AyaKurasaka Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I was wondering if I should use a custom race mod for a Youth type character (apparent age 17-21) I don't like any of the child races really and I feel the proportions of the default races and even some of the custom races just don't look right once I'm done editing the visuals. Also I used a lot of combinations of Race menus but what is the best for UNP ? which is probably what I will use in the long run. Note yes I did say 17-21 because that is my mental visual representation of the "look" I am wanting based upon my anime lifestyle and my personal preferences. In no way am I asking for explicit minor esk characters. Examples of the "look" I am trying to achieve similar results. Example 1 My perception of "17-18" Example 2 my perception of 18-20 Example 3 my perception of 20-21 Edit: Added more information / clarification.
Mister X Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 1) Hopefully you've meant 18-21, not 17-21. 2) I'm not sure if a custom race will help you, normally they sooner or later produce more problems than the result for the look would be worth, imho. (I'm absolutely not sure if that was a proper english sentence btw ) 3) If you want to use UNP, maybe try Calientes BodySlide and use UUNP, then I can recommend either the "Girl Next Door" or "UNP Skinny" preset as base to get a teen-ish body shape. Or just build your own one For the face, maybe try Adorable Face, this gives a younger appearance. 4) For the actual creation, use the latest RaceMenu, the additional resources as brows and hairstyles depend on your taste. Maybe the "Smooth" option of SG Females (Optional download section) could fit, imho "smooth" sounds like it could fit for a teen body.

No I mean't 17-21 because well This > Logic Also that face is cute but WAY too child like that to me is like 11-13 age appearance. 2. Okay I'll use some form of UNP like normal. thanks. 3. So Race menu > ECE or anything else?
Mister X Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 1) Well ok then 2) What I've meant is, that Bodyslide already provides a UNP body, it's called "Unified UNP", or short UUNP. It can be tweaked in its shape just like CBBE, but it's a variant of UNP body. You still need custom textures and a skeleton, though, but normally this will be installed either way 3) You should use ONLY RaceMenu, ECE is no longer WIP. Racemenu is anything you need, just use the latest version (atm it's 3.2.1 iirc)

crudo Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Not trying to stir the RM/ECE pot but I would recommend ECE, Fair Skin and Adorable Face. There was an update to ECE in January, 2015 and it's very nice. A few extra face shaping sliders along with the usual neat and efficient interface. Here is one I made... not sure if it fits your style but it's just an example.
nutluck Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 What problem did you have with body slider? I ask because at first I could not get it to work and I finally figured it out. I would also recommend fair skin for a skin texture, it is fair, light and smooth and to me looks younger than other skin textures. Your opinion might differ though. I do agree unp skinny is likely the best for a young body, using it with body slider I think works best.
Youwish1 Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Since you want an anime look use ECE it is fine and better than racemenu in my opinion. The vertex is fantastic and you can do a lot with YgNord!. Even though racemenu has more options than ECE the vertex sucks. A good idea would be to use ECE to get your desired look then export the head and install racemenu, and THEN use all of racemenus features also make sure you go and download Ran's enhanced character edit extender and Enhanced character edit more body sliders as this basically gives ECE most of racemenus most important features. If you use a skeleton overwrite ECE with it, but install the ECE extender mods after it otherwise they won't work. Remember which realistic rag dolls you downloaded to because you need to select it in the ECE installer.
crudo Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Even though racemenu has more options than ECE I've used both and while the above statement is true the problem with RM sliders is that they repeat giving the illusion of more options but in the end you actually get more features with ECE and a much less confusing interface. I had forgotten, they also added eye shape sliders for curve or arc of both lids in the January update. There were probably additional tweaks and sliders but I can't think of them off the top of my head. One of the features I really like with ECE is controlling the shoulder width and leg length. Don't know if it's in the current RM but it will really help if you don't use bodyslide. For instance if you are creating a younger woman you can make her shoulders narrower, very effective. The only negative I have with ECE are overlays. If you want freckles or something similar there is no way to apply them. Unless someone creates a texture for SlaveTats. Both are nice mods. Good luck.
Youwish1 Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Actually fair skin comes with freckles and yeah racemenus sliders bugs out your characters face if you use them past what ECE does, so In all honesty ECE with 2x sliders is pretty much perfect without making your face look like it's got an alien trying to burst out . Rans ECE extender also adds more eye sliders.

It is, with the XPMS Extended plugin.
Spyder Arachnid Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Don't want to turn this into a RM vs ECE debacle, but RaceMenu can easily make the same faces you make in ECE. I mean heck, you can even import your head from ECE to RaceMenu if that makes you feel better, and then use the Overlay system. And as for those extra body sliders, if you're using XPMSE (which you should be using any ways), it comes with the RaceMenu plugin for all that and more. RaceMenu has a vertex editor which is a bit more complex than the one in ECE, but it's the same thing still. I'd still recommend RaceMenu over ECE though. It's more stable and you don't get that weird vanilla face glitch from time to time that ECE does. These are all young characters I have created using RaceMenu. Just to show that you don't need ECE to make a young character (anime or regular): These were made using SkyKids by the way, well except for the second and fourth picture. Those were a regular Nord shruken down to teen size. As for body type, I'd say check out UUNP as well. I myself haven't used it, but it's basically bodyslide for UNP and you can customize your body to the way you want. Otherwise go with UNP Skinny or UNP Petite as I think that is the one most of the posters here use these days. Or if you want something in CBBE, check the RCotS thread. Guk has made a bodyslide preset that is more "child like" for CBBE that works with Bodyslide as well. It's actually really neat and could work for that young teen look you want.
Effie Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I guess either ECE or racemenu will do. You can do it with vanilla race easily with either. It all comes down to which skin textures you use. I'd say go for something like fair skin or perhaps sg textures for a younger looking one. Adorable face as well if you wanna go for really young ^^

But i do agree with editing your face with ECE first as i said above since you use the "export head" feature and since RM doesn't have those awesome sauce eye sliders that ECE does i always recommend using that first for facial edits!.
gvman3670 Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 I've done exactly that using the Monli race that comes with SkyKids. I just manually replaced the skeleton, body (Top Model) and textures (FSC Univision). It made a very convincing teen character.
