sophiextime Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Help please! I have been playing Skyrim via SKSE for a few days. i did have a lot of mods and prone to some CTD's. But i always used LOOT and TES5Edit and had no errors or warnings. Today i tried to load a game. it CTD's as it about loaded and the load game starts. So i tried a previous Load game. same thing. So i tried a New game. same thing. I then disabled all my plugins except the esm for Skyrim, Dragonborn, Dawngaurd and Hearthfire. still no joy. So i tried running a new game via the Steam play button, not SKSE. nothing. Now it wont even try to load any game. so i deleted every save i had in the game so the only thing i could do was play a new game, either through skse or steam. Nothing i am using the 1.7.3 skse. is it that?! why will my PC not play Skyrim at all? Can anyone Please please help shed some light on this please as up to this morning my game was running fine
Guest Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 You are pretty close to a fresh install of Skyrim. Sometimes it is required. You already disabled all your mods, and you say you don't have too many. So just re-install it, then install just SKSE, and try.
sophiextime Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 i have deactivated all my mod plugins in NMM in the MOD tab. i do have a lot of MODS but they all work fine before! do i install the newest 1.7.3 skse or the 1.7.2? when i did 1.7.2 i always had a error message at the beginning of a game saying i need 1.7.3 for mods to work also do i just uninstall skyrim via steam and leave my NMM alone. i dont wanna have to delete all my mods and Nexus so basically i just need to uninstall skyrim from my PC via Steam, re-install it and also delete skse and re-isntall that?
Tepi Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Faster way to do it http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Make_Skyrim_Vanilla_Again And as you are using NMM, mods will be gone. Would be a different case with Mod Organizer. If you need a guide for MO, gopher has great videos for it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4ZQpzf_iAE&list=PLE7DlYarj-DcLS9LyjEqOJwFUQIIQewcK
bjornk Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 The first thing to check, can you run any other game on your computer? Are you absolutely sure that this is a Skyrim specific issue? Are you sure that your Skyrim installation folder is in the vanilla state? Have you also checked game log files for a clue, including SKSE logs? do i install the newest 1.7.3 skse or the 1.7.2? when i did 1.7.2 i always had a error message at the beginning of a game saying i need 1.7.3 for mods to work You must have a mod that specifically requires 1.7.3. I'm running 1.7.2 and don't get such error messages. Do NOT uninstall Skyrim! You'll have to download everything again, which is pointless. Follow the guide in Tepi's post above. I'm pretty sure you have a mod problem, maybe an SKSE plugin behaving badly due to some corrupt file.
GSBmodders Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 edit from the other post edits it is as said above, looking like an skse issue but if that fails read below if you installed any so called fix, either downloaded from nexus or elsewhere go back and read the comments for that supposed fix. many "fixes" cause far more harm then good. if this is the case typically there are those who will call the uploader on there crap and try to explain why it's no good loot is a tool and as a tool it is not able to offer the fine tweaks needed for a smooth game and it even sometimes suggests a rather idiotic order that can cause trouble. post your load order (i know you said it is all disabled but please post it anyway) check your skeleton, some mod authors think including the outdated skeleton that they use is a spectacular idea check your graphics settings too, make sure that if your pc is set to run on ultra, along side cbbe 4k textures and HD texture packs that your pc can handle it. also skyrim has a max number of mods that you can run be sure that you did not break the cap read over all of your mod requirements be sure that you meet them
mybrainhurts Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 NMM won't lose your mods. Just make sure you deactivate all of them before you start vanillafying your Skyrim installation.
sophiextime Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 does anyone know the Mod limit? i did have a lot but i have seen some peoples lists that far out length mine. i will get a load order list and show. i am wondering if somehow i deleted some important game file without knowing it because i cant understand why skyrim wont run via steam as a vanilla game with all mods deactivated. i cant even run a new game. it loads the menu then instantly CTD's. even via steam play
RitualClarity Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 i am wondering if somehow i deleted some important game file without knowing it because i cant understand why skyrim wont run via steam as a vanilla game with all mods deactivated. i cant even run a new game. it loads the menu then instantly CTD's. even via steam play When Steam won't run the base game most likley something was damaged from the base game. Try re-verify cache option in Steam. Let Steam replace any files it believes is needed then try with the clean game no mods. It should work then.
bjornk Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 does anyone know the Mod limit? You mean the maximum number of ESPs? Should be 254, because otherwise the 255th mod would conflict with non-persistent objects in the game, i.e. the ones that have reference IDs that start with FFxxxxxxx (FF equals to 255 in decimal). i am wondering if somehow i deleted some important game file without knowing it because i cant understand why skyrim wont run via steam as a vanilla game with all mods deactivated. i cant even run a new game. it loads the menu then instantly CTD's. even via steam play First of all use Steam's integrity check on Skyrim files. Then try loading every ESP you have in TES5Edit. If it loads okay (i.e. without any error or warnings), then you have a problem that isn't related to Skyrim files or mod ESPs. You should then check your SKSE files, SKSE plugins, scripts and of course your INI settings (ENB files and settings as well if you have them). Before you try to run the vanilla game, make sure your Skyrim and Skyrim\Data folder are both in vanilla state (i.e. no additional files). Check the log files, I mean really, the first place you should look at are those files. Enable papyrus logging as well in your Skyrim.ini file. The easiest way to find them is this, go to your C: drive (assuming Skyrim and NMM are both installed there) and search for "*.log datemodified:06/08/2015".
sbire Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 what says papyrus? what says the windows eventlog? where's your loadorder? did you have a skeleton installed or do you use a follower with his own skeleton?
text
