Yuni Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I stumbled on this when letting my friend watch me play the game after disabling the dirty mods for a while. It's a simple thing you can do to greatly increase your immersion in the game -- though you'll feel silly at first. Just read your lines out loud. When you select a dialogue choice, say it out loud like you're really talking to the character. Don't mumble, just say it. It feels MUCH more like an actual conversation, because they will be replying to what you said if you read your lines right. I've found this greatly helps me feel 'in the game' on any given file. If you don't skip their reply, it will feel more like you are there. Just thought I'd share. <3
Blackness blackness is... Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 never thought of that. Thanks Yuni. i better start practicing my submissive tone. so that my master can see how obedient i am.
Shadowscale Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 I love doing that especially with the sarcastic lines. My boyfriend always gives me a wierd look though since he just can't get into Skyrim since he says its "too open. I just feel lost without a clear direction."
Martine Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Good idea. I've caught myself talking to my game a lot. I've responded to the guards admiration after I killed a dragon. "well I'm the dovahkiin that's why". I'll say "there you are" when my horse comes to my whistle. Or I'll said to my horse, well thanks for nothing, after he went awol and failed to respond to my whistle and I almost froze to death in a snow storm. (He carries the wood and camping gear). Or "where the heck where you" or "a lot of help you were" to my follower when he comes too late to help me with a fight. I'll curse Meeko after I trip over him for the millionth time. I even blurted out to Erik the slayer, "I'll be back for you Erik!" to his retreating back, after a companion quest unceremoniously dismissed him. Then I went to get him back in Rorikstead right after the quest. When I couldn't find him, I started worrying, so teleported to him. I ended up in the river, almost drowned and got drenched, so had to build a fire to avoid freezing to death. Thanks Erik. I should add that I selected the "childhood friend" scenario from Alternate Life, so I am a little invested in Erik. Now I'm exploring other followers and feel vaguely guilty lol That's the whole fun of this game, that it's very immersive if you allow it. But I like your idea and am going to try it What's other things has this game caused you to blurt out (beside curses after experiencing a CTD or Freeze).
Nikki08 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Playing now and I figured I'd try out your advice and it honestly does work. I actually feel like I'm interacting with the character, instead of just running through dialogue.
carnifex Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 While I don't read lines out loud, I do imagine how they would sound in my character's voice. This is a good middle ground if you're living with other people and are afraid of looking like a weirdo
Darkov Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 what about a mod that makes the dragon born actually say things?
carnifex Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 what about a mod that makes the dragon born actually say things? No, that would actually achieve the opposite. The idea is to get you invested in the game, to consider the personality of the character you're playing and to make the very limited dialogue choices truly yours (or your character's, depending how you look at it). Dialogues in Skyrim are pretty rudimentary and often bland, but even the most basic line like "I'll help you" can be read in an infinite number of ways depending on the speaker's voice, current mood and the context of the situation as perceived by the speaker art the moment. All this means fuck all when the dialogs are already voiced, because then the only thing you can do is take the back seat and listen to someone talking through the mouth of your toon.
vram1974 Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 what about a mod that makes the dragon born actually say things? One exists but it's basically just like what your followers say during battle and not during dialogue with NPCs.

StayFrosty Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 While I don't read lines out loud, I do imagine how they would sound in my character's voice. This is a good middle ground if you're living with other people and are afraid of looking like a weirdo I do that also ...considering also the fact that I am a woman playing a big burly man who I imagine to have a voice somewhat like Jason Momoa's, I don't think my girly voice would work that well for him and my immersion
yarickst Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 So you decided that this was a good place for advice..?
Mud Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I think that'd actually take away my immersion, honestly. I always feel kind of stupid talking to my monitor, even if it's over voice chat to actual people. Don't know why I get that reaction here and not from phones.
