3 and 4 do, not all areas, but again no game does.
XJ347 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I played both. I actually like both games but I find Sims 4 better... Sims 4 game play flows better. Sure there are loading screens, but they are short loading screens. When I load sims 3 I can wait 10 minutes at times, and I still can get lag at times when I try to speed up the clock. Totally worth losing the open world. With time, expansions will fix the holes in the game just like sims 3 had when it came out. When sex mods come out for Sims 4 I will probably retire sims 3, though I will miss kinky world. I know many disagree with me but I don't mind being in the minority.
heat2008 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 As of right now, Sims 3 is a better game. It has far more developer content (expansions and stuff) as well as tons more community created content. It's also open world which makes the game feel more complete. I can't act like I don't miss the CAS object customization from Sims 3 tho. That said, Sims 4 is a good game. Once you get used to the game not being open world, which does take some time, the game becomes much pore playable. Lack of an open world doesn't really inhibit the game much as people still do their thing around town, now the town is just divided into sections but the game and sims still play/act the same way and the player can do the same types of things. Give the game some time to accumulate more content and it'll eventually overtake Sims 3 in popularity, especially if later expansions add open world back into the game. Even if it doesn't, with new features and content, the game will move along fine.Would I buy it now? No, but downloads are free if you know where to look. Play it, see how you like it and if a time comes where you feel it's good enough to buy, wait until it's on sale and purchase a retail copy. It's honestly not worth buying right now, but it is still enjoyable to play. When the supernatural expansion, or something similar, comes around they'll have my money too. Until then, I be a pirate. On an unrelated side note. FO4 isn't that bad, although it definitely has some problems, they're more than fixable by Bethesda in patches or future DLC. If Bethesda doesn't fix the issues, modders will when the G.E.C.K comes around. But I haven't played the game since I beat it, I haven't even gotten around to testing out CBBE for it. The game just isn't where I want it to be yet, but I'm sure it will be in the future.
