PSA: One Tweak and SKSE 1.7.3 Beta Full screen FPS Jump

Recommended Posts

So updated the SKSE to 1.7.3 beta http://skse.silverlock.org/and the new version of One Tweak http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40706/?

Had some issues with One Tweak changing my resolution, so I'd edit the ini file a bit so it'll run 1440p on my 4K monitor (for FPS reasons).

The default in the One Tweak ini was to run in borderless windowed mode.  So I decided to try changing the ini to run full screen.

I went from having 35-40 fps outdoors in Skyrim to a 55-60fps after going to full screen.

Had been running borderless windowed mode for so long I'd never tried full screen for a LONG while.

If you have FPS problems and have One Tweak + SKSE 1.7.3 beta try updating the One Tweak ini to run in full screen instead of borderless.  Made a big difference at least for me.

I'll have to try this out...I've been using FakeFullScreen for quite some time now. I'd seen this on the Nexus previously, but wasn't sure if it would do anything differently then what I've already got running. I tend to rely on personal accounts of people using mods on smaller sites, rather than the flood of 'yay, ur mod is kool' type comments elsewhere.

Thanks!

FYI for other coders out there:

I got a fair fps/lag improvement by optimizing project settings and compiling SKSE myself with intel c++. Some of the code it uses often is helped a lot by the intel compiler multithreading the loops in the code.

This is all well and good, but doesn't Skyrim still shit the bed if you tab out while running fullscreen? This is the reason I run BW mode.

Edit: Just downloaded the update and benchmarked 12 CPU and GPU demanding locations varying from Whiterun Town Centre to Forested Wilderness.

Fullscreen was consistently only 1-2 fps better than borderless window mode, exactly as before with 1.7.2 and other SKSE versions. No significant improvements for fullscreen to warrant switching from BW mode since I play the game quite a lot and am always tabbing out for various things.

System: i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz|2x R290x 4GB|16GB RAM

Edit 2: Skyrim still throws a fit if you try and tab back and forth when the game is in fullscreen mode. I'd rather run BW mode, lose the one or 2 frames and keep the seamless switching.
