Hair clips through hat

I found this witch's hat I'd like to wear, but my hair goes right through it.  It doesn't matter what hair mod I use so I figure the problem is with the hat not my hair.

Is there some setting that I can modify with nifscope somewhere to prevent hair from clipping through?

Thanks.

Can you take a picture of the clipping? Maybe you can use bodyslide to expand the hat mesh.

The hat is already pretty big,..

Just use bodyslide (outfit studio) and expand the mesh. Maybe it will work, lol.

off topic but that's a boss looking character and i know only two ways to fix it one would tell the mod author about it and the 2nd is getting a program like body slider install the mesh and textures ect to it. than remove the clipping yourself to find out which mod it comes from you can do this with TES5 edit and look though all the armor OR have skyui and drop the hat than open console commands [ ~ ] and click on it. (don't forget to pick it up when you're done) it would look like this and the ID and mod name would be on the left. over here

Looked at your screenshot.  Two possible problems;

(1) the player-made hair you're using doesn't have the right values in nifscope and the CK to allow for headwear.

(2) the player-made hat has the wrong or missing Biped Model slots in the CK, and/or the partions in nifscope are wrong.

Unless you're a modder and understand what I'm talking about your best bet is a player utility like BodySlide.  Or you could learn to mod.  :P

There are no nifskope partitions, no dismemberment at all.  Unfortunately, the I haven't found a tutorial yet on ADDING this information, they are all about modifying existing partitions.

I've tried adding Body parts hair or longhair in tes5edit, and adding 31 made my hair disappear completely, longhair did nothing.

There is one more idea. If the hair you got has valid tri files, you could use Racemenu sculpt mode to deflate/smooth the hair a little to fit inside the hat.

Then it is probably the hairline mesh not being a real hairline, but a copy of the hair mesh itself with different Alpha values and flags.  Try using a vanilla hair with the hat and see what happens.  If it still clips then you know it is the hat.

Bandaid fix for something like that is open the hat mesh in nifskope, scale it up a bit to make it bigger and then move the hat on the the z axis a little bit. Boot the game and see if you're satisfied with the result, if not, tweak the mesh some more in nifskope. If a hat or helm doesn't replace the hair which all of the vanilla hats and helmets do you get clipping like that. It's either clipping through the hair or a bald head.

@Kendo Yes, it is the hat.  It doesn't matter what hair I use it clips except the bald and shadow head

Ok,

I've tried modifying the had in Outfit Studio but it keeps telling me one of the vertices has no weight. There is also the problem that I can't seem to load a sample head to check as I modify the mesh.  I've tried loading a reference of the hair, but the hair appears maybe 8 feet above the hat, which is no good as a reference.  The studio seems totally focused on body mods, and I'm having trouble finding any documentation on exceptions for modifying hats.

So far disabling X mirror, Auto normals, and smooth seam normals first thing seems to be a good idea.  I don't know what to do with the unweighted vertices.  I've tried inverting mask but there isn't anything visible unmasked anywhere to weight.

The unweighted verts were jacked when the mesh was exported from whatever modelling program was used to make it.  There is no fixing that outside of importing back into blender or 3dmax and reweighting it.

And I don't use Outfit Studio so I'm no help there.
