Guest MonsterFish Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I dno if there's a thread like this or anything. I had a look around and couldn't find anything similar, apologies if this breaks any rules or anything (I can't think of a reason why it would). When I was starting out in the art world, it helped me very much just knowing what programs people were using. So I invite you to do the same so a person from the community can choose to follow up on the software should they choose. So, the premise is simple. Post what you do (Texturing, modelling etc.), what programs you use to do it and if you use any external equipment, what equipment you use. You could also put why you use those programs/equipment in the first place. I myself am a pixel aritst and programmer. Graphics Gale I primarily use GraphicsGale. It's a much better version of MSPaint that most pixel artists use for it's better RGB, HSL or HSV UI and the fact that you can zoom in to individual pixels (MSPaint can only go up to 800%). It also provides a few tools that are a pixel artists best friends such as loupe and preview and the fact that the color picker in now right click. The only down side is that it doesn't provide an airbrush . MSPaint As you can expect from any pixel artist, I use MSPaint. But very rarely. G-Gales UI is kind of horrible and it's a terrible mess to load and save. So I'll use MSPaint if I want minute changes like moving the picture around or cropping it. AsePrite AsePrite is another program I'll use. There's no real difference between G-Gale and AsePrite and the UI on AsePrite is fucking awful even when compared to G-Gale, but it does provide some tools that neither G-Gale nor MSPaint does. Most importantly is a really good Jumble tool that doesn't give anti-aliasing that pixel artists loathe. As well as contours and a better airbrush than MSPaint. Photoshop How could I say I don't use PS? Sometimes I just feel like doing something in Photoshop instead of G-Gale, sometimes I need to do photo manipulations so I can trace over it in G-Gale. After Effects I don't use AE often, but its keylighting is far better than Photoshops. Paint.net G-Gale, MSPaint and Aseprite don't support alpha when you save them and I don't feel like going through the long load times of Photoshop, so I use Paint.net to do it for me. Visual Studio I have to, I go to uni for Computer Science.

myuhinny Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Modding and modifying. Paint-net Gimp2 photoshop nifskope clothing converter mesh rigger. First three are for modifying textures 4th one for modifying meshes and stuff 5th one for converting something from one body size to another and last one is for adding bone nodes from one nif into another one. Like adding TBBP to a nif that doesn't have it.
Captain Cobra Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 GIMP Paint.net Nifscope Blender Take a wild guess.
Akzyra Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Photoshop 3dsmax AutoCAD Pen and paper, because it is easiert to scribble than to figure out how do it in PS or something. Or Wacom Tablet if I feel like it. Some Eclipse and Visual Studio as well.
