Lately i played a bunch of age of empires, i tried to play seriously age of empires 3 for the first time and i really hate the main campaign (not the asian dynasties one) so i pretty much about to drop the game and search for other thing

What historical rts recommend, specifically with a good SINGLE PLAYER gameplay, campaign?

Well, I can't think of too many modern historical RTS games. The historical ones have turned into games like Civ, Total War or Europa Universalis. The historical stuff seems to have gone less RTS and more epic strategy games. In fact, it seems there is less RTS around being released overall, as far as I have been able to tell. I haven't heard of any coming out any time soon that are massive. Maybe some kickstarter ones, dunno.

I personally play Civ 4 caveman2cosmos mod and Civ 5 is better with mods. I'm kinda liking Civ 5 more than Civ 4 now that its been updated and stuff. Rome 2 Total War is a lot better than it was at release. The problem with Rome 2 (and Attila) and the upcoming warhammer total war, is DLC whoring at its finest. Except maybe a bit hypocritical since I support...

Europa Universalis 4 and Crusader Kings 2 are really good, kind of spreadsheetish kind of gameplay though. Out of those two, EU4 is a lot more fun...after trying EU4, and then playing CK2 the map for CK2 is so tiny its hard to adjust lol. But both just depend what you are looking for (CK2 is like playing The Sims, EU4 like sim city...not the same genre, but you may get the point)

Except Eu4 and CK2 do just as much DLC whoring as total war, and everyone hates creative assembly for it, but are completely fine with EU4 and CK2 with it...which I run into the same mind thinking xD

Outside of those though. Its a bunch of MUCH older games. Maybe try Empire Earth 2, I think it has an HD version? Or maybe not, but you can get it on GOG. EE 1 and 2 are both really good, but skip EE 3 that one was lame.

Rise of Nations Extended on Steam may be worth trying, but its only sorta like an RTS. Its been updated to be a bit more modern graphics wise. Still a much older game.

Seems like a slow time for RTS games, especially the historical ones. A lot of historical epic strategy games like Civ/EU etc...but not any new modern historical RTS as far as I've seen.

I might try total war then, all the fucking world say it's a fucking good game XD

What the best to start? or i just pick any of these?

Note: i don't care if the game is old or not i don't have much preference, and also i somewhat retrogamer XD

Medieval 2, Empire Total War, Rome 2 are all good. Rome total war people say is better than Rome 2, but I don't think so. Only good because of mods, but people forgot that.

My experience with Rome 1 without mods

Have heavy cavalry general. Defend city against 10,000 enemy troops on hardest difficulty, with only heavy cavalry general.

Have general route 10,000 enemy troops with few losses

Medieval 2, there is Europa Barbarum II that changes it to a rome total war game and you can spend days and days of gameplay reading the history of each unit, nation and province. The devs put a TON of work into the history of everything. Its in alpha though I think last I looked.

Empire total war is probably my favorite though, its the whole world to conquer :D Rome 2 is a close second though.

If you like the old style map games and not controlling armies in actual battles, then go Medieval 1 or Shogun 1.  They are the oldest games in the TW series.  Simple graphics, simple controls, all very straight forward.  On steam for 10 bucks:  http://store.steampowered.com/app/345260/

Now if you get more into fighting the actual battles, then you might want to look at Medieval 2, Rome 1 or 2, attila and Shogun 2 for the age of the sword.  Medieval 2 has a rediculous number of mods, including a Lord of the Rings mod that is simply off the hook: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?500418-Third-Age-Total-War-3-2-Released

For the age of the gun: Empire and Napoleon are the way to go.

Not Historical in the sense you meant, but still a historic RTS game:  http://wz2100.net

Ever play Total War? If so don't touch Rome 2, Shogun 2, Napoleon, Empires, or Attila. Just saying, those are the 'mistakes' of the series.

Medieval 1, Medieval 2, Shogun 1, Rome 1 are the best. Afterwards there's many technical problems and majority of the game is sold via DLC. Factions are now DLC instead of base game like the first one example Rome 2. Want blood and gore? Well you can see blood stains on soldiers who become 'wounded' for a few bucks in the later installments too, but it doesn't make a difference.

Medieval 2 offers the best for the second games in the series. Steam offers it and the only DLC (kingdoms) for a good price. Play European, United Kingdom, and America (Natives and foreigners) factions.

If Asia is more your thing get Shogun 1, it's more in depth with interactions than Shogun 2.

If pew pew pew is your thing go and get (and regret) Empire or Napoleon.

They seem to be working a warhammer thing or something too if you enjoy that.

Yeah the first Rome is better if he doesn't care about dated graphics and I recommend the mod total realism but maybe try vanilla first. Then go for MTW2 then you could Napoleonic but it's not very good.

If you like asian empire, you can try Romance of The Three Kingdom/ Sangokushi in Japan. IMO, it has beautiful artwork and story/event.

or Nobunaga Ambition/Nobunaga no Yabou (the only problem for this one is the language).

Personal advice: ROTK 12 is easy but too simple for ROTK fans. Better pick 10 or 11.

I own pretty much all total war games, so if you want a simple, easy and challenging total war game then get Shogun 2.

When you finish playing that get Rome 2 or better yet Attila (superior) both are very good games.

If you feel like you dont need a simple rts to start with get Attila. It is very good imo.
