Gorebain Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 i bought a digital copy of oblivion GOTY deluxe and i cant use OBSE with it because it tells me that my game version is unrecognised and after googling it obtaining a copy of the oblivion.exe that works with OBSE seems to be the only cure atm so if someone would upload theirs i'd apreciate it

Vaelorian Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 OBSE should work with the disc version out of the box. For the Steam version, fejeena's link should be sufficient to make it play nice. If your digital store uses a different kind of DRM, or has somehow modified the .exe I can only suggest you contact them for a refund and purchase the game elsewhere, as the altered exe may have other changes that cause mods to not play nice. Regardless of your choice, posting the Oblivion.exe file is effectively piracy, and is a direct violation of the ToS of this site.
Gorebain Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 did say post? i said upload, even if its just a link to a back up file uploaded to lets say dropbox? and uploading everything needed to play the game is piracy not one or two files requested to fix a design flaw in the game. if i wanted to do this illegaly i would of just downloaded a torrent. anyway its all done and dusted now so feel free to delete or lock this threat Thank you fejeena<3

Vaelorian Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 did say post? i said upload Which are effectively the same thing, unless you suggest that one should upload it to a random site under a random name and not provide you with a link, in which case I have to question such an action's usefulness to you. The exe IS the game. Uploading "just" it is piracy. Uploading every single other file is worthless, because we have better, more optimized versions of them available.

The old way was only disk or Steam.. That is the way most understand that game was distributed. I am glad you got it sorted. As a suggestion going forward try to get any game you will be modding (like Fallout etc) from Steam etc. It will make your life easier and get you into the game quicker instead of working on it for two weeks and having to search for an .exe that really shouldn't have been needed in the first place if the company didn't decide to fool around with the game code. . Just a suggestion and advise because getting exes to patch a legitimate game can be very risky as they can contain other undesired code as well..

In any case it appears that their exe (and other game code) might be sufficiently different that mods and tools might not work with it as it should or the way it is expected to. At least according to the OP this appears to be the case. Glad I could help KingKong. Hopefully some others might see this thread and at least check to see if a disk version which is still being sold or Steam version meets or is cheaper than DLGamer sites prices are. Currently DLGamer is charging 16.93 for The GOTY Oblivion Steam is charging only 14.99 for Oblivion GOTY. which is less than DLgamer and is what most of the modding community is used to modding and likely would be more compatible for the most part with tools and mods. http://www.dlgamer.us/
